Eve In Her Guest Role On TV's 'Glee'!

Eve is one of the few female rappers who has taken her brand beyond rap and into such ventures as TV and fashion. Here, Eve guest stars on one of TV's most popular shows, 'Glee'. Check it out!

I know the people I follow on twitter are so crazy about 'Glee' but I have never got into it.

Music Biz:
Chris Brown Axed From Timbaland Album!

Chris Brown was officially dropped from a track on Timbaland's new album -- and sources tell TMZ, the decision wasn't entirely about the music.

A source close to Brown tells TMZ the singer's vocals were removed from a song called "The One I Love" due to the "drama" surrounding him.

Tim's manager, Marcus Spence, confirms Brown was dropped from the song -- but insists the move was a "creative decision for both parties" adding, "There's nothing against Chris. We love Chris."

But according to rapper D.O.E. -- who does appear on the track -- the song was originally called "Maniac" ... but was changed because "some people" didn't think it would be a good idea to attach Brown to a song with that title.

Funny enough -- Timbaland's album will be released the same day as Brown's ... December 8th.
I see Chris is continuing to feel the fallout that comes with negativity and bad press. Like R. Kelly, he was virtually shunned from everyone in the industry. Once he dropped a decent album, his phone began ringing again and that seems to be the case with Chris. I think this whole situation has hurt him a little but not entirely.

Mariah Carey Remix Album On The Way!

Amidst rumours of a possible split from her label, Mariah Carey’s ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ remix album will be arriving in stores in February 2010. The news was confirmed today by the diva’s manager Chris Lighty via his official twitter page. An all-star list of Hip-Hop/R&B acts have been lined up for the project including Big Boi, R. Kelly, Trey Songz, T-Pain, Jodeci, Gucci Mane and Jermaine Dupri. The original version of ‘Memoirs…’ has thus far shipped an underwhelming 325,000 copies in the US.

Missy Elliott Makes Us All 'Lose Control'!

If I'm not mistaken this is Missy Elliott's last big hit; solo wise. She hit somewhat of a roadblock after the release of 'The Cookbook' when the subsequent singles failed to take off and her album, 'Block Party', the follow-up was scraped(as far I figure). Missy has kept herself busy producing(Keyshia Cole) and guest starring(Trina) on other people's album.

I just came across 'Lose Control' as I was on YouTube for a totally different purpose. I saw 'Lose Control' and thought it would make a great throwback video and a perfect tribute to female rappers. As we all know Missy does it all; sing, dance, acts, etc.

Mary J. Blige Stand Against Abuse!

So I did say I wouldn't return to blogging for a few days namely December 1 but I couldn't help myself.

So Mary J. Blige has pushed her album, 'Stronger'(now 'Stronger With Each Tear') back to December 22. It is not an uncommon thing for Mary J. to release albums in December. Why? Well because she's been pretty successful upon doing so. The singles from this album so far have been underwhelming and pretty forgettable in my opinion.

The song 'Stronger' which was co-written by Chris Brown and featured background vocals from him was the to be featured on 'Each Tear' but now Mary has pulled the song off the album and changed the title. I was reading something about Mary not wanting to include Chris on the song due to his past with Rihanna. And some of the members on the message board were saying Mary won't duet with Chris but with her ex K-Ci.

Personally I liked the song 'Stronger' and I think Mary should of included it but hey that's her decision. I just hope this album is good cause personally I could use some new Mary music in my life.

Busta Rhymes Said To Be Broke, Dating A Tranny!

Certainly you can't believe everything you read. I always feel like there is some truth to a rumor. Busta Rhymes has been pretty quiet on the music scene since his last album, 'Back On My B.S.' flopped. Now there are some allegations going around about his personal life. Read below for the full story and more!

Sources say Busta Rhymes is having some major financial issues and is maxing out credit cards left and right. As if being broke isn’t enough, Busta also has an alleged sex tape with a tranny floating around. More info under the hood.

An insider says that Busta is living on his mom’s credit cards and doing any show he can get now. His credit card most recently got declined at a 5 star hotel, some months back when he was checking in.

Debt isn’t his only problem; Busta also has about 6-7 kids. A source says he doesn’t like to use condoms despite the fact that he has herpes which he doesn’t disclose up front or at all. Now, there is a sex tape floating around with him and a well-known tranny. He is on the top.

Seeing how we’ve never seen Busta in a real relationship at all since he’s been on the scene, there may be some truth to this one.
Lil' Scrappy Talks Move To New Label!
Lil Scrappy, who also left Warner Music Group for Def Jam/DTP, cited his ex-label as being too focused on pop acts.

"Before I even made the move I had just talked to [Warner Music Group CEO] Tom Whalley and told him I need to get off," Scrappy said in an interview. "Because basically, Warner Bros is a rock and roll label. So they didn't really understand what to do with me as of then. Even though I showed them two or three times, this is me Scrappy, this is how I move, young gangsta from Atlanta, I do what I do, try to stay outta trouble but you know how sh*t go. But he believed in me enough, he didn't want to hurt my career, so he let me go, after that I went through a couple of label situations, it wasn't looking too good.I always had this stop-and-go relationship with Chaka and Luda -- That was the best contract I ever signed. Just being a rapper or whatever, that's the best contract I ever signed."
Amerie Talks About Move To Def Jam!
R&B singer Amerie recently discussed her decision to leave Sony Music to join Rihanna and Rick Ross at Def Jam Records.

For Amerie, the frequently changing executives influenced her move to Island Def Jam.

"Leaving Columbia was two-fold, the reason I went to Def Jam was specifically because of the company -- their marketing and promotions team," Amerie explained in an interview. "I love what they're doing, but the other reason was L.A. Reid. L.A. Reid and I have crossed paths for years...It wasn't that I wasn't happy. I felt that the project could've gotten more support and more push on the side of marketing and promotions. The people on the team are awesome, but I think what's happening is that the company's been changing. The executives have been changing. It's been like a revolving door and whenever that happens you're so busy focusing on getting all the people necessary for the company that you don't have time to set a plan. And when you do set a plan, then people leave. So that's just what happened. I just felt that, this was a period of time in the company where they're going through so much turmoil, it just wasn't going to be good for the project I had. So I decided I wanted to leave. It went pretty well."

Mariah Carey Planning To Leave Def Jam?

This whole post is dedicated to Mariah Carey as there are three individual stories about the singer. First, Mariah's newest album, 'Memoirs'(which is one of my favorites this year) has been under performing and there may be plans to leave Def Jam Records. You don't say?

As a result of the lackluster reception of ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’, and Mariah Carey’s indignation with the handling of the record, sources close to That Grape Juice have informed us that the songbird may just be ready to take flight to a new label. There is reliable word that Carey has been at logger-heads with label-head LA Reid for several months now.

The 39-year old diva has been signed to the Island Def Jam Music Group since 2002. The terms of the singer’s deal entail a minimum of 3 albums for the grand total of 22.5 million dollars, with her being named a joint partner with the Universal Music Group. Carey’s first LP released under the agreement was 2002’s ‘Charmbracelet’ which was followed by the 6x platinum ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’, ‘E=MC²’ and ‘Memoirs…‘, which was released on September 29th 2009.

If Carey decides to leave IDJ, I will not be shocked. The promotional efforts behind ‘Memoirs…’ reflect less than half of the energy that the label placed into the ‘Emancipation’ project. Has anyone else noticed that she has barely taken any new promotional pictures for this record with the exception of her single covers and the album booklet? Add that to Carey’s criticism’s of ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ being chosen as a single in place of ‘H.A.T.E.U.’, and it’s easy to understand why she might be preparing to ditch the label.

It is no secret that several labels have been itching to sign Carey since she left Virgin Records in 2001. Clive Davis (Whitney Houston, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Hudson) at J Records, for instance, tried to get her to join his team. The real question is: should Carey leave IDJ, where would she fit in? I personally think that her best move would be to go back to Sony, where she would be able to get the attention and funding she deserves; a plausible option now that ex-husband Tommy Mottola is no longer with the company. Either way, with a rare talent like hers, she would be an invaluable addition to any label’s lineup.
Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon's Relationship Details Revealed!
When singer Mariah Carey wed America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon in 2008 at her house in the Bahamas, they promised to renew their vows every year. For their first anniversary they flew five friends to the One & Only Reethy Rah resort in the Maldives. As a gift, Cannon, 29, gave Carey, 40, three custom rings to match her original pink diamond engagement one, but that wasn't the only step up. "The first time, everybody was nervous. We didn't tell anybody, and I got there late, as usual," says the singer, who co-stars in Precious. "But the second time, on this sandbar in the ocean, everything was incredible." The couple are already planning next year's ceremony with even more friends at their new Bel-Air mansion.

Carey and Cannon (in a Balenciaga suit) chose to renew their vows in the Maldives because "we both love exotic places and traveling together," she says. The ceremony was presided over by a minister, under a floral arch. "It was romantic," Carey says.

Carey liked the neckline and simplicity of the Roberto Cavalli dress. She wore a sheer veil over her naturally curly hair. "At the last minute, I said, 'OK, I'll wear a veil,'" she says. "Why not? You're getting married!"

Usually I'd get a more elaborate cake," says Carey of the heart-adorned creation. "But this was a really nice one."

"I don't really eat cake, but I had a very small piece that night," says Carey. Cannon, however, is another story. "He can eat whatever he wants."
Mariah Carey Wins Acclaim For 'Precious' Role!
After being recognized for her voice, Grammy Award-winning singer Mariah Carey is set to be honored for her acting.

According to Palm Springs International Film Festival Award organizers, Carey will be honored at its annual awards gala January 5.

Recognizing Carey for her role in the box office success 'Precious,' officials say they're delighted to present Carey with the 'Breakthrough Performance Award'.

"We're delighted to be able to present the Breakthrough Performance Award to the extraordinary, very beautiful and versatile Mariah Carey, who, in a critically acclaimed role, completely transformed herself from a glamorous music icon to a forthright social worker for the role of Ms. Weiss in 'Precious," festival chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement.

Carey joins Jennifer Hudson, who was recognized in 2007.

Music Biz: Ashanti Headed To Reality TV!
Ashanti will be putting down the mic in favor of reality television in the near future.

According to sources close to the same team behind hit television series including Ugly Betty and It's On With Alexa Chung, Ashanti has signed on a development deal.

While terms of the deal have not been fully disclosed, sources say Ashanti will not just appear on a series or two, but will also grab the title of executive producer.

"Ashanti has entered into a new partnership with Reveille LLC as Executive Producer and will appear and oversee a new music based competition tv show," reports Ashantithisisme.com.

Confirming the news in a statement, Ashanti says she's excited and ready to start production.

"I’m excited about the opportunity to be working with Reveille LLC, one of the tv industry’s heavyweights,” said Ashanti. "...I can’t wait to begin production."

News of Ashanti's development deal comes months after a surprising departure from Irv Gotti's 'The Inc' Records, where Ashanti launched her music career over eight years ago.

Ashanti's last album, "The Declaration," was released in 2008.

Thank you all for the continued support. For those who celebrate Thanksgiving may you all have a good one. Talk to you all very very soon!

Nicki Minaj In The Studio!

Female rappers continue to be saluted this week and Nicki Minaj's entry into the game definitely breathes new life into female rap. Check the rapper out in the studio as she listens to her track, 'Mind On My Money'.

Sade is making music again. The soulful English group fronted by 50-year-old singer Sade Adu will release a new album Feb. 8, according to Epic Records. "Soldier of Love" will be the group's first studio album since 2000's "Lovers Rock." All five of Sade's studio albums have landed in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200, selling more than 50 million copies worldwide. Music Biz:
Day26 Parts Way With Bad Boy!

After becoming stars via Diddy's reality TV series Making The Band, Day26's run at Bad Boy Records has come to an end.

The group has left the label, according to a report from TheBoomBox.com, but say they are still a part of Diddy's extended family.

"Bad Boy is always our family, but we're with Atlantic right now," member Willie Taylor told the site.

Although they became stars on reality television, Day26 are now determined to prove that they have what it takes to make it on pure talent, rather than TV ratings.

"We really want to get people focused on the artistry, on the music," Taylor explained. "I think a lot of people lost it with the entertainment of the show. So now, we really want to show people what we're all about, that we do our thing whether its on stage, in the studio, writing and producing -- we do it all."

Day26 are currently in the studio working on their third group album.

Diddy had previously locked down a distribution deal with Atlantic Records for Bad Boy, but just months ago, he opted to sign with Interscope Records where he'll be releasing his next album, Last Train to Paris, with his new group Dirty Money comprised of himself, former Danity Kane member Dawn Richard and newcomer Kaleena.
Wow! I'm glad that Day26 has left Bad Boy. I think it is one of the best things they could have done and I think it will allow them to be more successful...if they can manage to get along.

Love Is Just A Touch Away

These music feeds just pop up in my head. All of a sudden 'touch' popped in my head and a list of songs followed. Of course I could sit here and name countless songs with 'touch' in the title. That is almost what happened. Basically the first few song that popped in my head ended up on this list. Check it out!

Touch, Omarion
Some of my favorite songs by Omarion are the ones produced by The Neptunes and 'Touch' is no exception. The video features Omarion doing plenty of twirling and gyrating to maximum effect.

Touch My Body, Ashanti
This is an unreleased track from Ashanti recorded around the 'Concrete Rose' album era(2004). The track also featured a verse from Lil' Kim on some versions. I'm not sure if that was official or not.

Touch My Body, Mariah Carey
Perhaps one of the most well known songs here with 'Touch' in the title. This song became Mariah's 18th number one hit!

Touch My Body, Missy Elliott
This song just leaked out online and the word on it already has been pretty mixed. I think the last thing we want to hear Missy singing or rapping about is her 'body'. No offense! We love Missy but no thanks!

Love Is Just A Touch Away, Freddie Jackson

This is one of my favorite songs from Freddie Jackson. I basically grew up listening to Freddie cause that was one of the many albums my mother played.

Touch Me Tease Me, Case featuring Mary J. Blige & Foxy Brown
This was the first song that made me really take notice to Foxy Brown. I swear I was so intrigued by her when I first saw her. No other artist has yet to make me feel like that upon being introduced to them.

Touch It, Monifah
Monifah got really raunchy on her second album, 'Mo'hogany'. This song sampled Laid Back's 'White Horse' which is a classic. A really fine song with an excellent sample.

When You Touch Me, Brandy
This is one of my many favorite songs on Brandy's 'Full Moon' album. I love the background vocals and Teddy Riley does a good job on the song. Ironically one of Ginuwine's songs on his new album, 'A Man's Thoughts' reminds me of this song.

Kelis Talks New Single, Album!

I am a fan of Kelis so I am looking forward to her new album. 'Acapella' didn't exactly blow me away but there is the hope for something better. Below you can read more about her new single and album.

"When she unleashed her new single, "Acapella," to the web today, one thing quickly became clear: Kelis is back--but not with a vengeance.

In fact, the uptempo cut is better suited for pop-locking than tire slashing, quite the opposite of what one might expect from a woman involved in a highly publicized divorce with Nas. But in an exclusive interview with VIBE in October--her first since becoming a mom--Kelis insisted that she's not singing scorned woman sorrows on her next LP.

"I think [fans are] expecting an angry record. And I'm not angry," Kelis says. "I'm actually curious to see how this goes over. People like angry records, they like the scorned women. But I'm not, and I don't feel that way. And I didn't feel that way when I was recording. The mood that I was in was so robust and full of life and new horizons. I hope people get that."

Instead of a disc full of "I hate you so much right now!" bawling, Kelis says her upcoming fifth studio album is greatly inspired by the birth of her first son, Knight. The dedication is apparent from the aforementioned "Acapella," which sounds like a techno remix of Lauryn Hill's "Zion."
Chris Brown Rolling Stone Review Excerpt!
Chris Brown has made a bland, occasionally obnoxious, pro forma R&B album. Brown mostly ignores the elephant in the room, churning out punchy dance-pop songs full of club-ready beats and Casanova gestures. He gloats about "the cars and the girls and the cribs." He promises ecstasy ("Gonna make you bloom like a flower," he tells the girl in "Take My Time"). There are also lost-love ballads, delivered by Brown in his nasal wisp of a singing voice. But as unfair as it sounds, the Rihanna incident has made it impossible to hear him in the same way; the sweetness that animated songs like 2008's "Forever" is now a hard sell.
Based on the samples I heard from Chris Brown's 'Graffiti' album, he can keep it. I'm simply not interested.

Whitney Houston A Hit At AMAS!
After an interval of 10 long years, Whitney Houston was back with a blast in the AMA. She casted her singing spell and the audience were enthralled in her magic again. The former model and now a singer/actress performed the song ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.’ Dressed like an angel in a long white dress, she still had that magic in her. She stole the show completely and she looked as if she was in regular touch of doing performances.

Not only did she win, but she also received the ‘International Artist Award’ for being tremendously famous all around the globe. The troubled life with her husband did not let her down on her talent. She has the record of winning maximum number of AMAs in single year, she has sold more than 170 million records of her albums have been sold worldwide, she is the only artist with seven consecutive multi-platinum albums and she also set the record of being #1 Billboard 100 Hits for seven consecutive times.

Now that’s what they call a living legend. She got a standing ovation from the crowd, when she was being awarded.

Fantasia Returns With New Album!

2010 is shaping up to be an interesting year in music. New albums from Kelis, Monica, and Fantasia are in the works. Read below to find out more about Fantasia's upcoming album.

American Idol winner Fantasia has announced that she will release her new single in January, followed by her third album in March.

The single release is believed to be coinciding with Fanty’s new VH1 reality show, which will document her struggles as a single mother and recording artist.

I loved Fantastia’s sophomore album (Hood Boy is my anthem) so I’m pretty pumped for this. I hope she throws in a little gospel flavour!

Expect production from Raphael Saadiq, Midi Mafia, Missy Elliott, Rock City, Eric Hudson, and Rich King was was responsible for Brandy’s jam “1st & Love”.

Rihanna Gets Rolling Stone Review!
Rihanna has transformed her sound and made one of the best pop records of the year.

With Rihanna, singing has never been in doubt. The question has always been personality: Is there a flesh-and-blood woman lurking beneath the big voice and model looks? On Rated R, she answers the question emphatically. There are a couple of engaging uptempo tunes. (The StarGate-produced "Rude Boy" is smutty fun, with a Caribbean bounce.) But this is an album with a grim theme: love gone horribly wrong. "What you did to me was a crime," Rihanna sings in the slow-boiling "Cold Case Love." Elsewhere, she is bent on vengeance. "I lick the gun when I'm done," she cries in "G4L," "because I know that revenge is sweet." The songs are etched in somber shades and minor chords, with Rihanna belting over synths and booming beats. The results are a musical match for the black-on-black CD cover — goth R&B.
I read that Amazon.com is selling Rihanna's album for $3.99! Now that is the price albums should be!

Usher Pushes Back Album!
The release date for Usher's new album, "Raymond v. Raymond," is being moved, according to a spokesperson at Jive Label Group. Recently announced as being Dec. 21, a new release date is still being determined. According to the spokesperson, the date change is to give "Raymond v. Raymond" the proper set-up time that it deserves. "This is a solid album that we believe in. We want to give it a proper launch." The album's lead single, "Papers," holds the No. 2 post this week on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Usher's last album, 2008's "Here I Stand," has sold 1.2 million units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. His biggest-selling album to date is 2004's "Confessions," which stands at 9.7 million units.

Queen Latiah Invites You To 'Come Into My House'!

I am paying tribute to all the glorious female rappers from over the years. One of rap's most dedicated and pioneering woman is Queen Latifah. She has since gone on to do bigger and badder things. Check out your Queen performing one of her many hits, 'Come Into My House'.

Mariah Performs 'I Want To Know What Love Is' On X Factor!

'X Factor' is like the UK version of 'American Idol'. Mariah is still performing 'I Want To Know..' despite it not taking off here in the states but maybe overseas it is. Check it out!

Kelis Sings An 'Acapella' On New Single!

Kelis is back! After the controversy involving Kelis' divorce, Kelis is ready to shift her attention back to music. Me personally I'm always excited when Kelis releases new music. Her first single, 'Acapella' is produced by Dave Guetta(worked with Kelly Rowland). It is the first single from her upcoming debut album on will.i.am/Interscope Records.

Music Biz:
Jennifer Lopez Speaks On Fall!

Jennifer Lopez is having a good laugh after her fall at last night’s American Music Awards.

J.Lo was performing “Louboutins,” the first single from her new album love? when she jumped and landed on her famous rear end. The malfunction aired live on the East Coast, but was edited out of the West Coast feed. Watch it here.

“Did I trip a little bit?” she joked with KIIS FM’s Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Monday. “I don’t even remember. I meant to do that. You should know me better than that. That was part of the controversy.”

Lopez got right back up after her tumble. “The measure of things is not what happens when you fall, it’s how you handle when you fall.” Spoken like a true champ.
I watched like an hour and a half of the American Music Awards and after that I was bored with the show. Of course when I decide to tune out, that's when all the stuff happens. JLO's fall was one thing I heard about not to mention Whitney Houston's performance.

Rah Digga Plays The Alter Ego Role With 'Dirty Harriet'

All female rappers have alter egos or other names they refer to themselves as. For instance Eve is known as 'the pitbull in a skirt'. In Rah Digga's case, she is known as 'Dirty Harriet'(a take on Harriet Tubman) which ironically was the name of her 2000 debut solo album.

Rah Digga first REALLY caught my attention for her single, 'Imperial'. In the video Rah Digga pranced around in her usual B-girl stance and pictures of Foxy Brown were in the background. Paying homage to Foxy in her video and on her debut was something that I liked.

On the album, Rah has a lot of punchlines and her delivery is sick. The way she says things and the way she says it makes this album a worthwhile listen. There are some entertaining moments in the form of some skits which I couldn't wait to share with an old friend of mine.

Rah Digga never truly got her chance to shine again after this album. Her second solo album on J Records never was released commercially. Eventually it leaked online and by that time I think a lot of interest was lost. I was hoping Rah would reignite her rap career but now she is focused on acting and beat making. Here's to hoping she might just return to rap!

MC Lyte Could 'Cold Rock A Party' In The 90s

Not to discredit the influence MC Lyte has had beyond the 90s(in TV and the occasional guest rap appearances), MC Lyte's reigned in the late 80s and early 90s. She hit a bit of a dry spell in the mid 90s but resurfaced in the late 90s with a string of hits including 'Cold Rock A Party'. Featuring Diddy(Puff Daddy at the time) and Missy Elliot(two of the hottest rappers at the time), she couldn't go wrong. 'Cold Rock A Party' appeared on MC Lyte's 1996 album, 'Bad A I Wanna B'.

Da Brat Gives 'Unrestricted' Access To Listeners!

As you all know I have been paying tribute to female rappers and it may not seem like I have as much(but check the sidebar margin for content).

If you didn't know Da Brat is the first female rapper to go platinum(sell a million copies) and in countless raps Da Brat made mention of this. Once her second album, 'Anuthatantrum' Da Brat lost a little of her spark. By the time she recorded 'Unrestricted' Da Brat realized that female rap had changed thanks in part to Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown's overt sexual images.

In various press releases and interviews, Da Brat knew that saying 'sex sells' was true and she was trying to go 'triple platinum'. Shortly before 'Unrestricted' was released, Da Brat showed up at the 'Soul Train Awards' donning a pink catsuit, long red straight hair, and a womanly image we had never seen from her. We knew then that Da Brat was ready to make some noise; sexually and musically.

Still keeping her gangsta image in tact, Da Brat released first single, 'That's What I'm Looking For' and followed it up with the sexual, 'What'chu Like' featuring Tyrese(which became one of my favorite songs of 2000). Elsewhere on 'Unrestricted' Da Brat brings on her sexual prowess but still shows her gangsta side. Da Brat's sexual image paid off as this album eventually went platinum.

Jennifer Lopez Is 'Fresh Out The Oven' For New Video Clip!

Even though Jennifer went out her way to do a video for this song(or buzz single), 'Fresh Out The Oven' is not the first single off of Jennifer Lopez's upcoming album. The song 'Louboutins'(which was also recorded by Brandy) will be her first single. Jennifer will perform at Sunday's 'American Music Awards' on ABC. Check your local listings for time!

Music Biz:
Janet Jackson Proves Big Ratings!

The spotlight was on Janet Jackson and ABC Wednesday.

According to ratings released Thursday, the ABC helmed television special "In The Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson" was the second most watched broadcast in the 10pm timeslot.

Second only to CSI: New York, Jackson's 'In The Spotlight' special was viewed by over 6.7 million people.

Speaking with Roberts, for the first time at length, about her brother, Michael Jackson's death, growing up a 'Jackson' and her return to music and film, Janet Jackson invited cameras into her Malibu, California home this month.

At one point referring to her late brother's death and Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson said "I think he is responsible".

Janet Jackson 'Make Me' Video!

Janet works it out in the new video to her single, 'Make Me' which is from her 'Number Ones' album in stores now.

It was recently reported(here) that Janet has signed to Interscope Records and will be working closely with Rodney Jerkins(boo!).

Mia X returns to the music scene with her new video, 'Get Da Paper'. It is definitely a welcome return for a female who had a minor hit streak in the late 90s. Mia X's former label and affiliation with No Limit produced numerous gold albums and appearances. Check out the new video!

Eminem Re-Releases 'Relapse' Album!

Multi-platinum hip-hop artist Eminem will release Relapse: Refill on December 21st, 2009, on Aftermath/Interscope Records. This re-release of Eminem’s chart-topping fifth studio album includes seven bonus tracks, including the single “Forever,” also featuring Drake, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne (previously found on the More Than A Game soundtrack), “Taking My Ball” (also released only with the DJ Hero video game), and five never-before-heard tracks.

“I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned,” Eminem says. “Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year.” Eminem has been busy in the studio creating even more new material since Relapse was released. “I got back in with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch. The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want the other stuff to be heard.”

One of the most anticipated albums of the year, the platinum-selling Relapse entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart at No. 1 in May 2009 and sold more than 618,000 domestic copies in the U.S. in its first week. Relapse is also the top selling hip-hop album of 2009. The first song to debut from the album, “Crack a Bottle,” was released in February and set a first-week record for digital sales at the time, while the first official single and video, “We Made You,” debuted in April. The best-selling hip-hop artist of the SoundScan era, Eminem has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide. His previous studio album, Encore, reached No. 1 and dominated the charts in late 2004. The Grammy-nominated disc was certified quadruple-platinum, generated four Top 40 Hot 100 hits, and has sold more than 11 million copies. In October 2008, Eminem published Eminem: The Way I Am, a compilation of thoughts, stories and memorabilia that entered the New York Times bestseller list at No. 11.

Em will be performing “Crack A Bottle” and “Forever” Sunday on the AMA’s!

Rihanna Flips Out On Driver and Entourage!

Now that Rihanna is officially a superstar, let the diva behavior begin.

With all her recent candid interviews about the Chris Brown attack, Rihanna was beginning to look like genuinely dignified and even a little bit demure.

But she's clearly had a temper bubbling under the surface... and waiting for her driver just sent her over the edge.

The 21-year-old singer was waiting for a car to pick her up after leaving a VIP club in London via that back door.

After a three minute wait, however, Rihanna was already pacing.

A source told the Daily Star: "She was with a massive entourage and one was on the phone to the driver, asking where he was.

"Suddenly Rihanna started shouting in the face of this guy, saying: 'Where the f*** is my car?'. After another minute, she squawked: 'I mean it guys, you've now got 30 seconds to get me my car or someone is losing their employment. I f***ing mean it, 10 seconds and I get nasty.'"

Luckily the car arrived before any "nastiness", though the source added: "The driver was so panicked, he almost drove the wrong way down Piccadilly Circus."
Janet Jackson Signs To Interscope Records!
As we’ve been reporting for the last few months, Janet Jackson has been on the brink of inking a new deal with A&M Records – the label she began her career on. Well, according to the New York Daily Post, the deal was finalised with the Interscope-housed label last month.

Interestingly, the label – on which Janet saw the release of 2 of the biggest albums of her career ‘Control’ and ‘Rhythm Nation’ – always had plans to release a Janet greatest hits LP – so say our sources, yet have gone all out in the way of promotion and having Janet herself board, since signing her.

According to the newspaper, A&M/Interscope wants ‘Number Ones’ to remind people how great Janet is. There’s the hoping it’ll wet the public’s appetite for Janet and pave the way for her new music.

Particularly amped for Janet’s new album is A&M/Interscope executive Jimmy Iovine (who janet was snapped out with last month), who has has enlisted hitmaker Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins to oversee the album.

“Jimmy has given the mandate to make this Janet record a success,” reports the paper. “He believes that he has the right team in place to finally take Janet back to the top of the music charts. It’s a top priority for the label”

As at writing, the album as a pencilled-in release window of 2nd-quarter 2010.
I hope Janet is working with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis as well. She can keep Rodney Jerkins; though he is responsible for her last hit, 'Feedback'. The songs he did on 'Discipline' were good. I just don't like his attitude.

Music Feed: Down With The Click

It's a written rule that a famed male rapper with a click have a female rapper. The click serves as an introduction to that said female rapper. The click's album and a variety of guest appearances set the stage for the female rapper's solo debut album. From here on out, most female rappers outgrow their clicks and succeeds the other lesser known members.

The female rappers listed below are mentioned alongside their perspective clicks or former clicks.

Rah Digga, Flipmode
Rah Digga is one of the few female rappers where most would agree that she can and will outshine most if not all male rappers. With the infamous Flipmode squad, Rah Digga could be heard on singles such as 'I Know What You Want' and 'Touch It'.

Nicki Minaj, Young Money
Nicki Minaj possesses a cartoonish and animated flow that makes just about every lyric she spits stand out; even some of the more silly ones. Young Money's own Lil' Wayne scooped Nicki Minaj up after viewing her on the rap DVD, 'The Come Up'.

Foxy Brown, The Firm
Once Foxy Brown got on, she hooked up with Nas, AZ, and Nature to form The Firm who were responsible for such hits as 'Firm Biz'.

Lil' Kim, Junior Mafia
One of the many examples of a female rapper outshining her male counterparts came in the form of Junior Mafia. Lil' Kim could be heard on the singles, "Need You Tonight' and 'Player's Anthem'.

Eve, Ruff Ryders
DMX picked the perfect female counterpart in Eve; someone who was strong and assertive and took no bull!

Charli Baltimore/Vita, Murder Inc.
Ja Rule and Irv Gotti was riding high with Murder Inc. when they added the infamous Charli Baltimore to their roster of talent. Fellow rapstress Vita was already signed to the label and both females were featured on the single, 'Down 4 U'.

Remy Ma, Terror Squad
Fat Joe saw the potential in Remy Ma as did many others. Remy Ma blessed such tracks as 'Lean Back' and 'Take You Home'.

Shawnna, Disturbing The Peace
It was on the Disturbing The Peace compilation where Shawnna's 'Gettin Some Head' song turned into a surprise hit prompting her second album, 'Block Music'.

Izzi Dunn Is Not Just About 'Tits & Ass'

I received an e-mail a few weeks ago regarding UK soul artist Izzi Dunn. Being that I have a Blackberry phone, my e-mail comes through my phone. I remember reading briefly about Izzi Dunn and the press release that came with the e-mail. I didn't pay it much attention as I was at work. A lot of the time I neglect the e-mail associated with this blog(please don't hold it against me) and for that I do apologize.

Now onto Izzi Dunn; her new album, 'Cries & Smiles' will be released next year. 'Tits & Ass' is available now and I like the song and what it stands for. The video is pretty cool too as you will see below.

Check out Izzi at a few of these websites!

Throwback Video: Lil' Kim featuring Mr. Cheeks - The Jump Off

If you haven't noticed I am currently paying tribute to female rappers. Expect throwback videos, polls, essays and more.

Lil' Kim scored a huge hit with 'The Jump Off'. The song was the lead single to her 2003 album, 'La Bella Mafia' which also featured 'Magic Stick' featuring 50 Cent.

Trina Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of 'That's My Attitude' Video Shoot!

For a minute there I was thinking 'That's My Attitude' was just a buzz single but I'm thinking it is her lead single for her new album, 'Amazin' in stores on March 30, 2010. Depending on how this single does, it may end up being a buzz single. I do like 'That's My Attitude' but I was expecting more for a first single. I just feel like if a single is a buzz single why shoot a video for it. Now if it ends up taking off, then that's reason to shoot a video. Anyway check out the footage!

Music Biz:
50 Cent's Album Sales Withheld Due To Leak!

50 Cent's album was originally scheduled to drop on Nov. 23, but it leaked to the Internet nearly a month before that, prompting his label, Interscope Records, to push its release forward. The digital version of "Before I Self Destruct" was rush-released to Apple's iTunes Store in the U.S. last Monday (Nov. 9), ahead of the CD's bow on Monday, Nov. 16.

Because of this situation, Interscope has requested that Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan uphold an existing policy regarding album Internet leaks. In a rule instituted nearly a year ago based on industry input, a label may ask Nielsen SoundScan to hold the digital sales count of an album for up to one week -- and for Billboard to delay charting that album -- when a leak situation has resulted in a digital album beating its physical counterpart to market. As a result of this rule, "Before I Self Destruct's" first-week digital sales will be added to its overall retail sum for the week ending Nov. 22 and the album will debut on next week's chart.

Billboard, along with Nielsen SoundScan, will review the merit of maintaining this rule.

Music Feed: New York State Of Mind

Have you ever noticed that the majority of musicians are from New York? If they aren't from New York, they are from California. Makes sense though. The states of New York and California are huge and are populated by many citizens.

Not only are singers bred from New York so are a bevy of rappers; namely female rappers. The female rappers listed below are all from New York City.

Foxy Brown
No female in rap is more explicit than Foxy Brown! Though it can be debated that Lil' Kim is just as nasty if not nastier, Foxy always got the heat when it came to explicit lyrics.

Lil' Kim
Alongside Foxy Brown, Lil' Kim repped the city of New York with a self assured delivery that many would come to emulate. Not only that; Kim's sometimes bizarre style and even more bizarre looks are now industry legend.

Nicki Minaj
She is slowly becoming the new 'it' girl of rap. Three successful and well-received mixtapes('Playtime Is Over', 'Sucka Free', and 'Beam Me Up Scotty')later, Nicki Minaj is currently setting up her 2010 debut album. Nicki is definitely a star to watch!

MC Lyte
Out of all the old school female rappers(aside from Queen Latifah), MC Lyte is the most relevant. You can hear her voice commentate many award shows. She blesses us with an album feature every now and then. She has even appeared on countless TV shows throughout the years making sure no one forgets the brand 'MC Lyte'.

Roxanne Shante'
Not as well known as some of the above mentioned female rappers, Roxanne Shante earned her place in the industry by dissing other female rappers(including Salt N Pepa and MC Lyte). She also was a noted freestyler who could rhyme with the best of them.

Angie Martinez

Radio DJ turned rapper Angie Martinez scored herself a few minor hits in the early 00s. Once her rap career cooled off, Angie still had radio to fall back on.

Chris Brown 'Graffiti' Album Preview!

With Chris Brown and Rihanna dropping new albums weeks apart, the stage is already set! Who will have to the hottest album? Who will sale more?

Being that Rihanna's 'Rated R' album has already leaked, the reaction I've read so far regarding that has been mostly positive. Now you can here some snippets from Chris Brown's 'Graffiti' album in stores December 8.

Toni Braxton Speaks On Divorce!
SINGER TONI Braxton has split from her husband Keri Lewis after eight years of marriage.

The Unbreak My Heart hitmaker has two sons with her spouse, and she revealed in an exclusive interview with The Voice that she's not entirely sure why the marriage broke down.

"I'm newly separated - no-one really knows what went wrong," Braxton said. "My husband and I are still cool - we get along great. But that could become challenging. If things go further, you may read about some things… things will have to be split and all of that."

However, the US songstress is hopeful that the split won't become a messy battle that's played out in the public eye.

"Oh, it'll nothing like that," she said. "We were friends for years before we started dating and we've been married for almost nine years. I'm a little sad about it and I can't see anything down the line because it's all so new. We're sorting different things right now."

Braxton has been hit by a string of personal dramas in recent times. In 2008, she was diagnosed with the heart condition, microvascular angina, which forced her to scrap a series of concerts in Las Vegas. She has since been facing financial difficulties and is currently embroiled in a legal battle with her insurance company, as the firm has refused to pay out on the axed shows. But Braxton is confident that she won't be left short.

"Be it the underwriter of the insurance company, someone is going to pay me," she insists. "I spent thousands of dollars on insurance and somebody needs to pay me my money!"

Mario's 'Stranded' Single Cover!

Mario's 'D.N.A.' is one of the few albums I actually bought this year. One of my favorite songs from the album is 'Stranded' which has been chosen as Mario's third single. Second single, 'Thinkin About You' is on the charts but not exactly setting the charts on fire like 'Break Up' did. Let's hope 'Stranded' can do that because I'm sure this is Mario's last chance before they cut all promotion off with this album.

Mariah Carey Interview On David Letterman!

Earlier in the week I showed you Mariah's singer performance on 'David Letterman' now check out the interview where she talks about new movie 'Precious', Eminem, and marriage to Nick Cannon.

Clipse, Cam'ron Back By 'Popular Demand'!

The video looks pretty cheap and probably a whole lot of money wasn't dished out for it but who says all videos have to be big budget anyway? The new album from Clipse 'Til The Casket Drops' will be in stores December 8 or 15. Check back later and I will possibly make a clarification once I find out. After this video you can catch an exclusive behind the scenes footage of 'Popular Demand'.

Beyonce, Lady Gaga Shows Us Their 'Video Phone'!

The video for Beyonce and Lady GaGa's 'Video Phone' is finally here and it is a very colorful video. It shows Beyonce in a variety of looks that actually work for her. Looking at the video I didn't realize how long and pointed Lady GaGa's nose was.

Music Biz:
Gucci Mane Heads To Jail!

The Milwaukee Hip-Hop scene has love for Gucci Mane, no doubt. So it is unfortunate to have to report this turn of events, especially since Gucci has been having a good end of the year for the most part. The bad news is, the rapper is on his way back to prison. He was sentenced to a year or about six months with good behavior. The reason he is headed back to the slammer is due to a probation violation. He is to begin serving time immediately according to reports.

This incident could not have happened at a worse time for Gucci, as the rapper was working on promoting his new album. The album oddly enough is titled, The State Vs. Radric Davis and was due out around December 8, 2009. There has been no word on if that will change due to the current circumstances or not. The album boasts a strong list of guest appearances including: Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Keyshia Cole, Rick Ross, and many more.

Gucci's sentence makes for his second round with trouble as of late. As it comes just after his controversy and concert cancellations with a few colleges just last month. Gucci is no stranger to the system though. He was in some legal trouble back in 2006 for a murder charge and at one point also did time for assaulting a nightclub owner with a pool cue. No further information is available at the moment, should anything come up, I'll do an update.

If you would like to support Gucci, buy a special t-shirt here. Also, you can get the latest Gucci Mane music to hold you over til the album drops, here. And check out the latest Gucci Mane video for his recent hit song, "Wasted."

Female Rappers Greatest Hits!

Hits from female rappers are few and far between unless your talking Missy Elliott who has had a long string of hits. The songs here are some of the biggest hits by female rappers. Check them out!

Not Tonight, Lil' Kim featuring Angie Martinez, Missy Elliott, Da Brat, and Left Eye
I don't which was more exciting; the actual track or the video which featured a variety of women and not those just synonymous with rap.

I'll Be, Foxy Brown featuring Jay-Z
Foxy Brown scored one of her biggest hits by sampling Rene & Angela's 'I'll Be Good' track.

I Can't Stand The Rain, Missy Elliott
Missy Elliott broke new ground with this video and it set the stage for future videos that would be held in high regards.

Let Me Blow Your Mind, Eve featuring Gwen Stefani
This was one of the obvious hit singles from Eve's 'Scorpion' album. We also were introduced to Gwen Stefani's more urban side which became prevalent in future songs by her.

Here We Go, Trina featuring Kelly Rowland
Trina scored a surprise hit with the take on Force MD's 'Tender Love' track. The song; was very catchy and the video wasn't bad either.

Janet Jackson Previews 'Make Me' Video!

Looks like 'Make Me' will be a nice video but too bad the single is stalling on radio and the charts. It really is classic Janet and gives me an early 90s vibe. Janet's 'Number Ones' album will be in stores tomorrow, November 17.

Alicia Keys 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart' Video!

The Flowers That You Gave To Me

All the songs listed below have one thing in common; flowers. Songs about flowers or songs that are metaphors for flowers are here. Check it out!

The Flowers, Amerie
This is an emotional mid-tempo ballad that appears on Amerie's newest album, "In Love & War" in stores now.

Flower, Jody Watley
This was the title track from Jody Watley's 1998 unreleased debut album.

Flower, Jaguar Wright
On her "Divorcing Neo 2 Marry Soul" album, Jaguar Wright dedicated this emotional cut to her child.

Black Roses, Trey Songz
'Black Roses' usually signal death or hopelessness and in this case Trey pays tribute to a mournful lover.

A Dozen Roses, Monica
This is probably one of my favorite songs from this list. I know Monica got a lot of flack from this album and this song but it was pretty good in my opinion.

Roses, Mary J. Blige
You can always count on Mary J. to tell it like it is and in this case 'Roses' being that everything is not always as good as it seems.

Ridin In The Car With Boys

All the songs here have one thing in common. They all deal with cars or are associated with cars. The-Dream sang about 'Fast Car' and Mya was 'Ridin' looking around for a cheating lover. They are the songs that made us appreciate cars even more. Check them out!

Fast Car, The-Dream
This was one of my favorite songs on The-Dream's debut album(which for some reason I can't think of the name right now). Anyway the beat was very fast and the melody very catchy. Even my little niece had made a dance step to the song.

Pink Cadillac, Natalie Cole
I really don't know this song too much. I even included in an earlier 'music feed' regarding the use of colors in songs. This is one of Natalie's biggest hits though.

Ridin', Mya
Cheating lovers beware. This is what your girl is doing when your out cheating and I actually know a few girls who have done this.

Ridin' Spinners, Three 6 Mafia
This is one of my favorite songs from Three 6 Mafia! The song features the forgotten Lil' Flip and it is very catchy as well.

Cruise Control, Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey gave us a nice little Caribbean vibe with this cut from her "E=MC2" album which featured Damian Marley and Mariah donning a little accent(which was pretty funny to me).

Mariah Carey Performs 'H.A.T.E.U.' Live On David Letterman!

Mariah performs her newest single, the fan-favorite "H.A.T.E.U." which if you don't know means Having A Typical Emotional Upset. The song in my opinion is a very difficult song to sing live and Mariah struggles herself a little bit with this one. In the studio, she can do as many takes as she likes and it sounds like its a breeze. When performing live that's when we get to see the real vocalist and the mistakes and so forth. I liked the performance though and I tend to like singers with a little bit of scratchiness to their voice. Check it out!

Throwback Video: Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell - Let's Get Blown

I was just watching Snoop's newest video for "Gangsta Luv" and it made me think of some other songs I like from Snoop. "Let's Get Blown" is one of those songs and below you can check out the video.

Rihanna Goes Behind The Scenes Of New Album Photoshoot!

Looking hot as ever and very much the diva she has come to be, Rihanna goes behind the scenes as she shoots photos for new album, 'Rated R'. For some reason that 'R' scares me. It makes me think those devil rumors are true.

Mariah Carey Releases 'I Want To Know What Love Is' Video!

After numerous delays, Mariah finally releases the video for "I Want To Know What Love Is". Word is though that Mariah and her camp didn't like the video and nixed it. I think after the song failed at radio, suddenly they didn't like the video. Now Mariah has moved on to "H.A.T.E.U." which she should of done in the first place.

Singer Omarion hit up New York’s Power 105fm Morning Show with Ed Lover and Free this morning and discussed his upcoming projects and why he would NEVER get back with B2K among other things. Of course, with Omarion being a good friend of Chris Brown’s, he offered his thoughts on the Rihanna situation:

Omarion: It’s one of those situations that I hope some positivity comes out of it because I think it’s so unfortunate and love will really make you do some crazy things.

Ed Lover: Since Breezy is your man, why do you think he is being so protective of [Rihanna] when it doesn’t seem to be reciprocated on the other side?

Omarion: I think it’s because I know he understands what happened. That’s one thing that he told me “As a man, the situation that happened shouldn’t have happened so I’m not going to make excuses for it. I’m going to take responsibility and whatever it is, is whatever it is. Because I feel the way you feel.

Ed Lover: You told him “Tell Everbody your side of the story”?

Omarion: Yea and he was like “Nah, I’m a man, I made that mistake and I’ll take that with stride”…and I respect that.

Mariah Carey Talks Unflattering Pictures!

It looks like the Mariah Carey isn’t too happy about some unflattering pictures that leaked of her in a bikini on the set of the “H.A.T.E.U.” music video recently, with the notoriously OTT diva freaking out during a recent press conference when an Italian journalist questioned her about the photo’s.

“I haven’t even seen those. Why can’t people show me the images prior to me going to a press conference? I don’t know and neither do you. Okay, what was the question? I didn’t see them yet so maybe it’s not me. I’m not claiming them yet. I don’t know them. Haven’t seen them, can’t comment. I got to go online and look at the pictures first and then I’ll call you and let you know… Oh they are? The lighting was kind of I don’t know. It was very bright. Was it a lot of sunlight? What was it? Now I’m curious. Now you’re making me ask the questions at the press conference. Was it okay? They were, right?”

Throwback Video: Foxy Brown featuring Dru Hill - Big Bad Mama

Foxy Brown was riding high when she released, "Big Bad Mama" from the 1997 movie, "How To Be A Player" starring Bill Bellamy. Def Jam was responsible for a lot of soundtracks during the late 90s and you could always count on Foxy to appear on them(as long as her relationship with Def Jam was straight). Over the years Foxy's relationship with Def Jam deteriorated and she eventually was released from the label in 2003.

Rihanna Releases 'Russian Roulette' Video!

I haven't really had a chance to view it myself but it looks pretty hot and epic. For some reason, the beginning of the video reminds me of "Basic Instinct" with that room. Rihanna has definitely been tapping into her inner Sharon Stone especially during the "20/20" interview.
