Album Spotlight: Erykah Badu - Mama's Gun

Erykah Badu followed up her wildly popular debut album; "Baduizm" up with the 2000 release; "Mama's Gun". The album; to me was a continuation of "Baduizm". Here; the melodies were more soulful; more drawn out; and the creativity more expounding.

One of my favorite songs from this album is "Didn't Cha Know" which was also a single. The video was very tantalizing as it featured Erykah alone in a desert unsure of which way to go. What was even more interesting was that Erykah finally revealed what she had under her signature headwraps.

The album is also interesting since the tracklisting on the album doesn't match what's on the actual album. Erykah Badu does note that the tracklisting was changed at the last minute and only a few of the album's tracks contains lyrics. It is somewhat bizarre but this is Erykah Badu we are talking about.

But back to the music; there is cool, relaxing jazzy undertones of "Orange Moon", the autobiographical "My Life", the funky "Booty" and so much more. This is a really good album and definitely for the mature crowd. Make sure you check it out if you haven't already.
