Producer Spotlight: Rodney Jerkins

He could perhaps be best known for his extensive work with Brandy but also artists such as Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. Rodney Jerkins rose to prominence through his work with Brandy on her second album; "Never Say Never". It was after that album's success where his star started to rise. He would eventually create a sound[with Brandy] that would serve as a sound for many of the artists Rodney would work with. This signature sound upset Brandy and led her to speak out. Brandy's speaking out has created friction between the working and personal relationship between her and Rodney Jerkins.

First appearing as a producer on Gina Thompson's debut album; "Nobody Does It Better"; Rodney was a virtual unknown but showed a lot of promise. Rodney would later appear on Mary J. Blige's 1997 album; "Share My World"(which is one of my personal favorites). The list below represents some of the songs Rodney Jerkins has blessed us with over the years. You may recognize some songs and others you might not.

  • The Things You Do; Gina Thompson
  • Say My Name; Destiny's Child
  • Deja Vu; Beyonce featuring Jay-Z
