Flippity Flop! Some Of Music's Biggest Flops!

The world 'flop' is used a lot on the message boards I visit. It is actually a word that I have come to despise and one that annoys me. Despite how I feel the word made for a good music feed as I like to call these. I would be sitting here and typing all day if I had to name every flop album in the last 20 years. These albums are largely considered flops by industry standards. The artists mentioned below have a track record for hit albums and hit singles but even they hit a snag.

Glitter by Mariah Carey
Mariah's one and only album for Virgin Records came on the eve of her nervous and mental breakdown. Even though the album did go platinum, the album was considered a huge flop. The album produced one hit, "Loverboy" which went to #2 on the pop charts and #1 on the R&B charts.

Afrodisiac by Brandy
As I have said many times before, Brandy's personal life overshadows her music. Clearly her personal life is more interesting but it is also the very thing she sings about in her music. Brandy's [secret] faux marriage to [former] boyfriend Robert Smith and fighting with Timbaland [over the album's singles and directions] may have played a part in the album's less than stellar sales.

The Declaration by Ashanti
Sad to say this album was deemed a disaster prior to its release. Numerous push backs and a racy interview with Irv Gotti tainted Ashanti's star. The album did produce two hit singles, "The Way That I Love You" (#2 R&B) and "Good Good"(#30 R&B).

Notorious K.I.M. by Lil' Kim
This was the follow up to Kim's highly-successful debut, "Hardcore". The album went platinum was largely considered a failure due to its lack of direction and not duplicating the sales of "Hardcore" which went double platinum.

Chyna Doll by Foxy Brown Foxy Brown's follow-up to her platinum, "Ill Na Na" album was considered a huge flop thanks in part to her album quickly falling off the charts and her take on Lil' Kim's rap style.

Sorry, but Foxy's Chyna Doll was not a flop. It is the FIRST album by a female rapper to EVER debut at NUMBER ONE on the Billboard 200 chart, not any of those sub-genre charts they have. And I'm almost 100% positive that it just as good if not better in the sales department as Ill Na Na. And she has NEVER sounded like kim either. Foxy has ALWAYS looked and rapped better than kim, bottom_______

Unfortunately like any group troubled times put a damper on many of the working relationships that existed between these duos. I kept wondering what it was about this post, that made it so successful; one word: JANET! The fact that Janet has new music on the way makes this post even more of a hot topic.
