Album Spotlight: Ne-Yo - Because Of You

Image
It was only a year after Ne-Yo's debut album; "In My Own Words" when he hit us with his sophomore album; "Because Of You". The title track served as the album's first single and only continued to streak of hit singles Ne-Yo was enjoying. For the album's second single; "Do You"; Ne-Yo slowed it down and the song was easily another hit. The remix featured Mary J. Blige. Basically on "Because Of You"; the album picks up where his debut left off. The music and melodies are intact and similar to the first album. Jay-Z and Jennifer Hudson make guest appearances. Some of my favorite songs include "Do You", the Prince esque; "Sex With My Ex" and "Ain't Thinkin' About You". Shortly after its release; "Because Of You" was certified platinum. ---------------- Now playing: Trina feat. Pitbull - Stop Traffic via FoxyTunes

Lil' Boosie Pleads Not Guilty To Murder!

Maintaining his innocence; Lil' Boosie's lawyer spoke out by simply stating that his client was "absolutely not guilty". The story goes Lil' Boosie hired a man to kill another man. The victim was shot dead in his home. Nicki Minaj has been confirmed to appear on the new Kanye West album; "Good Ass Job" in stores September 14. BET Vice President; Stephen G. Hill heard four tracks off the new album and gushed about the collaboration with Nicki. Kanye West recently appeared at the 2010 BET Awards where he performed his new single; "Power". There has a been a lot of talk about Lauryn Hill returning to the music scene. Recently Lauryn gave somewhat of an exclusive interview. She talked about not putting out music which she accounted for not having the proper support system. She also lamented at the fact that she has five children. She does feel however that it is time to get back out there and she is "getting excited again" about musi

Lloyd Speaks Out On Chris Brown's BET Performance!

Everyone is still talking about Chris Brown's performance at the BET Awards. This is where Lloyd comes in. The singer claims he is responsible for telling Chris to cry and show his emotion. There is already a lot of validity concerning Chris' performance. Some people feel like it was real emotion while others think it was a publicity ploy. I think it was real emotion. Shortly after the story broke out about Lloyd's comments; the singer has retracted his statements. He did speak about how he spoke to Chris briefly awhile back. He did encourage Chris to be real and show his emotion. I just think his words got taken out of context. Meanwhile Jermaine Jackson has also spoken out. He feels Chris Brown deserves a "second chance" and he feels that his emotions were indeed real. Soulja Boy may have just gotten the last laugh! It was reported that Soulja Boy deleted his twitter account when #ifsouljaboywerearapper became a Trending Topic. Apparently the rapper did not dele

Monica Mad At Vivica A. Fox!

Since there was an overwhelming amount of news on Monica today, this whole post features news about her. And if you haven't heard Monica was upset with actress Vivica A. Fox for a moment's time. Though the situation has now boiled over, Monica had took to her twitter account earlier. Later Monica reached out to Vivica and they were able to talk the situation out like ladies. Monica had been frustrated feeling attacked by Vivica during the BET's "Who Wore That" show. Vivica served as one of the guest judges and made some unflattering comments about Monica's outfit(the one during her "Everything To Me" performance). I mean everyone was talking about the outfit anyway so Vivica certainly wasn't the only one! In other Monica news there is a possibility that we might hear a Rick Ross collaboration in the near future. The singer claims the two go way back and the charge for working with Ross would be free stating that he is "family". If this

Music Feed: There's Something About Keri Hilson

Being a bankable singer and songwriter definitely has its advantages. Just ask Keri Hilson. She has proven to be quite the perfect companion to a host of rappers. Her marketable image has made her one of the most sought after guest vocalists around right now. In addition she is recording the follow-up album to her gold debut; "In A Perfect World...". Familiarize yourself with some of Keri Hilson's finest moments as a guest vocalist. Hey Now(Mean Muggin), Xzibit feat. Keri Hilson This particular song marked Keri Hilson's first official credit as a guest vocalist. This was just the beginning of the many that were to come. Help, Lloyd Banks feat. Keri Hilson Keri Hilson supplied Lloyd Banks with a little help as "Help" peaked at #77 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts. It is a personal favorite of mine nonetheless. The Way I Are, Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson This was a much bigger hit for Keri as this peaked at #3 on the Pop charts! Good Things, Rich Boy feat. Polow D

Producer Spotlight: Kanye West

Image
When Kanye West burst on to the scene with his solo album; "The College Dropout", he was pretty much already a big deal. He was an in house producer to Roc-A-Fella Records. Eventually through his productions for Jay-Z, he spread his wings and would create his own dynasty. Kanye West would eventually begin producing for some of the biggest Hip-Hop artists around. It wasn't long before R&B artists started requesting his services as well. Controversial and outspoken, Kanye's productions remain a treat to hear. Drum loops, auto-tune, and soul samples are what Kanye West productions are made of. Check out this extensive resume from one of Hip-Hop's brightest stars and producers! I Want You, Janet My Life, Foxy Brown Dreams, The Game Find Your Love, Drake Stay The Night, Mariah Carey B R Right, Trina feat. Ludacris I Changed My Mind, Keyshia Cole Knock Knock, Monica You Don't Know My Name, Alicia Keys Overnight Celebrity, Twista Talk About Our Love, Brandy feat.

Drake Sued By Playboy!

Drake's #1 hit; "Best I Ever Heard" is the subject of a civil suit. According to documents; Drake, Cash Money, and Universal Records are being sued for illegal use of a sample titled; "Fallin' In Love" which is owned by Playboy. As we all know Drake recently hit #1 with his debut album; "Thank Me Later" and won for Best Male Rap Artist and Best Group with Young Money at last night's BET Awards. Method Man plead guilty to tax evasion charges. The rapper was arrested back in October. He recently wrote a check to cover the rest of the sums. You can't avoid those taxes cause they eventually come and get you. Kanye West has chosen September 14 for the release of his new album; "Good Ass Job". The album features the first single; "Power". Last night Kanye performed the lead single at the BET Awards. ---------------- Now playing: Drake - Find Your Love via FoxyTunes

Toni Braxton - Woman Video

Toni Braxton is more than a woman! It was even the title of her 2002 album. Here, Toni sings about the importance of being a woman and not taking that said woman in your life for granted. I really despise the hair cut Toni is rocking. I've been seeing that dress she's wearing on Trina and Jennifer from VH1's "Basketball Wives". Who will we see in it next? ---------------- Now playing: Amerie - The Flowers via FoxyTunes

Music Feed: 2010 BET Awards Recap

So last night BET aired their 2010 BET Awards and it was the first time the show aired on Sunday. Normally the telecast would air on Tuesdays night. The telecast overall was pretty decent to me. There was one huge surprise in an award show that is usually full of surprises. The show opened up with the controversial Kanye West performing his new single; "Power" atop of a mountain with a backdrop to match the mood. After hearing the song once again; I realized I'm not a big fan of it. The R&B female artist award went to Alicia Keys who was a big winner(Best Collab with Jay-Z for "Empire State Of Mind") that night and performed several times(a medley of her hits including the #1 "Unthinkable(I'm Ready)" and for the Prince tribute. Usher performed his #2 R&B single; "There Goes My Baby" and had a little difficulty voice wise which seemed to be a recurring theme as did Trey Songz when he performed "Yo Side Of The Bed". Spe

Throwback Video: Xscape - Do You Want To

Xscape was one of the many female R&B groups that reigned in the 90s. There were a string of videos including this one that followed group member Tameka "Tiny" Cottle and her pursuit of happiness.

Album Spotlight: TLC - 3D

Image
TLC has brought us many great albums and singles throughout the years. Unfortunately their fourth album; "3D" would be the very last. By the time the album was released in November of 2002, Left Eye passed away. Left Eye's presence could be heard on the album and the mood at times could be bittersweet. Still the remaining members of TLC; T-Boz and Chili truck on and make this an album similar to their previous albums. One of the differences here though is there is a lot of variety production wise in the form of Rodney Jerkins, Missy Elliott, The Neptunes, and Dallas Austin. TLC debuted with the single; "Girl Talk", followed by the racy video, "Hands Up"(who's video got pulled), and "Turntable".

Producer Spotlight: Will.I.Am

Image
We are all aware of Will.I.Am and his connection to the famed group The Black Eyed Peas. He is not only a front man of one of the biggest Pop groups out; he is also an accomplished producer. He has produced for virtually every artist imaginable and continues to be a well sought after producer today. He got his start at 16 thanks to late rapper Eazy E who signed him to his own Ruthless Records. His attempt at solo fame didn't prove as fruitful as it would his production gigs. Check out all the songs Will.I.Am had a hand in producing! Ordinary People, John Legend About You, Mary J. Blige I Love My Bitch, Busta Rhymes feat. Kelis & Will.I.Am What's That Right There?, Kelis feat. Will.I.Am OMG, Usher feat. Will.I.Am Damn Girl, Justin Timberlake feat. Fantasia's New Album Pushed Back Again!

I should of known it was too good to be true. Fantasia and her label mate; Ciara were going to drop their perspective albums; both on August 10. Now Fantasia's album; "Back To Me" will be released on August 24. Her single; "Bittersweet" is doing really well on the R&B charts. I believe that they are giving the song a chance to grow on other radio formats before releasing the album. Brandy recently spoke to Honey magazine online about being in Ray J's shadow and tension with her mother. Click here to check out the full interview! Fat Joe is in the clear after being accused of sexual assault. Joe's lawyer accused the 33 year old unidentified woman of extorting money from the rapper. This was after a performance that took place on June 21 in Madison, Wisconsin. Look out for Joe's new album; "The Dark Side" in stores July 27. ---------------- Now playing: The-Dream - F.I.L.A. via FoxyTunes

John Legend Is Releasing A New Album!

John Legend's new album won't be your typical John Legend album. The singer has opted to release a covers album titled; "Wake Up". The album's first single; "Wake Up Everybody" features Melanie Fiona and Common. The album will be in stores September 21. Meanwhile John Legend will be honored for his charitable work at this year's BET Awards airing Sunday, June 27 on BET. Congratulations are in order to Ne-Yo and his girlfriend. The couple are expecting a child due early next year. The singer/producer is currently preparing to release his new album; "Libra Scale" on September 21. Ne-Yo recently released the singles; "Champagne Life" and "Beautiful Monster". Lyfe Jennings claims that his new album; "I Still Believe" due August 31 will be his last! Lyfe's new single; "Statistics" has already struck a chord with listeners. Lyfe is choosing to spend more time with his family and three young children.

Throwback Video: Avant - Separated

Avant burst onto the scene with this torrid tale of separation and it hits pretty close to home. Kelly Rowland makes a guest appearance in the video and guests on the song's remix. I remember buying this single and eventually Avant's debut album; "My Thoughts". ---------------- Now playing: Avant - Separated via FoxyTunes

Album Spotlight: Ray J - Raydiation

Image
On "Raydiation"; Ray J scored one of his biggest hits the Rodney Jerkins produced; "One Wish". Subsequent singles followed such as "What I Need" and "Let's Play House" but none of them proved to be the hit that "One Wish" was. Still the music here is pretty good even though Ray J's vocals in my opinion are a little overproduced. There is a lot of star power here in the form of guests including sister; Brandy; R. Kelly; Mya; and Fat Joe. One of my favorite songs; "Blue High Heels" is a song Ray J decidedly dedicated to Halle Berry with good reason. Some other favorites of mine is "War Is Over", "Melody", and "Exotic". ---------------- Now playing: R. Kelly Feat. Swizz Beatz - The Champ via FoxyTunes

Producer Spotlight: Danja

Image
Some of the biggest crossover hits in recent years have been produced by Nate "Danja" Hills. It all stared with a chance encounter with producer Timbaland himself. After playing some music for Timbaland; the producer expressed interest in working with him. An invitation to Timbaland's Miami recording studio would prove to be beneficial. Serving as a ghost producer to Timbaland; Danja had a hand in some very viable hits. These weren't just your average R&B productions; these were state of the art pop songs. Check out the list to see for yourself! Migrate, Mariah Carey Knock You Down, Keri Hilson feat. Ne-Yo & Kanye West Say It Right, Nelly Furtado Gimme More, Britney Spears My Love, Justin Timberlake feat. T.I. Put You On The Game, The Game 4 Minutes, Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake Give It To Me, Timbaland feat. Nelly Furtado & Justin Timberlake ---------------- Now playing: Michael Jackson - Baby be Mine via FoxyTunes

Fantasia - Bittersweet Video

Fantasia recalls a past romance exploring the good and bad parts of it. It is something that we all often do and the feeling is truly bittersweet. When I first saw pictures from the video; I instantly thought of Fantasia's "Free Yourself" video which this video reminds me off. Nonetheless its still a good video. Fantasia's new album; "Back To Me" will be in stores August 10. ---------------- Now playing: Bertell - Beat It Up via FoxyTunes

LeToya Snatches Up Teyana Taylor!

There is nothing like a good old fashion girl fight! LeToya Luckett came out swinging as she spoke out against Teyana Taylor; who alongside her coached two of the basketball teams competing in Big Tigger's Celebrity Weekend in D.C. A lot of people including myself has questioned how serious LeToya came off. She seemed a little pissed but others claim that she is simply playing. You be the judge!

Throwback Video: Young Jeezy Featuring Keyshia Cole - Dreamin

Young Jeezy touches on the subject of rising from poverty and following one's dreams. I actually forgot about how much I liked this song. This was one of the many songs I played over and over again when I bought my first MP3 player. I believe it was after this song that Young Jeezy and Keyshia Cole were reportedly dating. What happened afterwards I'm not quite sure. I remember hearing some crazy rumors about Keyshia acting all crazy[over Jeezy] and what not. Maybe she too was "Dreamin"!

Album Spotlight: R. Kelly - Double Up

Image
On "Double Up" R. Kelly channels his inner rapper and he even goes great lengths to look like one the album's cover. R. Kelly goes one step further and incorporates a list of who's who in Rap including Nelly, Snoop[who appears on the title track], Kid Rock, Keyshia Cole, Swizz Beats, T.I., Huey, Ludacris and Chamillionaire. The singles here were the Usher duet; "Same Girl" as well as "I'm A Flirt". My personal favorites include; the title track; "Real Talk", "Freaky In The Club", and "Hook It Up". ---------------- Now playing: R. Kelly - I Like Love via FoxyTunes

Music Feed: When Nas Attacks

During the height of Nas' beef with Jay-Z; Nas not only took shots at Jay but a host of other rappers in the process. Over the last few years; Nas has become quite outspoken and controversial in his beliefs. Huge debates have arisen over his choice of words and later album titles like "Hip Hop Is Dead" and "Nigger". Surely Nas has paid his dues and is one of the most talented rappers in the game. His debut album; "Illmatic" released in 1994 is considered a classic. So surely he has the right to speak out on things since he is a seasoned vet. Speaking out doesn't always equate to being right. Often times one can be misunderstood or just plain bitter. Nas showed no signs of remorse when he went on brief tirade during the release of 2001's "Stillmatic". With "Ether" being the ultimate dis record; Nas was back on top and really feeling himself. Foxy Brown Nas opted to not reunite with The Firm and didn't want to appear on th

Producer Spotlight: The-Dream

Image
Chances are you have sung your heart out, bopped your head, and danced 'til you sweat listening to one of The-Dream's many productions over the last few years. Being one of the biggest producers in R&B has its perks! Your producing for some of the biggest artists in the world. A lot of those artists are artists you've personally looked up to and only dreamed of working with. I'm here to tell you dreams do come true and The-Dream is an aptly titled stage name for Terius Nash. R&B music is so trendy. There is always a search for the next big producer. Once a big producer becomes in demand; he is in demand. He is producing for some of the biggest stars and they all have one thing in common; they want a hit! Aside from his hit-making sensibilities; The-Dream would become famous for the "eh eh eh" chant. We all heard it in such songs as J. Holiday's "Bed" and most importanly; Rihanna's "Umbrella". On the heels of the release of h

Eminem's Recovery Album Set To Debut At #1!

Eminem is making a true "Recovery" not only musically but commercially as the new album is poised to debut with first week sales in excess of 590K-615K. This will easily best his last album; "Relapse" first week sales of 608K. Eminem is also looking to overtake the Billboard Hot 100 chart as his new single; "Love The Way You Lie" featuring Rihanna is #1 on iTunes. Congrats Em! Ryan Leslie is no longer signed to Universal Records. The singer/producer recently ended his contract with the label and is now an independent artists. Ryan's upcoming album; "Les Is More" will be released sometime in the near future. Meanwhile Ryan is also keeping busy producing for a plethora of artists including The Game, Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo, and Lil' Wayne. We are all aware of how much Mariah Carey loves her pets. She takes them everywhere she goes and she often features them in her twitter feed. I just happen to follow her so I would know. Mariah Carey's vet

Throwback Video: Clipse Featuring Faith Evans - Ma I Don't Love Her

In the video for "Ma I Don't Love Her"; the duo that make up The Clipse ward off any suspicions their perspective girlfriends may have about other women. It's an interesting and humorous look into what many men and women face. Enjoy! ---------------- Now playing: Nicole Scherzinger - I M.I.S.S. U (Feat. Pharrell ) via FoxyTunes

Album Spotlight: Robin Thicke - The Evolution Of Robin Thicke

Image
Robin Thicke's "Evolution" album is much in line with his albums that followed. Many may mistake this as Robin's first album but this is in fact his second. The album took off when his single; "Lost Without U" went to #1 on the R&B charts. The album's first single; "Wanna Love U Girl" featured Pharrell and didn't take off but it is a personal favorite of mine. Thanks to "Lost Without U" the album drew critical acclaim and eventually went platinum. Robin was soon drawing comparisons to other blue eyed soul frontmen like Jon B. and Justin Timberlake. Aside from Pharrell being on the album; Faith Evans appears on "Got 2 Be Down" another personal favorite of mine. Most of the material here is mid tempo and would be the type of romantic music that Robin would become known for. ---------------- Now playing: Robin Thicke - Complicated via FoxyTunes

Cam'ron Speaks On Jim Jones & Dipset Reuntion!

Cam'ron visited Funkmaster Flex and dished about his upcoming album with Vado as well as his fallout with Jim Jones and a Dipset reunion. Check it out!

Teiarra Mari's New Album Has Been Shelved!

I just read that Teairra Mari's new album; "At That Point" has been shelved. The album was scheduled to be released this month. The album suffered quite a few pushbacks. The album also struggled to find a hit single. Though "Sponsor" did moderately well on the R&B charts; that simply was not going to warrant an album release. Over a year's time Teairra released five different singles including; "Hunt For You" featuring Pleasure P and "Automatic" featuring Nicki Minaj. Just when I was somewhat anticipating the release of the new Game album; "The R.E.D. Album" due August 24; there is a possibility that it won't be released. Desperado Entertainment who claims to be responsible for introducing Game(to us)has filed a lawsuit against Universal Records and Aftermath. They claim that they are owed royalties from the sales of Game's album which have sold in excess of 5 million albums. This impeding lawsuit is said to hold up

Sean Garrett Featuring Nicki Minaj - Get It All Video

Sean Garrett plays a high school student infatuated with the new girl at school. It's there that he romanticizes about the luxuries and good times he's willing to provide for her; hence the title; "Get It All". Nicki Minaj makes her cameo as a girl that has all the guys in the school sweating her. Enjoy! "Get It All" didn't exactly set the charts on fire. I am a little surprised that the song got the video treatment. Maybe this is a ploy to reignite the song now that it has an accompanying video.

Toni Braxton Graces New Upscale Magazine Cover!

Image
Toni Braxton is looking very healthy and radiant on the new issue of Upscale magazine. On June 28 starting at 10 a.m. you all can log onto Yahoo's Music Page to catch the premiere of the new Toni Braxton video; "Woman". The song appears on Toni's newest album; "Pulse" in stores now. Music Biz: Alicia Keys Has Unborn Baby Blessed! Alicia Keys certainly doesn't look five months pregnant to me based on the recent pictures I have seen. Maybe it is because she has been covering it up so well. I mean it is no longer a secret now so why hide it! Embrace it! Alicia Keys has had her unborn child blessed in a traditional Zulu ceremony while in South Africa for the World Cup. The Grammy award-winning singer, who is around five months pregnant, joined hands with music producer fiance Swizz Beatz for the outdoor blessing near Durban, on the country's eastern coast. Wearing tribal beads, Alicia and her baby were given Zulu names while standing under a fig t

Throwback Video: Whitney Houston - Greatest Love Of All

Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love Of All" is one of her biggest hits and a song many try and emulate mostly with mixed results. Listening to this song I realize how sappy it really is but its funny cause I knew nearly half of the lyrics. Enjoy!

J. Cole - Who Dat Video

I think most people are familiar with J. Cole and now this song. The rapper is signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation and Columbia Records. I read that his debut album will be released this October. It's funny because just yesterday my sister was asking me about J. Cole. She heard he was being compared to Drake. Both have huge buzzes but I guess I kind of see the comparison. ---------------- Now playing: Brandy - Necessary via FoxyTunes

Album Spotlight: Trey Songz - I Gotta Make It

Image
Trey Songz debut album; "I Gotta Make It" opens up with some encouraging words from the Queen of Soul herself; Aretha Franklin. What a way to start off a debut album from a budding talent! The album's first single was the title track which told the story of making it big and maintaining your dignity and humbleness. There is a bit of old school R&B undertones throughout and of course the sexual songs we'd all come to know and love from Trey. I remember my friend coming over my house with this album and gushing over it. Anytime he gushes over anything; I'd have to check it out. We have a lot of the same musical taste and he would never steer me wrong musically. Though it would take three albums for people to realize Trey's true potential this is where it all started. It is the perfect introduction to this R&B lothario. Some of my favorite songs include "Ur Behind", "The What Ifs", and "Cheat On You".

Fantasia Pushes New Album Back!

This was bound to happen since it does with the majority of R&B/Hip-Hop releases. Titled; "Back To Me" the album is now due on August 10. Meanwhile her debut single; "Bittersweet" is currently #18 on the R&B charts. The video to "Bittersweet" will premiere June 25. "Entertainment Tonight" will have an exclusive behind the scenes of the video on June 21. Make sure you all look out for the video and album! It's getting closer to this year's BET Awards which will air; Sunday, June 27, 2010. BET is set to pay yet another tribute to Michael Jackson. By this time it would be a whole year since the untimely death of the superstar. I just hope that this tribute is better put together than last year. I understand it was last minute and it was certainly all over the place. There had been some confusion and question as to when Ciara's new album; "Basic Instinct" would come out. Originally I remember hearing June 29 but apparent

Dirty Money Featuring Rick Ross & Nicki Minaj - Hello Good Morning Remix Video

Music Biz: Sean Garret Working With Whitney Houston On New Album! As the primary songwriter of megahits such as Usher's "Yeah!," Chris Brown's "Run It!," Ciara’s "Goodies," and, most recently, Mario’s "Break Up," hip-hop producer Sean Garrett is one of the decade’s guiding forces in music, penning 15 number one hits. (He’s rumored to be working on an album with Whitney Houston. Let’s hope he can pass along some of that Billboard karma to that diva train wreck.) But unlike other writas-ternt-sangas such as Ne-Yo and The-Dream, Garrett hasn’t found the same success behind the mike as he has behind the pen. His debut album, Turbo 919, was a mere blip on the pop radar; nonetheless, Garrett is pushing ahead with new solo material. His upcoming single, the Tyga and Gucci Mane collaboration "She Geeked," is already one of the hotter songs of the summer. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2010-06-17 ... b-the-mike ----------------

Throwback Video: Blackstreet - (Money Can't) Buy Me Love

Blackstreet was one of the top selling R&B groups by 1996 when they released this single and video. It is one of my favorite songs from the group.

Faith Evans Unveils Way You Move Single Cover!

Image
Faith dons her signature red hair for the single cover for her brand new first single; "Way You Move" featuring Snoop Dogg. The song leaked out merely two weeks ago and the response so far has been pretty mixed. It just goes to show you can't please everyone. I am fan of Faith's and she is pretty consistent to me. Faith has a reality show in the works that will be airing later this year. Make sure you look out for that. ---------------- Now playing: Trina - Showing Out via FoxyTunes

Producer Spotlight: The Neptunes

Image
The Neptunes is one of my favorite producers so its really a pleasure to do a write up on them. I've always admired their sound and I have always liked Pharrell's songwriting. The Neptunes started out working alongside artists such as SWV and Total. Their big break came with Kelis and the single; "Caught Out There". It was then that many were captivated by this futuristic sound and wanted it for the centerpiece of their singles. Pharrell Williams; who is one half of the famed duo took an immediate step into the spotlight. Often becoming the voice of the duo and an artist in his own right. Pharrell would become a featured artists on his own productions thanks in part to many of the rappers he produced for. Chad Hugo would be deemed the quiet one of the duo but also joined Pharrell in their group; N.E.R.D. and did a few side projects without Pharrell's involvement. The Neptunes may of hit their peak some years back but I have never counted them out. The Neptunes wor

Album Spotlight: Mya - Fear Of Flying

Image
"Fear Of Flying" was Mya's second album and much more broader musically than her 1998 self-titled debut. The album's first single; "Best Of Me" featured Jadakiss and was a typical song we'd come to expect from Mya. For the album's second single; "Case Of The Ex"; Mya scored one of her biggest Pop hits going all the way to #2. There were more guest artists on the album this time including Left Eye; Wyclef Jean; and more. Rodney Jerkins; Swizz Beats; and Robin Thicke led a hand in the songwriting and production. It was definitely a step up from the first album even though it housed a lot of big name producers as well. The songs on "Fear Of Flying" are more clever such as "Lie Detector" and more revealing such as "For The First Time"; which is a personal favorite. Mya would earn another platinum album with "Fear Of Flying".

Artist Spotlight: T.I.

Image
The spotlight is back on T.I. as he has reemerged(I been using that word a lot lately) out of jail and back onto the music scene. T.I.'s new album; "King Uncaged" due in August; T.I. is all over the place. He will be appearing on new albums from The Game and many others. (Here I am drawing a blank again). In addition to his already hot music career; T.I. will be starring in the new movie; "Takers" due this August. It is his sheer star power and dare I say it; all around cockiness that makes T.I. a hit with the ladies and a favorite among males for choice rapper. T.I. is already having a fantastic year and it will only flourish through the remainder of the year. ---------------- Now playing: Blackstreet - tonight's the night via FoxyTunes

Throwback Video: Brooke Valentine Featuring Big Boi - Girlfight

I wonder what ever became of Brooke Valentine? She had a hit single with "Girlfight" and it had been her only hit single; making her one of the coveted one hit wonders. I remember there being a second album; "Physical Education" in the works but it was never released. ---------------- Now playing: Trina feat. Pitbull - Stop Traffic via FoxyTunes

Naturi Naughton H8AZ Music Video!

After her success in films like "Fame" and "Notorious"; I guess it was a matter of time before Naturi Naughton released a solo album. "H8AZ" is from her self titled debut solo album which is out now. Strangely enough this is my first time hearing anything about this song and album. Something tells me though I am not alone. ---------------- Now playing: Mariah Carey - Candy Bling via FoxyTunes

Producer Spotlight: Jazze Pha

Image
I first became familiar with Jazze Pha through Ciara and his work on her debut album and subsequent singles. I'm assuming that is how most people would come to familiarize themselves with him. Mostly known for his work with artists from Atlanta; Jazze Pha soon broadened his musical horizons working with artists such as Mary J. Blige; Too $hort; and more. Familiarize yourself with some of the songs that Jazze Pha has produced over the years! Just Fine; Mary J. Blige Sick Of Being Lonely; Field Mob 1, 2 Step; Ciara feat. Missy Elliott Gimme Some; Toni Braxton I Don't Wanna; Aaliyah That's My Man; Monica Area Codes; Ludacris feat. Nate Dogg Let's Get Down; Bow Wow Don't Act Right; Fantasia It's Your B-Day; Trina Superfreak; Foxy Brown

Album Spotlight: LeToya - LeToya

Image
The majority of LeToya's debut solo album leaked prior to its release. In order to keep some of the music fresh; LeToya and camp changed song titles and even changed song lyrics. First single; "Torn" went to #1 and showed everyone that LeToya was a force to be reckoned with. Though she missed the mark with her second single; "She Don't"; LeToya's album went platinum. There is a lot of great music here such as "So Special" and "Obvious" which is a personal favorite of mine and which should of been a single. It was here that LeToya showed promise as a solo artist and it set the stage for her future albums and singles. ---------------- Now playing: Young Buck Feat. Chester Bennington - Slow Ya Roll via FoxyTunes

T.I. Appears On The New Issue Of XXL Magazine!

Image
And its rather befitting that he appear on the coveted Hip-Hop magazine. After all his new album; "King Uncaged" will be in stores August 17. In addition to that he will appear in the movie; "Takers" which also stars Chris Brown. From the previews I saw; the movie looks like it will be pretty good. Music Biz: Lil' Boosie Indicted For Murder! It's a sad thing to see life imitating art and it is a common occurrence with many rappers. I hope this trend stops because I really hate to see a lot of rappers jailed. Baton Rouge-born rapper, Torrence Hatch, known to fans as Lil Boosie, was indicted by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury Thursday afternoon on a first-degree murder charge for his alleged involvement in a shooting incident in October that left one man dead, reports CBS affiliate WAFB. According to District Attorney Hillar Moore, if convicted Hatch, who is already in prison for a probation violation, could face the death penalty. Detectives told

Throwback Video: Lloyd - Get It Shawty

Lloyd was coming off the success of "You" featuring Lil' Wayne when he released "Get It Shawty" as his second single. The song was produced by J-Lack who is Usher's brother I believe.

Kelly Rowland Rose Colored Glasses Single Cover!

Image
Kelly Rowland is pulling out all the stops to ensure that her latest album; "Kelly Rowland" will be a success. Dropping multiple singles at a time including the newest single; "Rose Colored Glasses" is just one example of the marketing blitz. Kelly Rowland's self titled album will be in stores September 14. Music Biz: Kelis Battles Once Again With PETA! And in typical Kelis fashion; she is not one to bite her tongue and never has been. Check out the article. As PETA continues to lash out at Kelis and her fur-wearing style, the electro-pop singer has kept fighting back and wants the final word on the matter. After writing an open letter in January where she proclaimed she would always wear fur, PETA has consistently made statements criticizing her outfits and the singer is sick of it. To Kelis, it's a privacy issue and she just wants everyone to leave her alone. "I've always worn fur," she told gossip blogger Perez Hilton in a video interview. &

Producer Spotlight: Swizz Beats

Image
Swizz Beats rose to prominence thanks to DMX and the Ruff Ryder crew. His production work there led to more high profile production gigs. Like other producers; he has thrived as a solo artist. He has released two albums; "One Man Band" being the most recent. Some of his hit singles include "It's Me Snitches" and "Money In The Bank". He started Full Surface Records; an imprint of J Records which housed such acts as ex-wife; Mashonda and Cassidy. He went through a publicized divorce with Mashonda after it was revealed that he and Alicia Keys were dating. Now two years later; the couple is engaged and expecting their first child. Swizz Beats has offered us some rather varied production over the years and if you weren't listening; you might of missed these productions listed below. Check On It; Beyonce OOC; Mariah Carey Touch It; Busta Rhymes Stop Snitchin; Ice Cube Dog & A Fox; Foxy Brown feat. DMX Teenage Love Affair Remix; Alicia Keys Pac's

Album Spotlight: Rah Digga - Dirty Harriet

Image
Rah Digga's boisterous lyrics and menacing flow were in full effect on her debut album; "Dirty Harriet". Released in 2000; the album was responsible for the singles; "Tight" "Imperial" featuring Busta Rhymes, and "Break Fool". I remember buying this album from a music club I was in. Honestly I became a fan off the strength that Rah Digga was a Foxy Brown fan. Me being a big Foxy Brown fan; I really got into Rah Digga. One of my favorite songs on the album is "Curtains". There are so many songs here I like but they aren't coming to mind quick enough. There are plenty of punchlines for those who love intricate wordplay. The beats are nasty and gritty; in a good way. You are bound to forget that you are listening to an album by a female rapper. With that said it is definitely not your average female rapper album. That is for sure! ---------------- Now playing: TLC - Take Our Time via FoxyTunes

Maxwell & Jill Scott Tour Cancelled!

Well that is the word going around. Apparently the two stars along with Erykah Badu couldn't get along. The opening acts; Erykah and Jill were going over their minutes in set and Maxwell wasn't having it. He was the headlining act of course. My sister was just telling me a story about how a friend of hers saw Maxwell in concert. She said that her friend told her he was acting strange. He was sweating profusely and his shirt was soak and wet. Listening to this made me think of the "E! True Hollywood Story" on Whitney and Bobby. I remember them saying the same things about Bobby! Makes you wonder! I just read that Kelly Rowland has named her new album after herself; making it a self-titled album. The album is slated to be released on September 14. The album's first single is "Grown Ass Woman". Make sure you be on the look out for that! Don't look forward to a new album from T-Pain anytime soon. The singer/producer doesn't have any plans to release

Throwback Video: Alicia Keys - Unbreakable

Alicia Keys sings about the unbreakable bond that lies in a series of relationships; real and fictional ranging from Florida and James Evans[of TV show "Good Times"] and Bill and Camille Cosby.

Lil' Cease Weighs In On Lil' Kim & Nicki Minaj Beef!

Every one has something to say about the beef between Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj. I stand corrected though. This is not really a beef between both female rappers. This is really a beef that Lil' Kim has. Nicki Minaj has remained pretty mum on the subject and that's a good thing. For Hip Hop News & Entertainment at DimeWars.Com ---------------- Now playing: Wale - Let It Loose ft. Pharrell via FoxyTunes

Kelly Rowland Featuring Africa United - Everywhere We Go Video

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't exactly kept up with the World Cup. This song is said to be the World Cup Theme. Every time I turn around though I'm hearing a song from R. Kelly or K'naan is a theme. While I bask in my own confusion; you all can check out the latest video that features Kelly Rowland.

Music Feed: September 14

Though September 14 is merely two months away; its slowly becoming a Super Tuesday. And if your not sure what Super Tuesday is; it represents a day in music where there are a lot of releases or in other words huge releases. Though some of the artists releasing albums aren't of...let's say Usher status; there is still a lot to look forward to musically. And of course these dates are subject to change. But as of now let's just hope and pray they all pan out and are released on September 14. I'm sure there are some albums I'm forgetting. I'm not perfect folks! And there are probably even more albums that will be released this day. Until then just check out who's set to be released on September 14. Okay? Air Tight Revenge; Bilal Bilal hasn't released an album in over nine years but people are still asking when the next album is coming out. Well you have your answer! The album's first single; "Free" was just released. Kelly Rowland; Kelly Rowlan

Kelly Rowland Appears On Cosmopolitan Magazine!

Image
And that's the African cover of Cosmopolitan. I was reading some comments regarding the picture and they weren't very nice. I think Kelly looks nice but maybe the background should of been different or her dress; just so that they can kind of match up. Anyway Kelly has been making the rounds in support of her new single overseas; "Commander" and here in the states will be the single; "Grown Ass Woman". ---------------- Now playing: Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Bill via FoxyTunes

Drake's New Album Set To Debut At #1!

There has been a lot of guesses and speculation regarding Drake's first week album sales. I even saw some people say he had a shot of doing 1 million or 2 million but that is absolutely pushing it. This is not a Lil' Wayne album. There is huge buzz and according to early estimations; Drake is poised to sell 425-475K units in his first week. There is a strong chance that the album will top that number but it remains to be seen. Unlike most artists we never have to wait long for the next Rihanna album. While her most recent album; "Rated R" somewhat underperformed; Rihanna has been working on her newest album. I read that Def Jam's newest A&R is pulling out the stops to ensure that this album is the next "Thriller" as in Michael Jackson's "Thriller". I think if anyone can pull it off; it would be someone like Rihanna but not with this music she's been giving us lately. I'm sure they are aware of that though. Joining in on the r

Album Spotlight: Alicia Keys - The Diary Of Alicia Keys

Image
Alicia Keys continued her R&B/Pop dominance on her second album which picked up her debut; "Songs In A Minor" left off. If you thought the singles from her debut were huge; the ones on "Diary" were even more huge. The album's first single was "You Don't Know My Name" which was produced by Kanye West. The video featured Mos Def and was jokingly referred to as a stalker anthem. One of my favorite songs; "Diary" was also a single featured Tony Toni Tone! Who could forget the "If I Ain't Got You" which was another unforgettable single here. This album is thoroughly enjoyable to me and my favorite album from Alicia Keys' catalog. ---------------- Now playing: Shades - - Tell Me (I'll Be Around) via FoxyTunes
