Kanye, 50, Nas, Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Janet
The Stakes Are High
According to Hitsdailydouble, Kanye West is on track to do 700K in his first week with a shot at 800K easily making him #1 next week. 50 Cent is in second place with 550K with a shot at 650K. It is really too soon to call but that's how the numbers are looking right now. Hits is known for their first week record sales predictions more than anything else. It is an actual site with music related articles, radio airplay, upcoming music releases, etc. They are usually pretty dead on with their predictions. They predicted Usher's, "Confessions" would break a million copies in its first week. How are they able to predict this info? They have a direct tie with the music retail giants like Best Buy etc.
...Back So Soon?
It is not very often when artists put out a two albums in two years. Well Nas is releasing a new album this December! The new album is untitled but a new single should surface this October. Last I heard, Nas was releasing a greatest hits album but it might of been scrapped. I'll have to look into that. Nas' last album, "Hip Hop Is Dead" debuted at #1 in December of last year. The title track sparked a huge debate and had everyone from 50 to Young Jeezy speaking about Hip-hop's current state.
He's In Control
MTV asked Janet Jackson about her upcoming album. On the album's process "it's in its beginning stages". On working with NeYo, "it's a possibility". On what to expect from the album: "I'm just doing me". Jermaine Dupri chimed in and shot down Janet's claims about her upcoming album. JD said "She been recording everyday!" I swear JD has become Janet's publicist. He speaks for her and tells everyone what's going on with her. Your better off asking JD about Janet and her album than herself. He'll tell us all what we want to know.
Album Update:
I was reading Toya's World and she reported that Mya's "Liberation" is back on the fall music schedule. Oct 23rd to be exact!
News Tidbits:
- Trick Daddy was arrested for a brawl and disorderly intoxication in a Florida's Gentleman Club. What the fluck?
- R. Kelly due in court on Sept 28th. Not for his child molestation charges but for an arraignment or whatever it is called.
- Jennifer Hudson to co-star in new "Sex In The City" movie. That's cool I guess. I remember when they were trying to do the "SITC" movie awhile back. The project fell flat because Kim Cattrall didn't want to do the movie. I wonder is it too late to do a movie now. Does anyone really still care? I never watched the show but I know it was a huge hit on TV.
- Season 2 American Idol winner Ruben Studdard and alums Clay Aiken and Kimberly Locke will tour together. I'm happy for them. They could all use the money, Ruben and Kimberly especially.
- 50 Cent had a concert (I believe over the VMA festivities) that turned dangerous. The stage nearly collapsed after 50 started showing out. He was throwing money into the audience. I can only imagine the pandemonium. I would break my neck to grab what I could too. 50 got bank!
- Kanye West had a "Mariah Carey Breakdown Alert" at the VMA's backstage! He didn't win any awards as we all know, and he had a lot to air out.
