A Representative for Lil Kim has dismissed recent reports that claim the rapper wanted a Latina actress to play her in the movie Notorious.Reports stated that Lil Kim was unhappy with Naturi Naughton's portrayal of her in the movie Notorious and that she really wanted Christina Milian to play the role. Lil Kim is currently in the recording studio working on a new album, which she has said will introduce the world to a “whole new style.”

Lil' Kim has gotten so much press over this movie mainly cause of her complaints for her portrayal. I'm frankly tired of hearing her complain about it. I think its time to get over it, and just put out new music.

D. Woods Preps Solo Debut!

Former Danity Kane star D. Woods says she's not stressing Diddy's decision to cut her from the Platinum-selling group last fall.Much like her ousted Danity Kane friend Aubrey O'Day, D. Woods says fans will hear new music from her this year, the first of which will be a mixtape series. Admitting that she's been working on several projects since October, including a mixtape series titled "Independence Day," Wood says "the first will drop in February".

I'm still wondering who will be the first member to actually release music or a solo album? Aubrey is supposedly working on a solo debut. Dawn is rumored to have a solo deal in the works or Bad Boy. So we'll see.

Now that Danity Kane are no longer, another female group; The Cheetah Girls are no longer either. After their current tour wraps up, the group plans to disband. Starting out as 3LW and scoring a few minor hits, members Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams starred in Disney's "The Cheetah Girls". After the success of that endeavor, the group decided to continue as "The Cheetah Girls" and record under the moniker professionally.

I remember when my grandmother bought this album. I would sit and listen to it, and I found myself liking it. "Private Dancer" just happens to be one of my favorite tracks from the set as well.

Keyshia Cole Graces New Vibe Magazine Cover

As far as R&B females are concerned you can't get any hotter than Ms. Keyshia Cole. The singer has three successful albums and a hit BET reality show, "The Way It Is". The cover reminds me somewhat of Mary J. Blige. Mary J. Blige has graced Vibe magazine numerous times, and I wouldn't be surprised if Keyshia comes pretty close to a record number of covers herself. I will say this is one of Vibe's better covers. Over the last few months and years, the covers don't usually grab my attention nor does the artist on it. I used to remember when Vibe was like the black Rolling Stone(magazine). The magazine was much wider in width and longer in height. The covers were controversial as was the stories that filled the pages. Those were the days!

I'm glad Kizzy finally came to her senses. I think this is something she should of done a long time ago. I am just glad she finally did it though! I think she deserves so much more success than she has received thus far.

Due to the global economic crisis Janet Jackson has reportedly scrapped her anticipated Japan tour.In a statement released Monday, Jackson's team said the economic slowdown no longer made the tour profitable."Due to the impact of the global economic crisis, she has been obliged to delay her tour," says Kyodo Yokohama.According to Yokohama, tickets, which started at 9,800 yen (110 dollars) each, will be refunded.Jackson had been due to perform on February 14 and 15 at a major concert venue in the Tokyo suburb of Saitama. Beyonce finally playing someone other than a singer in a movie? Say it isn't so! Well it is. On April 24 Beyonce will star alongside Idris Elba of "Daddy's Little Girls" fame in "Obsessed". The movie which co-stars Ali Larter of "Heroes" fame plays a temp who becomes obsessed with Elba's character. The movie is being tauted as the new millennium version of "Fatal Attraction". While the plot isn't exactly original, the trailer looks pretty decent. Will you being going to see this?

Lil' Wayne Rebirths On New Album!

Lil Wayne announced the official release date and title of his next album: Rebirth is due April 7 — and his publicist has confirmed to MTV News that it will be a rock album. Of course, Wayne has been rocking with a guitar for some time now. The first single is called "Prom Queen" and will debut on the Internet right after a live stream of his concert in San Diego on January 27. The show will be available for stream on MySpace.com.

It looks like we'll be seeing a bit of album title deja vu because Bobby Valentino's newest album is also called, "Rebirth". This will be interesting to see if either of these two titles will change. Unlike Bobby V, Lil' Wayne actually has a set release date for his album too. I'm a little surprised though to see Lil' Wayne following up "The Carter 3" so fast.

Plies, Trina Plan New Albums!

Miami-based record label Slip-N-Slide Records will release three major albums this year along with albums from a handful of newcomer's. Although release dates have not yet been set, Plies, Trina, and Rick Ross are all releasing albums some time this year. All three artists released albums last year, with Rick Ross' album Trilla being the most successful, as far as sales are concerned.

I think Plies needs to chill for a little after this album. I am looking forward to the new Trina album though I smell a few push backs. She is notorious for pushing her album back.

Ciara Moves Forward With New Single

After "Go Girl" failed to take radio by storm, Ciara is trying again with the "If You Don't Know My By Now" sampled, "Never Ever" featuring Young Jeezy. The song was produced by pal Polow Da Don. Polow recently went on record to describe his chemistry with Ciara to the working relationship of Aaliyah and Timbaland. Surprising right? Now I see why they keep him from doing interviews. He is always saying something crazy which makes him look stupid in the end. Ciara's oft-delayed, "Fantasy Ride" album is set for release this March. Apparently the singer did some major revamping to the album since half the album, if not all leaked late last year. I think next time though she should keep her agenda hidden so other artists won't go stealing her ideas.

Kanye West has responded to a lot of the insults made by rival 50 Cent over the past few months. West claims that a lot of the insults affect him personally. It is safe to assume that Kanye is just a sensitive person. It is pretty evident too whenever he doesn't win an award when he feels he's truly accepting of. Anyway I can understand how he feels though. 50 Cent and his gimmicks are getting old.

Speaking of Pleasure P, he will release his debut solo album, "The Introduction of Marcus Cooper"(his real name) in stores May 19. The album is led by the singles "Did You Wrong" and the recently shot-video, "Boyfriend #2". I know my friends are crazy about Pleasure P and I admit I do like some of his solo songs. I will be checking for his solo album when it is released.

"Him Vs. Them" is the first single from American Idol winner and R&B singer Fantasia's third untitled sophomore album. The song was written by Tank, co-written by herself and produced by Midi Mafia, also the producers behind her previous hit "When I See You". Fantasia describes this as a future ladies anthem, "It's basically about making choices in a relationship, choosing between your man, which is him, and your friends which is them. Them coming back to you telling you stories about him cheating and he's telling you another saying he's not. Album Spotlight: Aaliyah - Aaliyah

In honor of Aaliyah's 30th birthday(January 16), I bring to you a special album spotlight on Aaliyah's last full-length album, "Aaliyah". The summer of 2001 was a year that was full of awesome albums. "Aaliyah" was one of them! It took a minute before the album actually grew on me. The album was so different from anything Aaliyah did. It also didn't sound like anything that was out at the time. Singer/songwriter the late Static Major was responsible for writing the bulk of the album's material. His unique and poetic style of songwriting is what truly makes this album a gem. The album was led off by the Timbaland-assisted single, "We Need A Resolution". The video found Aaliyah cozying up rather comfortable to a huge snake. The album's second single, "Rock The Boat" was a Caribbean-flavored mid tempo groove. The song exhibited a side of Aaliyah we never heard or saw. "More Than A Woman" followed as did "I Care 4 U" which led a greatest hits-esque album, "I Care 4 U" that celebrated Aaliyah's legacy.

I remember a lot of people not liking the "Aaliyah" album right away. When she passed, the album shot to the top of the charts and later became an instant favorite. It was funny how the album was pretty much tanking on the charts. Once she died, her album shot up the charts. People failed to realize how great an album was until Aaliyah's untimely death.

Album Spotlight: Foxy Brown - Broken Silence

"Broken Silence" was Foxy Brown's third album and her most critically acclaimed. It was also her critically acclaimed status that she rapped about in lead single, "Oh Yeah". The track featured longtime boyfriend Spragga Benz. It would be the first of many collaborations between the fiery couple. Prior to this albums release Foxy had been in the center of the rumor mill. There had been numerous altercations and rumors of substance abuse. "Broken Silence" was meant to silence all the doubters and let Foxy tell her side of the story. None of the singles here really hit hard, chart wise, but "Candy" featuring Kelis was an instant favorite. The song went on to reach #10 on the Rap charts and could be heard in many movies including "Friday After Next". Afterwards Foxy released a video to her single, "Tables Will Turn" which featured Baby Cham. The video was funded out of Foxy's own pocket after Def Jam bailed on the project.

"Broken Silence" went on to go gold and would be Foxy's last album for the Def Jam label. Foxy's shelved album, "Ill Na Na 2: The Fever" was supposed to be released but never saw the light of day. The album eventually leaked online. Many hardcore fans consider "Broken Silence" to be Foxy's best work thus far. With the oft-delayed, "Black Roses" album lingering in record label limbo, everyone can sit back and enjoy this masterpiece of an album.

The clip, which features Ashanti, reworks the 1987 R&B classic "Two Occasions." "It's a hell of a record — an old Babyface sample. ... Actually, it was the Deel that first used it; Babyface used it after that. It's one of those records that people in the radio world considered a 'first-listen record.' It's me being me. It's a female-driven record to a certain extent, but it's me speaking to the goons as usual. I think that chemistry is something that always works for me. A lot of stations already jumped out and are banging the record."

Mary J. Blige Party Brings Out the Celebs!

MARY J. Blige got quite the shock on her 38th birthday. The singer's manager and husband, Kendu Isaacs, invited Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Russell Simmons, Busta Rhymes and embattled Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury to toast Blige at an intimate surprise party at Mr. West Lounge on Saturday night. The 70 guests drank champagne and vodka and ate a cake so large that it had to be carried out by two people.

Album Spotlight: Blu Cantrell - Bittersweet

Blu Cantrell burst onto the scene in 2001 with her debut, "So Blu". The critically acclaimed album spawned the hit single, "Hit 'Em Up Style(Oops)". A year later Blu was set to release her sophomore album, "Bittersweet". Lead single, "Breathe" didn't exactly take off in the states. Fortunately her label at the time, Arista Records revamped the single and added Sean Paul to it. Unfortunately Sean Paul couldn't save the Dr. Dre-sampled song. Fortunately though for Cantrell, she found success with the single overseas. Subsequent singles including the fiery "Make Me Wanna Scream" were received well. The album, "Bittersweet" also did well. The US wasn't as receptive to Blu's melancholy, overwrought, and sometimes trashy appeal. Despite people's perception of Blu many will agree she is an excellent singer.

With the new Blu Cantrell song leaking, I was poised to do an album spotlight on "Bittersweet". It was an album that took a minute to grow on me. Once it did I realize this album is for the grown and sexy. The album starts off with the sentimental, "I Love You" which is one of my favorite songs on the album. I was surprised when I was in the gym working out one day and the song came on. How weird is that? The powerful ballad, "Sleep In The Middle" was scheduled to be the albums second single. When "Breathe" didn't take off in the US, Arista stopped all promotion on the album. Meanwhile Blu headed overseas where the album was a success and became a huge star there. Check out an exclusive song from Blu that you may or may not have heard!

This song was intended for "Bittersweet" but Blu pulled it at the last minute. She felt it didn't fit in with the rest of the album. True enough! I do love it though!



The song eventually surfaced on Blu's "L.A. to LO(London)" mixtape. You can also hear the song on Blu's "Bittersweet" Special Edition album that included a DVD with a racy interview with gossip queen Wendy Williams!

No songwriter in the music industry can conjure up controversy the way Ne-Yo does. Ever since he stepped on the scene with his debut, "In My Own Words", Ne-Yo has been a target for controversy. Whether he is denying rumors of his sexuality or beefing with rappers, Ne-Yo's outspoken candor keeps him on the minds of many.

I take a look at some of Ne-Yo's most famous and well-known feuds. I am sure there are more where this list came from. I only compiled the list of artists that immediately came to mind.

Chris Brown
Lil' Wayne's "A Milli" was such a big hit in the summer of '08 that everybody in R&B/Hip-Hop jumped on a remix of the song. Apparently Ne-Yo's own version was said to be a swipe at Chris Brown. I never heard the track but Ne-Yo did deny the rumors, I think.

Trey Songz
Ne-Yo called out Trey Songz when the racy singer charged fans to take pictures with him. The two singers have since deaded their beef.

Jim Jones
The outspoken rapper called out Ne-Yo and supposedly stomped him and his rumored lover out. Jim Jones later turned himself in on some undisclosed charges.

Beyonce
Ne-Yo cried foul when Beyonce took credit for writing, "Irreplaceable" a hit that Ne-Yo wrote; not Beyonce. I always wondered if this ever affected his relationship with Jay-Z.

Bobby Valentino
Former labelmate Bobby Valentino expressed his disdain for Def Jam and all the attention they were giving Ne-Yo. I have never heard Ne-Yo publicly address this.

Yung Berg
Ne-Yo called out Yung Berg's ignorant antics and threatened to smack him over live radio. I definitely don't blame Ne-Yo for making this comment. I was very glad that he did.

Bad Boy recording stars Day 26 are selecting the month of green -- March -- for the release of their sophomore album.The as-yet-untitled project follows the R&B group's hit self-titled debut that spawned the hit singles "Since You've Been Gone" and "Got Me Going".While the group has been somewhat mum on the project, songwriter/producer Bryan Michael Cox told Singersroom that he's definitely on board for the group's new album.Day 26's sophomore album is set for release March 31.

I'm wondering how much longer will Day 26 be together. I'm not wishing any bad karma on anybody. I'm just saying with Bad Boy's track record you never know what to expect.

Reports have since been circulated that Janet Jackson is pissed with Beyonce, but yesterday Solange spoke up in defense of her sister. During a dinner with friends, one source claims that Solange almost laughed when the subject was brought up saying, “What ever. Beyonce ain’t scared of Janet. All my sister did was tell the truth…she wasn’t trying to hurt nobody”. Some critics believe this is just a publicity stunt to get Janet back in the public eye, but we’re told that the two divas won’t be talking anytime soon.

I tend to admire outspoken artists but sometimes Solange can come off very harsh and abrasive. I guess she gives new meaning to the term "telling it like it is".

R&B crooner Usher Raymond has teamed once again with super producer Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes for his upcoming 6th album on LaFace / Zomba Records. The pair previously collaborated on hit joints such as “You Don’t Have To Call” and “Sweet Lies” featuring Vanessa Marquez.

R&B can be very trendy. It's all about the hot producer of the moment. Luckily for most producers they can survive the turnover of trends and still manage to crank out hits every once in awhile.

D'Angelo Prepping New Album!

D'Angelo is currently putting the finishing touches on his eagerly anticipated new album at a studio in Hollywood, CA. The platinum selling R&B-soul singer-songwriter is scheduled to release his new studio album in spring 2009 through the RCA Music Group, a unit of Sony Music Entertainment, Inc. Untitled (How Does It Feel).

It's good that D'Angelo is finally releasing a new album after all these years. It's a shame he let his self go the way he did. But hey it does happen. You know what they say about this business, "sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll".
