You all remember Blu Cantrell? She debuted in the Summer of 2001 with her hit single "Hit Em Up Style(Oops)". She released her debut album, "So Blu" in July of 2001 and the album went gold. Blu Cantrell went on to have other hit songs mostly overseas though and there was a rumor that she was making a comeback. In the meantime enjoy your debut single and video.

DECEMBER BABY: Alicia Keys has revealed that she will give birth in December. When asked about the sex of the baby she remained coy. As for her new album which she is still working on, you can expect Pharrell Williams on production duties. He described the album as "next level". We will have to wait and hear. I like Alicia Keys but her albums put me to sleep. SO BLU: Blu Cantrell is said to be undergoing physical evaluation. The Hit Em Up Style(Oops) singer was said to be screaming that someone was trying to kill her with a "poisonous gas". Someone called the police and Blu was taken in. Poor Blu! I am a fan but I always thought Blu was a little nutty and this story, if true proves it. Good luck to her. A name you haven't heard in awhile; Blu Cantrell is rumored to be returning with new music. Her new single is said to feature Lil' Wayne. Awhile back someone posted under a fake Blu Cantrell page saying she had new music but the singer denied the claims. Blu Cantrell disappeared from the limelight after reportedly escaping to deal with some personal issues. The singer was signed to Arista in 2001 and released her gold album So Blu . In 2003 she released her Grammy nominated album Bittersweet which featured the single Breathe featuring Sean Paul. More rumors. I'm reading that Brandy has pushed her album release date to October 2. The album Two Eleven features the single Put It Down featuring Chris Brown. These artists and push backs. I swear this stuff gets annoying. R&B releases typically get pushed back at least twice before its all said and done.

Well what do you know? Blu Cantrell has finally decided to return to the music scene with a new mixtape offering and album and single to follow. First up is the mixtape; "Blood, Sweat, and Years" which will be released soon; no release date available. Second; a single; "So Sick" featuring Missy Elliott(who collaborated with Blu on a song called; "Spank My Ass"). Third; a release of a new album titled; "Never Too Late". While Blu has faded into obscurity; people online had been questioning her whereabouts and return to the game for awhile. The singer released two albums; 2001's "So Blu" and 2003's "Bittersweet". After her career taking over overseas; Blu resorted to the UK and was pretty much there all the time. After awhile rumors of bizarre behavior and drugs threatened to ruin Blu's career. Sadly the album was overlooked but its still a grown and sexy affair. The lead single; "Breathe" didn't do much here in the states but went #1 in the UK.

The album featured newly recorded tracks, unreleased material, and various interludes; everything a mixtape album consists of. As for the title, "L.A." refers to Los Angeles but upon further inspection it could also refer to L.A. Reid who is the mastermind behind Blu Cantrell. L.O. stands for London because after the release of her debut album, "So Blu", Blu Cantrell became a big star overseas and her subsequent singles went to #1. There are highlights throughout "From L.A. To L.O" including "Lady", "Hustlin' Around", and the Missy Elliott produced, "Spank My Ass". The single, "Make Me Wanna Scream" from "Bittersweet" briefly appears on the album. This mixtape album was the first of many that came from a number of R&B artists....

This song brings back a lot of memories. It was released in 2001 which in my opinion was the last good year of music. And whatever happened to Blu Cantrell? Well the singer had been in rehab but is finally picking up the pieces and beginning to record a new album. Make sure you be on the look out for that.

An old friend of mine was responsible for introducing me to Blu Cantrell. He won me over with her 2001 debut; 'So Blu '. So once her second album; 'Bittersweet' came; I was more than happy to pick it up. It wasn't as well received as her debut album but it did result in a Grammy nomination for Best R&B album. Overseas though the album and subsequent singles really took off. I feel like this album in particular falls under the category of 'grown folks music' because that's what it is. It's for adults but its also very hip so it would appeal to some younger folks. Early versions of the album featured a racy interview with Wendy Williams on DVD. Wendy got all up in Blu's business and it was something that Blu later said she regretted doing. I guess I can understand that. I don't remember how I ended up on YouTube but I'm finding videos I haven't seen in awhile and they are all making perfect throwback videos for the day. I love Blu Cantrell and she is one of my favorite singers. Most of the artists I really like others just don't care for or they get a particular amount of hate. I think that just makes me like them more and I like to be different, but not too different.

A year later Blu was set to release her sophomore album, "Bittersweet". Lead single, "Breathe" didn't exactly take off in the states. Fortunately her label at the time, Arista Records revamped the single and added Sean Paul to it. Unfortunately Sean Paul couldn't save the Dr. Dre-sampled song. Fortunately though for Cantrell, she found success with the single overseas. Subsequent singles including the fiery "Make Me Wanna Scream" were received well. The album, "Bittersweet" also did well. The US wasn't as receptive to Blu's melancholy, overwrought, and sometimes trashy appeal. Despite people's perception of Blu many will agree she is an excellent singer.
