Daily Roundup: Summer Music Preview

Mark your calenders! Motown Universal has just released their Summer 2008 Releases. Don't get too excited though. Release dates are subject to change and you know how frequently release dates change.

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III - May 8

  • After numerous pushbacks, the self-proclaimed "best rapper alive", Lil' Wayne will release his long awaited, "The Carter 3" album. First single, "Lollipop" will premiere on BET's "Access Granted".

David Banner - The Greatest Story Ever Told - June 3

  • First single or buzz single, "Speaker" fizzled at radio so a future single will be issued shortly if it hasn't already.

Ashanti - The Declaration - June 3

  • Third time has definitely been the charm for Ashanti as her 3rd leaked single (and official 1st single), "The Way That I Love You" has become a fan favorite ans is rapidly climbing up the charts. Even though the song won't be added to radio until April 1 it hasn't stopped radio programmers from jumping on this R&B gem.

Lloyd - TBD - June 3

  • Lloyd is getting set to release the follow up to his gold "Street Love" album. Rumored to be titled, "Sexual Education" and "Straight It" so far collaborations have been recorded with Ludacris and Lil' Wayne. No word yet on what the official first single is.

Ryan Leslie - TBD - June 10

  • Producer Ryan Leslie who has produced hits for Cassie and Danity Kane finally gets his chance at solo success and so far hit single, "Diamond Girl" has been so well received that high profile rappers such as 50 Cent and Kanye West have jumped on unofficial remixes of the song.

Nelly - Brass Knuckles - June 24

  • First single or buzz single, "Wadyasay" or whatever it was called fizzled at radio. According to Ashanti the album is shaping up quite nicely when asked during a recent visit to "TRL". We will have to wait and see.

Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part 2 - July 29

  • This is the second half of a double album released by Erykah Badu. Expect more eccentric, introspective, and rousing anthems from this soul queen.

Rapper Game has been released from jail after serving only 8 days according to MTV! Now his manager says he's been moved to another jail though. If Game is in fact still serving his sentence he will be released in early April in time to support his upcoming album, "L.A.X. Times". I'm not sure on an exact release date for the album at this time. Game stated that he would "retire" after this album but depending on how this album is received will ultimately determine his decision. I think some rappers throw the word "retire" around mainly for publicity sake and get people to buy the next album with the thought that this could be the final album. It is a tactic that Jay-Z has used time and time again but somehow he keeps getting pulled in.
