Ludacris Teams Up With Trojan Magnum Condoms!

Just in time with the release of Ludacris' new album; "Battle Of The Sexes"; Ludacris teams up with Trojan Magnum condoms. Given the free promotion Magnum gets from rappers; why not and I'm not too surprised to see an artist like Ludacris team up with them anyway. Read more below about Ludacris as well as stories on Aretha Franklin's tax troubles and Usher becoming a father again!

Condom brand Trojan Magnum is using hip hop – by way of Ludacris – to promote its new nationwide campaign celebrating men who choose Magnum as their primary protection of choice.

The Magnum Live Large Project encourages safe sex by having participants write and record rhymes about their use of Magnums, Trojan’s largest line of condoms.

Contestants can visit MagnumLiveLarge.com to download a base track to which they can record their own Magnum-inspired lyrics. Visitors will vote for their favorite and a panel of judges, including Ludacris, will pick the top ten based on creativity, melody, music, lyrics and entertainment value.

The winner will get $5,000, as well as having their creation played on national radio and winning a trip to a hip-hop festival in Atlanta on June 19. The winner will also be brought on-stage during one of Ludacris’ shows.
Aretha Franklin In Tax Trouble!
Less than two years after recovering from a $190,000 delinquent tax bill, and narrowly avoiding foreclosure of her mansion overlooking the Detroit Golf Club, Aretha Franklin has new tax problems.

The state of Michigan filed a lien against the "Queen of Soul" last month accusing her of owing more than $11,000 in delinquent income taxes. The address on the lien is Franklin's $1.8 million home in Bloomfield Hills.

It is the latest in a string of late payments and debt that drew headlines two years ago. Franklin paid off those debts and took her lien-free pipes -- and hat -- to President Obama's inauguration last year.

But Franklin also owes 2009 delinquent taxes of $33,729 on her Bloomfield Hills home, according to the Oakland County Treasurer's Office. If unpaid, she would face foreclosure in 2012.
What's owed

• The state of Michigan filed an $11,076 lien against Franklin on March 23 with the Oakland County Register of Deeds. According to the lien, the income taxes were assessed Dec. 11, 2009.
Her side

Franklin said she unintentionally neglected to pay the tax bill.

"It is always my intentions to pay my taxes on time and generally and most times I always do," she said. "However, I have been traveling a lot lately and in concert and sometimes when you're traveling it becomes a little difficult. It will be taken care of as soon as I return home."
Usher To Become A Father Again?
Usher may become a father again and less than a year after divorcing Tameka Foster -- a husband again !

Sources say the "OMG" singer is slated to marry former Def Jam executive Grace Miguel, this after reportedly impregnating her while she was still married!

While Usher and Tameka Foster officially divorced in November, they were still legally married (and together) when Usher started dating Miguel, who is now said to be three months pregnant.

Throwback Video: Toni Braxton - Breathe Again

Toni Braxton had multiple hit singles from her 1993 self-titled debut album and "Breathe Again" is just one of many. Listening to this song just brought back a lot of memories for me. Check it out!

Album Spotlight: Toni Braxton - More Than A Woman

Toni Braxton's "More Than A Woman" is one of her least successful albums but it doesn't mean that the material here is not good. In fact Toni Braxton remains very consistent on this album as she is on any other album of hers.

"More Than A Woman" was released in late 2002 and went gold primarily off of Toni's name alone. The singles here weren't successful but still strong songs like the first single; "Hit The Freeway" featuring Loon and produced by The Neptunes. Toni would later denounce this album since it was not as successful as her others. But Toni did work with a lot of outside producers on this album like Rodney Jerkins[on "Do You Remember When"] and Irv Gotti[on "Me & My Boyfriend].

The album opens up strong with "Let Me Show You The Way(Out)" which to me should of been a single. Mannie Fresh shows up on the kiss off; "Give It Back"(which is a personal favorite). Andrea Martin[who co-wrote Melanie Fiona's "It Kills Me"] co-wrote "A Better Man" which was also a strong single contender. I think this is where this album went wrong in terms of sales. The singles that were picked were all wrong in my opinion.

Brandy co-wrote the song "Always" and Babyface produced "And I Love You". You see the variety of songwriters and collaborators here and on first look; you would think it would be overbearing but it actually works out. The songwriters and producers here present Toni with different soundscapes we're not used to hearing her on and you can definitely attest to this being Toni's most riskiest album to date.

Monica Talks About Her So-Called Stank Attitude!

Monica was caught completely off guard when asked about her notorious stank attitude. Obviously Monica never knew such a reputation existed but I definitely always remembered reading and hearing Monica had a really bad attitude but at the same time it could of been mistaken for a very mature and confident woman which you see in the video.

Monica's 'Still Standing' album is in stores now and her new single; 'Here I Am' should be impacting really soon if it hasn't already.

Pepa Speaks On Nicki Minaj!

Everyone has had something to say about Nicki Minaj and rap legend; Pepa[of Salt N Pepa] speaks on Nicki Minaj and her image. Read more below about that story as well as 2Pac's mother's arrest and Eve's fall out with Interscope Records.

“Not everyone’s role model material, but we do have a sense of responsibility because kids listen more to us than they would their parents. But [Nicki's] young, so how’s she gonna enlighten?’ She’s new, she’s excited and what happens when you have a male camp backing you? Yeah, you might be singing those kinds of lyrics,” she says with a laugh. “That’s what happens when you have a male camp dictating how you should be.”
2Pac's Mother Arrested For Drug Possession!
Late rapper Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni, was arrested earlier this month on a drug possession charge after being busted by North Carolina police.

According to reports, Afeni was arrested on April 16.

The mother of late rapper Tupac Shakur was arrested earlier this month by state alcohol agents. Afeni Shakur Davis, 63, of the 2900 block of Crystal Lane in Lumberton, was charged April 16 with felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance and simple possession of a controlled substance. (Fay Observer)

Afeni later posted a jail bond to avoid spending time behind bars.

She is out of jail on a $10,000 bond, and her court date is scheduled for May 10. Shakur is a Lumberton native who is best known for her work as a political activist and former Black Panther. She also is the mother of rapper Tupac, who was gunned down in Las Vegas in 1996. His murder remains unsolved. Since her son's death, Afeni has managed Tupac's unreleased music and poetry, selling millions of albums since his death.
Eve Discusses Label Fall Out!
In mid-January, Eve posted a brief message via Twitter confirming her departure from long-time label, Interscope, but the 31-year-old rapper has never spoken in detail about the split. However, Eve shared with VIBE the real reasons she's currently shopping for a new label home.

"[Interscope was] stupid because they didn’t drop me at first, they [just shelfed me] and dropped the ball. After 'Tambourine', they straight up were like, ‘Umm, yeah, nah, we’re not putting out the record.’ After that I was like 'Yall gotta let me go. I’ve been here 11 years and you’re frontin on me?' It got to that point," she reveals.

Eve who's debut album off Interscope, Let There Be Eve... Ruff Ryders' First Lady, debuted in 1999, says she loves the label's chairman, Jimmy Iovine, but admits that he's motivated by trends, no matter how much faith he's already invested in a senior artist - "I'm not going to talk shit about him, but I don’t appreciate the fact that he didn’t go the extra mile for me."

However, the main reason the Philly chick says she left disgruntled has everything to do with a pledge that was made to her before her 4th album, Flirt was meant to drop in 2007. "They promised me the machine. The machine is basically the roll out. It’s 'Yo, when [Flirt] comes out, we’ll give you this, we’ll give you that. And that’s what made me mad. It’d be different if we didn’t have a mtg where people promised me shit. If they were just like ‘Oh we’re going to put the album out and see what happens,’ that would be one thing," she says.

"But they were like ‘No, we’re making sure this happens, it’s coming out on this date.’ It was concrete. But it’s all good, everything happens how it’s supposed to, when it’s supposed to."

Eve confesses experiencing a short surge of confusion. "I definitely went through a period of ‘Are you serious?’ I think I didn’t know how to feel. Once it finally happened, it’s like 'Damn, so you wasn’t really fucking with me?' I went through a lot of different thoughts, but that only lasted for two days."

Almost immediately after getting dropped Eve went overseas for a series of club performances off her dubstep record, "Me N My", and reached an epiphany that even without Interscope she was still on her right path.

Currently the rapper/actress is still taking major label offers and promises fans that her recharged album, Lip Lock, will be out this year.

Throwback Video: Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body

When Justin Timberlake released his debut album; "Justified" it was a really big deal and with The Neptunes at the production helm; Justin couldn't go wrong. With "Rock Your Body"; it was just another huge single from his catalog and ironically it would become the song that Justin would perform with Janet during the infamous Super Bowl performance that exposed her nipple.

Justin has been taking his time releasing a new album but he does appear on the new Jamie Foxx song; "Winner" which also features T.I.

Album Spotlight: Mariah Carey - Butterfly

Mariah Carey's "Butterfly" is one of her sultriest and classiest albums in her catalog. No Mariah is not doing her signature belting but she is softer and more subtle. It would become a style of singing she would also explore in later albums. The songs featured on "Butterfly" are beautifully arranged and it marks Mariah's official divorce from Tommy Mottola. Strangely enough instead of leaving Sony which was run by Mottola at the time; Mariah stayed at the label for another two years before moving to Virgin Records then Island Def Jam.

The debut single; "Honey" featured Mariah as we had never seen her before and the title track; "Butterfly" was just like any other signature Mariah Carey ballad. "My All" went to #1 and "Breakdown" was the B-Side and also got the video treatment.

One of my favorite songs is "Fourth Of July" and it perfectly captures the romantic sentiment between two lovers during the holidays.

For the album's cover Mariah was so in awe by two pictures that she chose them both(one which you see above) and an alternate one which is not much different. Both feature Mariah with the diva fan in high gear and hair blowing and of course her signature butterfly.

Throwback Video: Fantasia - Hood Boy

Fantasia made it clear in 2006 that the kinda man she wanted was none other than a "Hood Boy" and the song and video kinda ruffled some feathers. The song wasn't a hit on the pop charts but it peaked at #21 on the R&B charts.

Fantasia recently signed on for a second season of her reality show; "Fantasia: For Real". Fantasia's first single; "Bittersweet" from her upcoming untitled album recently leaked out so make sure you all look out for that.

Album Spotlight: Mario - Go

Mario's "Go" was a departure from his previous albums since Mario became more grown up and more explicit. The explicit title track was produced by The Neptunes and is one of my personal favorites. There is a lot of star power here in the form of producers including Akon on "Do Right" and Timbaland on "No Definition"(another favorite of mine).

The star power and Mario's consistency on this album was somewhat overlooked since the majority of this album leaked out nearly a year before it was released in stores. The constant push backs of this album didn't make matters any better. Mario did manage to crank out a few hits including another favorite; "Crying Out For Me" which always reminded me of an Usher song. The first single; "How Do I Breathe" never really took off. It was pretty much denounced as as "Let Me Love You" like retread.

All in all this was one of the better albums of 2007 and though Mario didn't have much success with this album; it shouldn't be overlooked. Make sure you check this album out.

Music Biz:
Mariah Carey Plans Second Christmas Album!

It’s only April, but Mariah Carey is already getting in the holiday spirit. The pop diva recently shot the packaging for her new Christmas album with famed photographer David LaChapelle.

U.K. newspaper The Times interviewed LaChapelle while he was prepping for his festive shoot with the singer at his Los Angeles studio. He photographed Carey for her 1999 album Rainbow and directed her “Loverboy” music video.

The seasonal visuals called for a graffitied city backdrop, fake snow, a “hideous” silver tree, and wooden cutout reindeers. “Mariah wanted real ones,” said LaChapelle. “Flown from Nebraska. Can you imagine, real reindeer?”

Despite her request for real reindeer, he insisted the songbird “isn’t a diva,” adding, “She never pisses on the little people.”

Carey hinted that she was working on a new project after scrapping plans for her Angels Advocate remix album. She has been in the studio recording with Jermaine Dupri, but it is unknown where that material will end up.

Her first Christmas album, 1994’s Merry Christmas, has sold 12 million copies worldwide and spawned the classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
We all know that Mariah's voice is not the way it was when she recorded her first Christmas album but this shall be interesting.

Producer Spotlight: Rodney Jerkins

He could perhaps be best known for his extensive work with Brandy but also artists such as Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. Rodney Jerkins rose to prominence through his work with Brandy on her second album; "Never Say Never". It was after that album's success where his star started to rise. He would eventually create a sound[with Brandy] that would serve as a sound for many of the artists Rodney would work with. This signature sound upset Brandy and led her to speak out. Brandy's speaking out has created friction between the working and personal relationship between her and Rodney Jerkins.

First appearing as a producer on Gina Thompson's debut album; "Nobody Does It Better"; Rodney was a virtual unknown but showed a lot of promise. Rodney would later appear on Mary J. Blige's 1997 album; "Share My World"(which is one of my personal favorites). The list below represents some of the songs Rodney Jerkins has blessed us with over the years. You may recognize some songs and others you might not.

  • The Things You Do; Gina Thompson
  • Say My Name; Destiny's Child
  • Deja Vu; Beyonce featuring Jay-Z
  • Enough Cryin'; Mary J. Blige
  • Shoulda Let You Go; Keyshia Cole featuring Amina
  • One Wish; Ray J
  • Everything's Gonna Be Alright; Aaliyah
  • Ain't Gonna Cry No More; Monica
  • He Wasn't Man Enough; Toni Braxton
  • Feedback; Janet Jackson
  • It's Not Right But It's Okay; Whitney Houston

Music Feed: Naked To The World

Lately there has been an overwhelming amount of celebrities who have had naked leaked pictures surface. Now some of these leaks are by mistake and some are for the advancement of those said artists' perspective careers. Now a little nudity never hurt anybody now has it? The following artists below have all fallen victim to naked leaked pictures in recent months.

Trina - During last year's BET's Hip Hop Awards; Trina's phone was stolen and inside contained numerous pictures of Trina naked and pictures of Trina breaking out in hives. Of course Trina was devastated by the leak and claimed she would take further suit.

Que[formerly of Day 26] - Que was quite the dysfunctional member in Day 26 but he never bit his tongue whenever there was a problem. After Day 26's seasons of "Making The Band" have been off air; Que has been pretty low profile until last week when nude pictures leaked of him. There wasn't an official word on the leaked photos at press time.

Erykah Badu - For the video for her single; "Window Seat"; Erykah Badu stripped down the bare minimum to promote individualism but instead caught a whole lot of flack. Besides the flack she caught; people were pleasantly surprised at Badu's full figured frame.

Anthony Harrell[of R&B group Brutha] - Everyone was surprised when a video of Anthony leaked out which featured him masturbating and showing off on his video phone.

Throwback Video: Aaliyah - If Your Girl Only Knew

This was the first single and video from Aaliyah's "One In A Million" album which would go 3x platinum I believe. This is one of my favorite songs from the album and the video is good too. Check it out!

Album Spotlight: Aaliyah - One In A Million

For Aaliyah's second album; "One In A Million" she hooked up with the then unknown production team of Missy Elliott and Timbaland. While Timbaland supplied the beats; Missy wrote the songs. The album resulted in a 17 song collection of songs that deal with everything you would come to expect of any R&B album in the late 90s era. This album was released in 1996 during the time there was no Brandy or Monica album on shelves. It gave Aaliyah a great time to reintroduce not only herself but Timbaland and Aaliyah.

The album took a minute to catch on but once it finally did; it took off in a really big way. There were the singles; the sassy; "If Your Girl Only Knew" and the slow groove; "One In A Million". There are a lot of fun songs here and they are all very memorable.

Some of my favorite songs are "A Girl Like You" featuring Treach of Naughty By Nature; "Giving You More"; and "I Got'cha Back". Just thinking about these songs recalls many memories for me. Lately I have been listening to a lot of older albums in my collection and it is time I dust this one off and play it again.

Many people are aware of this album especially after Aaliyah's passing in 2001. Aaliyah was always someone ahead of her time and this album is proof of that. If you haven't heard this album; you should check it out!

Baker says she looks forward to the collaboration.

"These young ladies have just really empowered me for the 21st century. I mean that just touches me. And just the support that these ladies give me is amazing. They just give me an energy that I didn't know I would have right now."

Keys Nicki Minaj Diss!

New female rapper Keys has not hid her dislike for Nicki Minaj and everything she stands for. Some people feel like she is doing this for attention; which I feel she is. Why couldn't she just come out with her own song? Maybe she has. I'm not sure. But anyway Nicki Minaj released a video awhile back responding and made it pretty clear she wouldn't respond back and personally I don't blame her.

Chris Brown, Tyga Holla At Me Music Video Clip!

A media outlet in Switzerland reported that Rihanna was rushed to the hospital Monday night after performing a sold-out show in Zurich.

According to Swiss news provider Blick, the singer was taken from the Hallenstadion venue to the Hirslanden private clinic in a blacked-out Mercedes after midnight.

She was reportedly treated for an unknown condition before leaving the hospital at around 2:55 a.m., when she was taken back to the venue.

“The singer Rihanna came yesterday evening to the emergency room. We do not know the details,” said Alenka Ambroztold, head of the clinic’s corporate communications.

Rihanna was reportedly deemed fit enough to continue her tour in Lyon, France last night.

Album Spotlight: Missy Elliott - Da Real World

Originally "Da Real World" was named after Missy's first single; "She's A Bitch" but Missy opted for a different title in order to not promote a bad message. "Da Real World" is easily one of my favorite Missy Elliott albums. I think out of all her albums; this one really gives a futuristic feel thanks to Timbaland's production. It should be noted that the production here is a little darker and thematic.

Missy has a lot of guest artists on this album but she remains the star on this album. She is never overwhelmed or outdone by the guests here. Each Missy album has always been notorious for featuring the hottest artists[at the time] on her albums including Eminem who appears on "Bust A Rhyme".

I remember the summer this album came out and my sister bought it. Listening to the album then; I realized what a great album it was. I would eventually purchase my own copy of this album and its one of the many in my collection. I haven't played this album in awhile and with the weather being so nice; I'm thinking about giving this album a much needed spin.

I think if you are interested in becoming familiar with Missy Elliott's music catalog; "Da Real World" is a great album to start with.

50 Cent To Trace Ancestry On VH1 Special!

The soon-to-be tattooless 50 Cent will trace his family roots as part of an upcoming VH1 Rock Doc titled “50’s Roots,” the network announced.

The rapper, based in South Jamaica, Queens, will head to the deep south and meet with living family members en route to discovering more about his slave lineage.

The “Rock Doc” is being produced in conjunction with 50 Cent and Roadside Entertainment and is part of 44 new shows VH1 unveiled today for 2010.

The new programming reflects a study VH1 conducted, to gain insight into what viewers of the network actually wanted to see.

“They told us that they want to connect even more with our characters, our artists and our celebrities – but in a more genuine way,” said Tom Calderone, President of VH1. “They still enjoy VH1’s signature sense of fun and irreverence, but they also want more storylines that reflect the issues and challenges they are experiencing in their own lives.”

An airdate for “50’s Roots” was not announced.

Trina Graces New Issue Of King Magazine!

I must of missed the memo but I thought King magazine folded but apparently not. I do remember reading that Trina would be on King magazine but I figured it was a mistake. I guess not. One listen to his first single; "Shutterbug"; you will definitely be grooving like I was and possibly interested in this album. Read below for more information on the upcoming album as well as stories on Nas' and Damien Marley's canceled tour dates and Janet Jackson's newest biopic!

After a number of delays, the first solo album from Outkast member Big Boi, “Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty,” will finally see the light of day on July 6, reports Billboard.com.

The Def Jam album features first single, “Shutterbug”, as well as 14 other tracks, including the bassy, piano-based “Turns Me On,” featuring Sleepy Brown; “Tangerine,” featuring T.I. with tambourines and guitars; and the Lil Jon-produced “Hustle Blood,” which features Jamie Foxx, reports Billboard. Big Boi said that particular track is “for the ladies.”

Ten days after the release of his album, Big Boi joins the lineup at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago’s Union Park during the July 16-18 weekend.

Big Boi has also revealed that a new Outkast album will be released after “Sir Lucious.”
Nas, Damien Marley Cancel UK Shows!
Nas and Damian Marley were forced to cancel their show in London due to the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland that grounded flights in the U.K. and across Europe for six days.

Although travel restrictions have been lifted and flights began landing again in the U.K. on Tuesday night, it was too late for the TCO-promoted Nas and Damian Marley Show at the Electric Ballroom.

The artists are promoting their collaboration on the album “Distant Relatives,” album, due May 17. Tickets will be valid for the July 20 London Hammersmith show, reports Billboard.
Janet Jackson To Play Eartha Kitt?
Could Janet Jackson pull off a role as challenging as portraying late entertainer, Eartha Kitt ?

According to Jackson, the opportunity to play Kitt in a biopic would be a dream come true.

"I adore her and I had the opportunity to spend time with her," says Jackson. "She had expressed wanting me to portray her and was excited about the idea of me portraying her in a film."

While Jackson is optimistic, it is unclear when and if a production based on Kitt will be shot.

"If that's really going to happen, I'm not quite sure, but I hope it does," says Jackson. "What an icon. She had gone through so much - not just her adulthood, but her childhood."

Music Biz:
Brandy Talks About Bran'Nu Alias!

Here's how Bran'Nu came about. I was in the car one day rapping. I was just listening to a beat and started flowing off the top of my head. It was crazy. I was like, “Oh my God, I’m learning!” I’ve always loved hip-hop, could always quote all of the verses from rappers like Eminem, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z.

Sometimes I prefer hip-hop over R&B. So I could always do that. But never really seemed to fit. Then I did it one day. I was like “OMG, I could rap, I could rap, I know I can rap, let me call my brother and get confirmation."

So I called my brother to get the confirmation, called my cousin, and I rapped for them and they were like, "B’ you’re onto something." I did it as a hobby for a while and then Timbaland was like, “You gotta do this, you gotta come on the album." For him to think that it was good enough to be on his album was like whoa.

But I’m a little nervous to really do Bran'Nu though on a consistent basis, because I never want my fans to think that I’m going to abandon them. I’m still Brandy. I really do love to rap. It's a part of my personality. I really get to express creatively, but I wouldn’t do a whole rap album. I think it’d be a lie if I did that.

Nicki Minaj is my favorite rapper right now. I love her. She is just so dope to me. I like her style and the way she performs, all of that. She’s different than anybody that has ever been out. I would do a song with Bran'Nu and Nicki. Absolutely. But I need about two weeks with my verse and I’ll be good. Nicki Minaj ain’t about to upstage me

As far as the name, Bran'Nu is a name that my momma gave to me a long time ago. People used to always call me Bran'Nu all the time and Timbaland thought that was a brilliant name for it for a whole rap persona.
I'm still on the defense about this whole Bran'Nu alias. The little rap Brandy did on her show was cool but I don't think she needs to rap too much; stick to singing please!

Throwback Video: Mariah Carey - Someday

I don't care what anyone says but the Mariah Carey here is definitely a lot different than the Mariah Carey today. Of course in 20 years; your bound to change. Back then though Mariah didn't take herself too seriously as an artist. She had fun! She had personality! She danced! You see all that here. This is one of my favorite Mariah Carey videos. Check it out!

Brandy Blames Rodney Jerkins For Last Album Failure!

With Brandy's new reality show; "Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business" airing on VH1; the drama of the show is finally starting to unravel. Last week we got a behind the scenes look at all the drama on "For The Love Of Ray J" and now Brandy will supposedly open up about her disdain for Rodney Jerkins and the failure of her last album; "Human".

I have read that Rodney and Brandy have since patched things up but for a time the singer was obviously mad at Jerkins and the direction of the album. I wonder was this said because the album didn't do well. Read more in the article! Also we mourn a Hip-Hop legend and Erykah Badu gets set for a tour.

Brandy blames producer and friend Rodney Jerkins for the dismal performance of her last album.

Singersroom.com reports that the R&B singer has some harsh words about Rodney’s supposedly shoddy work in an upcoming episode of “Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business.”

When Ray J discusses his interest in working with Rodney on some material, Brandy says, “I don't want the same thing that happened to me to happen to you.”

By that she means the poorly performing Human. And apparently she has a little more to say on his hand in the album’s failure, which led to her split with Epic Records.

There’s no word on whether Brandy and Rodney have patched things up since the episode was taped.

Rodney Jerkins irks the hell out of me and personally if Brandy never worked with him again; it wouldn't bother me. It seems like Brandy and Rodney are always having some sort of fallout. I'm starting to think they had more than a working relationship.

Guru Of Gang Starr Dies!
Just over a month since undergoing surgery following a heart attack, Gang Starr MC Guru (born Keith Elam) has died at age 43. According to a statement, Guru died of cancer-related causes on Monday after a long fight with the disease.

Guru's longtime collaborator and partner, French producer Solaar (sometimes referred to as Solar now), mourns his loss in the statement and explains that Guru had written a letter to his fans that was to be released upon his death.

"The world has lost one of the best MCs and hip-hop icons of all-time — my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru," Solaar said. "Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle! This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius."

Their 1998 album Moment of Truth was among their most critically lauded collections and Gang Starr's biggest selling project to date. Gang Starr's last group project, The Ownerz, was released in 2003.

Guru found solo fame in 1993 when he released the first volume of his Jazzmatazz series, an all-star project that featured a number of collaborations with jazz icons such as Branford Marsalis, Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers and Ronny Jordan, as well as vocals from Solaar and N'Dea Davenport of the Brand New Heavies. The album's mixture of jazz and rap was considered pioneering at the time, and the record spawned the hit "Trust Me." Guru would go on to make four volumes in the series.

The-Dream Picks Release Date For New Album!

The-Dream is back with his new album; "Love King" which will be in stores June 22. The album is led by the title track single. Also on June 22; Diddy will release his long awaited album; "Last Train To Paris" which features his group Dirty Money. There have been multiple singles that have come from this album but none have yet to take off.

Usher will release "Guilty" featuring T.I. as the next and last single from his album; "Raymond v. Raymond" and its funny because the album was just released last month. Usher has been dominating radio with so many singles; I guess there aren't many single options left. Pretty sad if you ask me. The album is somewhat under performing too so that might be a reason why the label may decide to stop promotion. There could also be a change of heart very soon so let's hope for the best. I really like the "Raymond v Raymond" album.

Some singles you should look out for in the coming weeks is Omarion's "Last Night" featuring Snoop Dogg, Anthony Hamilton's "Please Stay", Raheem DeVaughn's "Bedroom", T-Pain's "Kiss Her", and Rick Ross featuring Ne-Yo's "Super High". Make sure you request these songs on your local radio station.

Artist Spotlight: Ciara

Right now Ciara has everyone talking right now. She is prepping the release of her fourth album; "Basic Instinct" in stores June 29. She recently released the video for her title track; "Basic Instinct" where the singer is reportedly taking a swipe at Keri Hilson. Ciara dons her thuggish like gear to take on her army of doubters and haters. It is a move that has re sparked interest in Ciara and her new album.

Ciara burst onto the scene in 2003 with a style all her own and a swagger that was undeniable. The shy 20 something singer sung about her "Goodies" and the "1, 2 Step". Many years later she would become known for her fascinating dance moves and very sexy image.

Now with a new album and buzz brewing; Ciara is reminding fans and listeners alike why we all first fell in love with her. With ambition and pure determination; the spotlight is on Ciara.

Ciara Basic Instinct(U Got Me) Music Video Clip!

Ciara is really trying to erase the bad taste she left in our mouth with "Fantasy Ride" by creating a buzz with her upcoming album; "Basic Instinct" and I must say it is working. The video features The-Dream who more than likely produced this song and is executive producing the new album.

The opening few minutes of this video is said to be a direct dis to Keri Hilson who allegedly dissed Ciara and Beyonce on the "Turn My Swag On Remix" or whatever song it was. Keri Hilson is known for her shady behavior anyway so I wouldn't be surprised that this song is about Keri.

Fantasia's VH1 Reality Show Returning!

If you watched Fantasia's reality show; "Fantasia: For Real"; word is the show will be returning for a second season. The first season saw Fantasia as she dealt with money woes; getting her recording career back on track; and emotional distress with her family. I'm sure the second season will feature even more drama and then some. You tuning in?

There was a story circulating around that Teairra Mari's "Sponsor" video was banned on BET. I guess that story couldn't of been more far from the truth since I saw the video last night on "106 & Park". There has been some raised eyebrows about the message of the song but it's not the first time people have heard a song like this. Relax!

Brandy & Ray J who are starring in their own reality show on VH1; "A Family Business" are set to appear on "The Wendy Williams Show" this Thursday April 22. The sister and brother duo will take the stage with their parents; Willie and Sonja. Bran and Ray have made various appearances on different shows in support of the show and I must say I'm really enjoying the show and this upcoming show looks to be real juicy! Erykah Badu says she has yet to see the fine that was supposedly issued to her after someone complained about her nude stroll down a Dallas street.

But Badu told Vibe: “To tell you the truth, I haven’t received a letter in the mail or nothing. All I know is the Dallas chief of the police went to the record store last week and bought my album.”
Amy Winehouse Reconciles With Husband?
They were divorced less than a year ago, but it appears Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil are ready to make a new start.

The Grammy-winning singer, 26, celebrated her ex-husband's 28th birthday this weekend with a visit to the Jazz After Dark bar in London. The club's owner, Sam Shaker, tells PEOPLE that the couple are still enamored with one another.

"They are in love with each other," Shaker says. "If people would not interfere with all their life, they are amazing together … They are happy together, and that's all that matters to me."

Winehouse and Fielder-Civil were married in May 2007 in Miami. They were divorced last July after Fielder-Civil said Winehouse's alleged adultery was "intolerable."

Fielder-Civil spent almost a year of their marriage behind bars after pleading guilty to charges of assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Winehouse's rep had no comment.

Jay-Z Sues Over 40/40 Club Name!

Jay-Z and a business partner are suing slugger David Ortiz, claiming the Boston Red Sox star named his Dominican nightclub after the mogul's chain of 40/40 clubs.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Manhattan Federal Court, accuses Ortiz of calling his Santo Domingo club Forty-Forty in the hopes of trading on the rap star's fame.

Jay-Z's string of bars can be found in Manhattan, Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Lawyer Peter Raymond tells the New York Daily News that Ortiz had visited the clubs twice and certainly knew about them.

The clubs are named after the feat of hitting 40 homers and stealing 40 bases in one season.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday night with SFX Baseball, the agency that represents Ortiz.

Kelly Rowland Upset At Airplane Treatment!
According to reports, former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland had to go into hissy fit mode because of the ill treatment to the singer and her traveling companions by Quantas Airlines flight attendants.

The incident happened Thursday on a flight to Australia. Reports say Rowland berated the Australian cabin crew for treating her entourage like “five-year-old kids”.

According to News.com.au, Rowland went off on the flight assistants after disembarking the plane, accusing them of being “rude.”

“I found the flight attendants really sh*tty. I don’t know why. You tell me,” she said to reporters. “They were very rude to us. That’s the first time you’ll ever hear me say a curse word. They were just rude to us on the plane. They treated us like five-year-old kids. I don’t know. Every time I’ve flown Qantas it’s always been fantastic. (But this time) it was rather unpleasant.”

The incident happened while Rowland and her crew traveled from Melbourne to Sydney to perform.

Album Spotlight: Erykah Badu - Mama's Gun

Erykah Badu followed up her wildly popular debut album; "Baduizm" up with the 2000 release; "Mama's Gun". The album; to me was a continuation of "Baduizm". Here; the melodies were more soulful; more drawn out; and the creativity more expounding.

One of my favorite songs from this album is "Didn't Cha Know" which was also a single. The video was very tantalizing as it featured Erykah alone in a desert unsure of which way to go. What was even more interesting was that Erykah finally revealed what she had under her signature headwraps.

The album is also interesting since the tracklisting on the album doesn't match what's on the actual album. Erykah Badu does note that the tracklisting was changed at the last minute and only a few of the album's tracks contains lyrics. It is somewhat bizarre but this is Erykah Badu we are talking about.

But back to the music; there is cool, relaxing jazzy undertones of "Orange Moon", the autobiographical "My Life", the funky "Booty" and so much more. This is a really good album and definitely for the mature crowd. Make sure you check it out if you haven't already.

Drake Explains Debut Album Delay!

One of the most anticipated albums of this year will probably be from Drake. His new single; "Over" is already climbing the charts. Like most R&B/Hip-Hop albums; Drake's debut "Thank Me Later" had been pushed back a time or two but the rapper insists June 15 is the final date. Read more about that as well as Nas' new focus and Keri Hilson's latest endeavor.

Drake has stepped up to the plate and taken blame for the delay on his debut record 'Thank Me Later.' The album apparently missed its deadline on May 25 because the Toronto-based artist was trying to culminate a unique series of songs that pleases a wide-ranging fan base. In this era of everything-gets-delayed, this is not such a big deal, but Drake was adamant that taking the extra time worked out for the best.

"The album comes out on June 15th," Drake said in an interview with Music On Campus. "It was really just about me getting into the right creative head space and delivering a first album that people could all appreciate. So, I think I got it now. Yeah, June 15th, I'm excited."

Drake also revealed that he plans to return to acting after 'Thank Me Later' comes out and makes its splash. He appears to be eying movies and was floating hints last fall that he'd love to get a role in one of Judd Apatow's popular "bro" comedies.

"Television is sort of an exhausting," he continued, "repetitive format to be in but I'm definitely, like after this album and I have another project I have in mind that I want to do but after that I'll probably get back into some movies, yeah. I'm excited to do movies again. I like being on set."
Nas Puts Focus Back On Music and Kids!
After getting royally ripped financially in court this week, rapper Nas is now saying he’s focusing on music and his children after striking a deal to dismiss a civil contempt charge against him.

A Los Angeles judge dismissed the contempt allegation against him Monday after he paid nearly $50,000 in child support to his estranged wife Kelis.

Kelis’ attorney sought the contempt charge earlier this year after Nas (NAHZ) fell $200,000 behind on child and spousal support payments. He was ordered in December to pay more than $51,000 a month to Kelis and their infant son.

In a statement released Wednesday, Nas says:

“All I want to do is make music and raise my kids. Nothing else matters.”

Nas has a daughter from a previous relationship.

I’ve always strived to do the same with my music. To be a part of that experience means a tremendous amount to me.”

Music Feed: Tatted Up

Who doesn't have some sort of tattoo nowadays? I got my one and only tattoo at age 17. I haven't had much of a desire to get anymore. I have heard many people say that tattoos are pretty addictive; that would explain these artists and their love for body art. Check out this list of artists who are known for their body art.

The Game - It seems like every time we see The Game he has a new tattoo and definitely too many to name. One of his most famous tattoos is located on his face which is a red star.

50 Cent - 50 Cent's muscular physique is adorned with tattoos but recently he has removed some of his signature tattoos. Why? Maybe because he is growing up and wanting to be taken more serious perhaps as an actor. I just feel like don't get tattoos you will later regret.

Pharrell Williams - Like 50 Cent; Pharrell has undergone some procedures to remove tattoos on his body. There were pictures or some type of footage I remember where Pharrell was wrapped in a cast but it looked more like he had just gotten a tattoo versus him getting one removed.

Lil' Wayne - I think Lil' Wayne is someone who gets a new tattoo every time he was not in the studio. His body is literally covered in tattoos.

Jacki-O - Jacki-O is one of the few women in the industry who has an armful of tattoo; pun intended. It doesn't look exactly tacky on her but some argue it may not look very lady like but with the body she has; men still literally lose their minds over the sight of her assets.

Tyga - This Young Money member flashed all his tattoos in then some in the video for Young Money's "Bedrock".

Gucci Mane - Gucci is the inspiration behind this music feed. I was watching him perform on the BET Hip Hop Awards and I came up with the idea. I noticed all that tattoos on his arms and said to my friend; "Hey I have an idea for a music feed!" and two seconds later!

Diddy Confirmed As Nicki Minaj's New Manager!

It looks like Nicki Minaj will be changing managers again soon if she plans on being managed by Diddy. We all know Diddy has a track record for promoting all things; himself! All I can say is that we all learn from our mistakes! Read more about that as well as stories on new albums from T.I. and Soulja Boi.

VIBE has confirmed that Sean “Diddy” Combs has signed on as Nicki Minaj’s new manager.

News broke a week ago that the Young Money rapper sent her former manager, Debbie Antney, a termination letter via a lawyer, stating that Antney could no longer conduct business for her.

Earlier this month, Nicki dropped out of a tour with Rihanna and pop newcomer Ke$ha, stating on her Twitter account (@NickiMinaj): "Barbz I'm sorry 2 say I will not be going out on RiRi's tour. I've decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album."

The rapper is currently prepping her much anticipated debut and recently released the lead single and music video, “Massive Attack,” featuring Sean Garrett. The producer told VIBE recently, "[When] I first played that 'Massive Attack' [for Nicki], I could tell that she was trying to be cool like ‘I can’t tell [him] that shit is that crazy.' And her assistant was like, 'Yo Nicki, you need to go back to that record.'"
Soulja Boy Prepares New Album!
Soulja BoyYoung MC/producer Soulja Boy claims to be stepping up his rhymes on his third effort, 'Dre.'

The 19-year-old 'Crank Dat' rapper has frequently lauded his own artistic progression as of late, and in a recent interview with BET, he has further elaborated on his growth. "This one, my lyrics are better, my lyrics are on another level," Soulja Boy explained. "My beats are on another level. I'm richer. I look better and I'm more successful, it's an upgrade."

Soulja Boy also claims collaborations with some of the game's biggest guns, including Kanye West and Drake, though none of them have confirmed his statements.

"I been in the studio with Kanye, rocking," Soulja Boy told BET. "I haven't been in the studio with Rihanna yet, but she said she wants to get something done. Shouts out to Drake, been in the studio with Drake. Been in the studio with Nicki Minaj, I got something. Shouts out to Trey Songz, I was just in the studio with him. I got something on there. Ray J, Snoop Dogg, that's about it."

Soulja Boy's 'Dre,' which was originally titled 'The DeAndre Way,' after his birth name, is scheduled for a July 28 release, coinciding with his 20th birthday.

T.I. Readies New Album!
T.I. Is breaking free with his seventh studio album. The Atlanta rapper has announced a title for his next release.

The follow-up to 2008’s double-platinum Paper Trail will go by the name of King Uncaged, it was revealed today via Tip’s website TrapMuzik.com. He has been recording with Jim Jonsin, B.o.B, Danja, and The Runners for the August 24 release. A buzz single “I’m Back” is currently No. 65 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In his first interview since completing his prison sentence, the King of the South described the album’s direction. “Paper Trail was a lot more about thoughts and this is more about feelings,” he explained. “This is significantly more aggressive. It’s going hard like classic T.I.”

Music Biz:
Drake Films Video For New Single!

Less than a day after premiering his brand-new video for “Over,” Drake is already on to the next one. The 23-year-old singer-rapper went in front of the lens again for his new single.

Drizzy is in Kingston, Jamaica, this week shooting a video for “Find Your Love,” the second single from his debut album Thank Me Later, Rap-Up.com has exclusively learned. Anthony Mandler (Rihanna, Jay-Z) is back in the director’s chair for a second time.

The “Over” director will continue crafting the rising star’s image. “Here’s a guy whose lyrical presence does not equal his visual presence yet, by any means,” Mandler told Rap-Up.com. “That’s something that he and I spoke a lot about. He felt strongly that nobody had really captured him, and some of the videos that had been done were less iconic than he would like to be represented as.”

Thank Me Later is scheduled for a June 15 release. Drake will fly back home to Canada to perform at this weekend’s 2010 JUNO Awards and has announced dates for a European tour, kicking off in July.

Eminem Readies New Album!
The much-anticipated new album from Eminem, Recovery (Aftermath/Interscope), will be released June 22, 2010, it was announced today by Interscope Records. On Recovery, his seventh major label studio album, Eminem has reached out to an exciting list of first-time collaborators, including DJ Khalil, Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin and Boi-1da, among others.

Eminem releases Recovery just over a year after his last album, 2009’s Relapse. Relapse put the cap on an impressive ten years of recorded output, and contributed to Eminem being the biggest selling artist of 2000-2009. In recognition of this, Neilsen SoundScan named him their Artist of the Decade. Relapse entered the charts at #1 and, at nearly double platinum, was the best selling rap album of last year. It also earned Eminem his 11th Grammy award, winning in the Best Rap Album category. Relapse’s first single, “Crack A Bottle” from Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Eminem’s second #1 after 2002’s “Lose Yourself”) and set a SoundScan record at the time of its release for opening week download sales (418,000). The album also spun off two other hits; the Top 10 “We Made You” and Top 20 “Beautiful.”

“I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year,” remarked Eminem. “But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title.”
