Mariah Carey And Her Wacky Album Titles Examined!

I don't really have a problem with Mariah Carey and her album titles but over the years she has been criticized for it among other things. Why am I writing about Mariah? Well I was on twitter and one of my friends was talking about Mariah's "Charmbracelet" album which is an album I used to own from Mariah and one I really liked.

Mariah Carey and her wackiest album titles are examined.

Butterfly(1997) - I think this was truly the beginning of the album titles that made people go like hmmm? But Mariah always had a reasoning behind her album titles mostly in reference to some of her favorite things. On Butterfly though Mariah sung mostly about her breakup and resentment from her relationship with Tommy Mottola.

Rainbow(1999) - Freshly dipped in spray paint and leaving little to the imagination, Mariah Carey stunned critics again with Rainbow.

Glitter(2001) - Originally titled All That Glitters, after the movie of the same name, later titled simply Glitter, Mariah was becoming a pro with strange album titles. Glitter, was the soundtrack that represented Mariah's screen debut which failed at the box office and musically with critics.

Charmbracelet(2003) - Despite the album title, Charmbracelet is a really good album and sadly overlooked since it came after the disastrous Glitter album. Charmbracelet is another one of Mariah's many favorite things. Shouldn't Mariah be like Oprah and just give away her 'favorite things'?

The Emancipation of Mimi(2005) - Who was Mimi? And who was being emancipated? Mimi was later revealed to be a nickname for Mariah and an introduction to the real her. Really? Well it was nice getting to know this Mariah. This album was a huge hit but it marked the beginning of Mariah and her bad live performances.

E=MC2(2008) - A follow-up of sorts to Mimi, this album was lesser received and while the title is unique and different, the music didn't represent or live up to the title.

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel(2009?) - Mariah did what she does best! Having everyone baffled at her choice of album titles. What did this title mean? According to Mariah, the album represent Mariah at her current state and read like a journal of sorts. The first single, "Obsessed" was later branded a teaser after it didn't debut at #1.
