Throwback Video: Ciara feat. Petey Pablo - Goodies

Who could forget Ciara's introduction in the game by way of her hit single; "Goodies". It also served as the title of her debut album which sold in excess of three million copies. I know one of my very best friends is a huge Ciara fan and I thought about him when I watched this video. Ciara was very different then. She didn't bare any resemblance to Aaliyah or Janet; she was strictly in her own lane.



Ciara will be releasing her new album; "Basic Instinct" on June 29. The album features the hit single; "Ride". If you recall the racy video to "Ride" has been banned by BET. Boo! The video is being reedited to appear on BET.

T.I. Appears On The Wendy Williams Show!

This past Friday; T.I. appeared before the infamous Wendy Williams for a sit down interview. T.I. talked a little in depth about his gun charges that landed him in jail. Though when asked about his family; T.I. was a bit mum. I guess some things are simply not up for discussion.



T.I. recently released a new mixtape; "Fuck A Mixtape" which is a precursor to his upcoming album; "King Uncaged" in stores August 24. The album will be led by first single; "Got Your Back" featuring Keri Hilson.

Album Spotlight: The Firm - The Album

It was 13 years ago when rappers Nas; Foxy Brown; AZ; and Nature came together to create The Firm. Rapper Cormega was apart of the original lineup. I don't recall the reason for his departure from the group. I do think he had a minor beef with Nas though. The Firm was just one of the many rap clicks that was created during a time where there was No Limit and Junior Mafia. Unfortunately The Firm didn't manage to sustain but that's beside the point.

Their debut(and only) album debuted at #1 on the charts when it was released. The album featured the hit singles; "Firm Biz" and "Phone Tap". "Firm Biz" featured Dawn Robinson of En Vogue and the song featured a sample from Teena Marie's "Square Biz".

There was a lot of hype surrounding The Firm and rightfully so with such a lineup. Many critics felt the album was a failure even though it did go platinum. With such rap luminaries; this album should of sold more particularly since some of the rappers were at their peak.

The Firm's album is pretty solid in my opinion. Some of my favorite songs are "Hardcore", "Firm Fiasco", "Firm All Stars", and many many more. I think this album may be pretty obscure to most people. I don't think many people really remember this album or the songs. I could be wrong though. There has been talk about a possible reunion sans Nas but that's not too surprising. Then again with Nas' recent payout to Kelis; he need to be jumping on board so he can make that money to pay her off!

Lil' Wayne, Nicki Minaj Knockout Video!

I don't have many words for this song nor the video. I do remember when I first heard this song though. My friend had bought Lil' Wayne's "Rebirth" album and she was pretty floored by what she heard. I figured she knew what kind of album it was. She definitely thought this was some type of joke.

Any rumors of Nicki Minaj's relationship with Lil' Wayne will certainly be revisited thanks to her backing all her ass up on him. Make sure you all check this clip out!



Lil' Wayne's "Rebirth" album didn't exactly set the charts on fire but to date the album has managed to go gold(500,000 copies sold).

Music Feed: I Am Not My Hair

Do you all know the song by India.Arie called; "I Am Not My Hair"? Well basically the song describes how so much is made of a woman's hair especially in the entertainment business. Not one to always conform to what the industry expects; India.Arie cut her trademark dreads off. She wasn't the only one. Some of India's musical peers followed suit and cut their hair.

My friend and I were having a conversation and I told him Chrisette Michele cut her hair and he couldn't believe it. He swears how he had just saw her but I told him she appeared on BET's "Sunday's Best" with a short hair cut; shorter than my very own. He thinks the singers who cut their hair off are crazy! What do you think?

More or less this is about the singers who cut their hair and when they did it was a really big deal.

Erykah Badu
Most of the time we were all accustomed to seeing Erykah Badu in headwraps. When she finally unveiled her bald head in her "Didn't Cha Know" video; we all were very surprised.

Solange
About a year after Solange released her "Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams" album; pictures surfaced of her with her hair cut off. While the cut looked very nice on her; many still were surprised as to why she cut her hair so short. I understand though that some people just want change.

Cassie
People nearly had a heart attack when they saw Cassie shave one side of her head. Honestly I thought Diddy coerced her to do that in order to get attention. It definitely worked because many singers and regular old people followed suit.

Rihanna
As part of her whole "Good Girl Gone Bad" phase(which Rihanna is still obviously going through); she cut her hair into an edgy bob reminiscent of Kelis'.

Kelis
If you remember the video for "Bossy"; Kelis actually cut her hair then and in the later clips; you see her rocking the short 'do.

Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson stunned everyone when she reportedly cut her hair. Personally I think this is how Janet's hair looked without the wigs. She did mention that she would be wearing her hair short in a new Tyler Perry movie.

I can still remember when I first heard this song and it was back in 2005. I instantly liked this song and this is one of my favorite songs by Bobby Valentino.

Fantasia Unveils Bittersweet Single Cover!

And this is not exactly new to me since I have seen it before. I didn't know this was the single cover though. Have you all heard Fantasia's new single; "Bittersweet"? The single is currently #23 on the R&B charts. It may have a shot at the top of the R&B charts since Fantasia's ballads typically are very successful on the R&B charts.

In other Fantasia news; her reality show; "Fantasia: For Real" has been greenlit for a second season. The show aired earlier this year on VH1.

Album Spotlight: Kelis - Kelis Was Here

Kelis' "Kelis Was Here" spawned the hit single; "Bossy" which became a ringtone hit as well. I remember when I was working in a cafeteria and I would hear the girls phone go off and "Bossy" would come on.

Kelis always manages to have at least one hit from each of her albums. What eventually happens afterwards is pure disaster. It usually has to do with some label fallout. On the other side of the Atlantic(as they like to say); Kelis is a big seller and her albums and singles do really well.

On "Kelis Was Here" Kelis offers us a mishmash of musical soundscapes. There is basically something here for everyone and every genre of music can be found on here. Will.I.Am produces the cut; "What's That Right There" which I remember someone saying refers to Kelis being a hermaphrodite. You would have to hear the lyrics to get the full understanding.

One of my favorite songs is "Trilogy" which sounds like something the Neptunes produced but they didn't. I also like "Goodbyes" and "Circus"; which describes a lot of the stereotypes in the music industry.

If you haven't heard Kelis' "Kelis Was Here" you should check it out. This is definitely not everyone's cup of tea but you just might like the taste!

Kelis Reveals 4th Of July Single Cover!

Some of you may or may not have heard Kelis' newest single; "4th Of July". I heard a little tidbit of it before but I didn't want to spoil myself. The single is Kelis' second single from her upcoming album; "Flesh Tone" in stores July 6.

We are all aware of Kelis' recent big payout from ex-husband Nas so we all know; Ms. Kelis is living it up!

Music Biz:
Lil' Mama Damages; Steals Clothes From Video Shoot!

Lil Mama recently trashed some borrowed clothes during a music video shoot.

“Lil Mama borrowed cloths for a video shoot and she and all the dancers trashed all the cloths and stole the rest,” the source said. “Some of the clothes were totally ruined, with paint spots and dirt all over them.”

The producer of the music video attempted to get Lil Mama’s people to return the stolen items but had no luck.

“There has been endless lying throughout this scandal that has now been labeled the “Lil Mama Drama” and the producer has plans to take them to court,” the source added.

Maxwell's New Album Pushed Back!

If you were wondering where Grammy Award winner Maxwell's second 'Blacksummers' night' album, part of a trilogy, is, we have bad and good news.

According to Maxwell, the album was to be released this summer but, due to the response stemming from the first album, it has to be pushed back a bit.

"I had a plan — every year something new, and I thought that that would be a good enough time to sort of give people space to feel like they weren't being inundated by what I was doing," Maxwell said this week, admitting the push back is a 'good problem'. "I've had this entire trilogy with me for years, for four or five years, so I can wait. I just want people to get it when they want it. ... At this point, it's in their hands."

No word on when the second part of his trilogy will hit stores. Maxwell is however going on tour this summer. Joining Jill Scott, he will play over twenty dates through July.

Maxwell's "Blacksummers'night"was released last July (2009). It has since spawned the singles "Pretty Wings," "Bad Habits," and "Fistful of Tears".

Da Brat Is Returning To The Rap Scene!

That's of course when she finishes her jail sentence! Da Brat is still in prison serving a few years for striking an aspiring model in the head with a bottle of rum. That's Da Brat for ya! She was able to visit producer JD and that's where the news derived from. Make sure you be on the look out once Da Brat returns. If you didn't know Da Brat is the first female rapper to earn a platinum album!

There had been tons of pictures and rumors going around about Alicia Keys being pregnant! Well it turns out that it is true. Alicia Keys' rep has confirmed that the star is pregnant and engaged to boyfriend Swizz Beats. Now we all are aware of how these two came to friction and its best told by Swizz Beats ex-wife singer; Mashonda. Mashonda was obviously scorned and took to twitter(just like an average celeb) and expressed her disdain with Alicia and Swizz. It's all old news now though but congratulations to the couple!

Kanye West is rumored to be releasing his new album; "Good Ass Job" this June. His first single; "Power" just leaked out today! Of course you have to scramble to hear it as the links are being taken down left and right. Make sure you be on the look out for the new single and new album.

Janet Jackson Performs Medley Of Hits On American Idol!

So the season finale of "American Idol" was on last night and I didn't watch the whole show but I turned back and forth. I was able to see Paula Abdul wish Simon Cowell a farewell and I caught Janet's performance which included a medley of "Again", "Nothing"(From the "Why Did I Get Married Too?" soundtrack), and "Nasty". Overall it was a very good performance from Janet and her body was looking incredible. Check it out!



There has been a lot of speculation regarding Janet's music career. A lot of reports have been saying that she was finished making music. Former boyfriend Jermaine Dupri says that Janet is looking to make music every once in awhile and realizes that album don't sale the way they used to.

Brandy & Ray J Come Back For Second Season Of Reality Show!

VH1 has greenlit its current Sunday lineup which comprises of Brandy & Ray J's "A Family Business", "Basketballs Wives" and "What Chili Wants" all for a new season. There is no word when the new seasons of these shows will air. I watch faithfully each show every Sunday so I'm kinda happy about the renewal.

Things aren't looking too good for Ciara and her video for her new single; "Ride". First there was the shocking ban from BET and now the UK has banned the video. The label is rushing an edited video to correspondent to the networks. I don't think the video is offensive or that racy in anyway. And of course there are other videos that are more outrageous and don't get banned. There is no such thing as bad publicity so in the end I think this will only help Ciara. I think it will have more people looking out for her album; "Basic Instinct" in stores June 29.

Monica is said to be one of the many performers on this year's BET awards which will air on Sunday, June 27. She will probably perform her #1 hit; "Everything To Me" or maybe even her newest single; "Love All Over Me" but I'm thinking it will be "Everything" just because that's what everyone knows and its what their expecting.

Dirty Money Releases Last Train To Paris Album Cover!

After numerous setbacks; Diddy-Dirty Money will release their debut album; "Last Train To Paris" on June 29(I might have to check that date again). The album contains the singles; "Hello Good Morning" featuring T.I. and Rick Ross. There's also "Love Come Down" and there was a song before that but I can't remember.

I actually like the album cover and "Hello Good Morning" is kind of growing on me. What do you all think about the album cover!

Lil' Kim may come off notorious and nasty in her rhymes but most people in the industry speaks about how nice she is. Well of course everyone won't agree with that statement. Over the years Kim has had a few public feuds with a few public celebrities. It is easy to pick on Kim for all the plastic surgery she has had over the years. Other than that what else can people really say? Check out some of the feuds that Lil' Kim has had over the years below.

50 Cent
50 Cent was at the peak of his career when he collaborated with Lil' Kim on "Magic Stick". Once the song was chosen for a single and hit radio; 50 Cent skipped on the opportunity to do a video. Kim; feeling betrayed and hurt would later dis 50 Cent on her "Spell Check" song which was from her "The Naked Truth" album. 50 Cent and Lil' Kim have since made up.

Foxy Brown
Lil' Kim's feud with Foxy Brown is now industry legend. The two rappers started feuding nearly 12 years ago. Blame huge egos and label bosses for this feud that has carried on for far too long.

Remy Ma
When Lil' Kim released her mixtape; "G.O.A.T."; she threw a few shots at Remy Ma on her "I Get Money" freestyle. I'm not entirely sure why but maybe because Remy through some subliminal shots at Kim. Who really knows? Remy Ma later retorted on "When I See Her" which pretty much broke Kim down. Once that song was released; it was pretty much a wrap. Don't count Kim out though. When she releases her new album; I'm sure she will have plenty to say.

Eve
Eve was accused of taking a few shots at Kim on a few songs namely; "Let Me Blow Ya Mind". It was a shot that Kim took to heart and dissed Eve on her "Came Back For You" song from her "La Bella Mafia" album. Eve; who always plays innocent denied the dis and the two later made up.

2Pac/The Outlaws
The beef between Biggie and 2Pac escalated into personal insults not just among each other but each others perspective crew members; that's where Kim comes in. On "Hit Em Up" the Outlaws took a few shots at Kim. Sadly we all know how this story ended.

Queen Pen
Queen Pen was accused of dissing Kim when she released her "I Got You" single describing an unknown ally as a "drag queen". It made perfect sense because at the time Kim was really staring her over-the-top fashion phase.

La Bella Mafia Songwriters
Let's not pretend that Kim doesn't have ghostwriters though she claims she doesn't and often chastises other females for having them. The team responsible for many of the cuts on "La Bella Mafia" sued Kim saying they did receive the proper songwriting credits in addition to payments for the songs.

Album Spotlight: Lil' Kim - Hardcore

When Lil' Kim's "Hardcore" album was released; it was a really big deal. It was released a week apart from then friend Foxy Brown's "Ill Na Na" album. No one was keen to hearing a female spit sexual lyrics and certainly not of this caliber. I remember being in junior high school when this album came out. I also remember when one of my friend got the cassette and we sat and listened to it. It was definitely something we shouldn't of been listening to at that age but I will say we both were mature beyond our years.

Lil' Kim's "Hardcore" starts off like most rap album with an unforgettable "Intro" which features a man going to a porn shop to view a movie starring Lil' Kim which is ironically titled; "Hardcore". From there we head into the Jay-Z assisted; "Big Momma Thang" which is one of the album's many highlights.

Kim not only plays on her sexual image but a gangstress image which she would revisit on 2003's "La Bella Mafia". The songs here are filthy; flirty; and downright outrageous. This is the Kim many people liked and many people want back. Let's she if she can do it again with her new album.

Suge Knight Accused Of Ordering Hit On Man!

It is very crazy to still read stories like this about Suge Knight after all these years. Yes; he does have a reputation to be very intimidating mostly because of his huge stature. I guess you can also throw in the countless death threats he has made against other celebrities. Read more below on this story as well as stories on Dr. Dre's new album and Lady GaGa hooking up with T.I.

According to TMZ.com, legal documents were filed yesterday (May 24th) in Los Angeles Superior Court, where a judge ordered Knight to stay at least 100 yards away from the man.

In court papers, the individual claimed that after Knight was released from jail on an assault charge last week, eight men came to his house last Friday (May 21st).

The goons were allegedly sent by Knight to “get me or kill” the man. The individual claims Knight himself said he was going to “take” his life.

At press time, it is unclear if the man who filed the restraining order yesterday is the same individual Knight had an altercation with last Thursday (May 20th) in Los Angeles.

In that incident, a man accused Knight of pointing a gun at him during the altercation.

Knight was later stopped in his white Cadillac Escalade and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and driving with a suspended license.

Knight has denied the gun charge.

Dr. Dre Readies Detox Album!

Those expecting another Chronic 2001 from Dr. Dre are in for disappointment. According to super-producer Scott Storch, the rap icon is avoiding repeating history with Detox.

“There’s quite a few records that are really amazing,” Dre’s longtime production partner and friend Scott Storch told DJ Skee in a recent interview. Storch collaborated with him on The Chronic 2001.

But don’t expect the same sound as Dre’s classic 2001 album. The beatmakers made sure not to include tracks that were too reminiscent of the past. “I think people will be pleasantly surprised when they hear it. It’s definitely a departure from a lot of the stuff Dre has done and the stuff Dre and I have done in the past. It’s a hybrid,” he revealed.

The long-awaited project is nearing completion. “I think he’s looking for like three more records,” Storch said, while joking, “So that should take about 400 records to get those three. He’s got pretty high standards.”

Additionally, the hitmaker confirmed that he co-produced the lead single “Under Pressure” featuring Jay-Z.

I wonder are people still interested in this album or not. It has been in the works for so long and has had many setbacks.

Lady GaGa Appears On New T.I. Album!

Rapper T.I. has revealed that his new studio album King Uncaged, due August 17, will feature a collaboration with Lady Gaga. The two have recorded a RedOne-produced track called “Lick It”. T.I. says on working with Gaga:

“Phenomenal talent. Extremely proud. She’s definitely that good. She knows what she’s doing. She knows exactly what she wants people to think and say. She does everything that she needs to be done to ensure it happens. I think she’s an entertainer, in all aspects of the word. She’s a classic, all-around entertainer. A global star.”

“We gonna go back in and record some more songs. But the one we have right now is entitled ‘Lick It.’ I think we both have a tendency to shock the world in a lot of different ways.”

Lady GaGa is definitely crossing over and appearing with more rap artists it seems. I see she didn't appear on Trina's album though on "Let Them Hoes Fight" and I wonder was it because Trina is not big as say T.I. Hmm makes you wonder?

Jazmine Sullivan Returns With New Single!

A lot of people have been inquiring about Jazmine Sullivan's return to music. Now it has been revealed that Jazmine will release her a new single next month titled, "Holding U Down" and the song was produced by Missy Elliott. No surprise there. Right? Make sure you be on the look out of for that. I know a lot of people were crazy about Jazzy's debut album; "Fearless". I never really got the hype about her though. Sorry!

T.I. will release his new album; "King Uncaged" this August. The album's first single is "Got Your Back" featuring Keri Hilson. Faith Evans has a new album on the way titled; "Something About Faith" to be released September 14. The album's first single is "Way U Move" featuring Snoop Dogg. The song was produced by Chucky Thompson[worked with Mary J. Blige and Faith previously]. He is severely underrated. I can't wait to hear this as well as Faith's new album. This is Faith's first new album since 2005.

Timbaland Reaches Settlement In Copyright Infringement Case!

It seems like every time we turn around Timbaland is getting sued and it just goes to show no one is original these days. Everyone takes from everybody. Remember a few years ago when Timbaland got sued for some of the beats he produced on Nelly Furtado's "Loose" album?

Read below for more info on Timbaland's settlement case as well as stories on Rick Ross' latest lawsuit and David Banner's disdain with rap.

Super producer Timbaland has reached a settlement in a copyright infringement claim regarding the song “Throw It On Me,” from his Shock Value album.

Timbaland settled with composer David Cortopassi, the original writer of the song “Spazz,” which was originally recorded by The Elastik Band.

The track, which was originally released through ATCO/Atlantic in 1967, had become a cult classic after being banned and labeled one of the most “tasteless” records ever made.

The song became so popular it was re-released in 1998 on a Rhino Records box set titled Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968.

Timbaland then sampled “Spazz” for his song “Throw It On Me,” which featured Randy Fitzsimmons of The Hives and rapper Attitude.

“Throw It On Me” sold well commercially, moving over 1 million copies, in addition to being featured in a commercial for Verizon’s Voyager phone.

Rick Ross Sued Over Use Of Name!

The real Rick Ross could face off against the rapper Rick Ross (William Leonard Roberts II) in court this summer, over the usage of the name “Rick Ross.”

Rick Ross controlled thousands of workers at the height of his power in the mid-1980’s, who dealt millions of dollars worth of cocaine each day.

In 1996, Ross was sentenced to life in prison for attempting to purchase over 100 kilograms of cocaine.

Ross was released from prison in 2006 and attempted to reclaim his name.

Ross claims that Miami rapper Rick Ross (William Leonard Roberts II) signed a multimillion dollar deal in 2006, based on his image and likeness as a drug dealer.

Rick Ross claims that he protested the use of his name in 2006 by sending cease-and-desist letters to Def Jam, which were allegedly ignored.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that Ross’ lawsuit will claim that the rapper stole his identity and based it on Rick Ross’ real drug dealer image in the black community.

According to sources, Ross is planning to sue Def Jam, Universal, William “Rick Ross” Roberts II and others.

The rapper Rick Ross (William Leonard Roberts II) is preparing to release his fourth album Telfon Don.

Of course once Rick Ross has started making all this money under his stage name; someone wants to come out and sue him and want a piece of that money. Can you blame him? I just wish people wouldn't wait until someone blows up to file lawsuits. Though he claims he did it years ago; it was ignored.

David Banner Speaks On State Of Rap!

Southern rapper David Banner recently spoke on the ailing rap industry and why all regions should be held responsible for its current condition.

Banner also explained why he thinks hip-hop has suffered.

"People don't even mix and master records anymore," Banner said in a blog post. "They don't care about the quality of music anymore and it's turning it into sh*t and it's our fault. All these blog sites and magazines are doing the same thing with the bullsh*t politics. The media ain't sh*t, they only care about screwing each other. It ain't about how good you can rap anymore. Dope beats? What happened to that? Now it's all about what features a rapper is going to have or who he's having sex with. But we allowed it to happen and it's our fault. Don't blame it on no regions or anybody. Blame it on yourself for not liking better music, the magazines and blogs need to put out better information."

So not only was rap attacked but bloggers were attacked but we've been under attack. The info I post may not always be accurate but nine times out of ten it comes from another source. I'm not sitting here just making up stories about celebrities. I don't get off on that nor do I get off on belittling celebrities. I mean I could be a prick and do that but I don't.

I just feel like if David Banner is so upset about the state of music why doesn't he put out a worthy album enough to change the state of "rap" music? I don't think that's a hard thing to do but people like to make excuses also as to why things aren't the way they are. The quality of music has fallen short over the last decade but you see a lot of it is not supported anyway. It is bootlegged!

Rarely did we see any of the members of the legendary TLC stray from the group but this was one rarity. For the 1995 movie; "Fled" starring Laurence Fishburne; T-Boz sang one of the singles from that which was "Touch Myself" and a very risque song I might add but nonetheless a forgotten groove. Album Spotlight: Trina - Da Baddest Bitch

Like many female rappers before her; Trina has adopted a few nicknames over the years and one is her debut album; "Da Baddest Bitch"; which can hear her refer to herself as in many songs. The other would be "Diamond Princess"; the name of her second album.

Trina gets downright filthy and outrageous on her debut album. It is shocking, funny, and nasty and I like it all! Trina has no shame and that was evident on her featured appearance on "Nann" back in 1998.

This album basically picks up where "Nann" left over with plenty of songs dedicated to trifling hoes; dumb baby daddies; and broke guys. I mean if your are into this type of sexually explicit music; then this is an album worth checking out. This is Trina in rare form and I think many people would like to see her revisit this album or offer more sexual rhymes.

Over the years she has cleaned it up which isn't a bad thing but it pays to get nasty. Make sure you check this album out if you haven't already.

Amerie is back on her A-game. The singer, who recently got engaged
to her longtime manager, drops The Inkredibles-produced single “Who’s Gonna Love
You,” boasting her distinctive funk-pop sound and brash energy.

The
bride-to-be exclusively revealed to Rap-Up.com that the follow-up to last year’s
In Love & War will be titled Cymatica Vol. 1. Cymatics, derived from the
Greek word wave, means the study of visible sound and vibration.

No
release date has been set, but A did previously tell us that she wants to
incorporate her newly-acquired guitar skills on the project.

The-Dream, Mariah Carey Sued Over My Love Track!

R&B producer The-Dream, label mate Mariah Carey and Def Jam
Records are facing a lawsuit over a duet production from The-Dream’s album Love
vs. Money.

Preston Marshall and Demario Driver have filed a lawsuit
against the singers and record label Island Def Jam for copyright infringement
over the production of “My Love,” seeking $450,000 in damages, according to
YoRaps.com.

The producers claim they emailed their song “Are You The
One” to music executive Jeff Huffman in 2008 only to hear a version of it on
The-Dream's album Love vs. Money the following year (09).

"I sent the
song to (Huffman) via email,” says Marshall. “I never heard back from him.
(After hearing the song on The-Dream's album) I was hurt because you put a lot
of time and effort into this. You know, music is my life. I feed my family this
way."

Previously The-Dream mentioned that he composed the track with
Carey in mind.

I reported a few days ago that Faith Evans had a new single being released titled; "I Got Faith In You, You Got Faith In Me" but now I'm reading the first single is called; "Way U Move". The song is produced by Chucky Thompson who has worked with Faith in the past and who is quite underrated if you ask me. Faith's upcoming album is titled; "Somethin About Faith". Bobby V, also known as Bobby Valentino, is prepping for the release
of his fourth studio album, "Fly On The Wall".

A follow up to the 2009
effort "The Rebirth," the effort is the former DTP Records recording artist's
second release under his label, Blu Kolla Dreams.

Set for release
summer/fall 2010, Bobby V's "Fly On The Wall" already features a reunion with
the hitmaking producers behind his debut single "Slow Down," Tim & Bob.

In addition to Tim & Bob, the "Beep" and "Anonymous" singer is also
working with Jazze Pha (Ciara).

Since 2005 Bobby V has released three
albums, including his 2005 debut, which spawned the hit singles "Slow Down" and
"Tell Me". He has also collaborated with a who's who list of artists including
Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Chingy, Yung Joc, and Plies.

Mario Wants Chris Brown For Next Album!

With all the blackballing Chris Brown has gotten in the last few months; its nice to know some artists are still in his corner. Friend Mario is enlisting Chris Brown for his next album. Read more below about that as well as stories on Kelis' latest performance and Drake's album tracklisting.

Mario is working on his next album, an effort he says will
likely be filled with electronic/house sounds and if time permits, a
collaboration with Chris Brown.

"Stay tuned. I just came back from
Europe — it's crazy out there," Mario said earlier this week. "It was incredible
to see how many people are into house music and R&B music, and how house
music influences R&B nowadays. You know, [it has a] real strong presence ...
over there."

After collaborating with Sean Garrett and Gucci Mane on his
last album, "D.N.A," Mario has his eye on working with embattled singer Chris
Brown. Calling the collaboration one "for the ladies," the two could be heard
together on his next album.

Mario's as-yet-untitled fifth studio album
is slated for release summer/fall 2010

Kelis Serenades At Fashion Show Opening!

Kelis launched a new Dior store in Shanghai after being personally
requested by fashion designer John Galliano.

The 'Acapella' singer flew
straight from London to the Chinese city to introduce Galliano's summer 2011
resort collection for Christian Dior - before attending an exclusive after
party.

Charlize Theron and Marion Cottilard were also at the glitzy
event, where Kelis sung a five-track set which included recent hit 'Acapella' as
well as old favourites 'Milkshake' and 'Trick Me'.

Huge crowds gathered
outside the tent - which was so big it took two weeks to build - and watched the
eccentric star from the Bund docks across from the Shanghai city skyline.

Kelis, 30, did three costume changes throughout the night - all
fittingly Dior pieces, which involved a red one-shoulder dress with kimono
sleeve, a black and silver sequin suit and a purple satin parachute pant
jumpsuit.

Kelly Rowland Signs New Record Deal!

Much has been made regarding Kelly's new album and what label she would eventually sign to. Without further adue I can say Kelly Rowland has signed to Universal Records. Kelly's first single; "Commander" debuted awhile back. Make sure you look out for the upcoming video and Kelly's new album when it is released.

Marques Houston has a new album coming out titled; "Mattress Music". The title is a rather sleazy one and we should all know what to expect musically. The album's first single is "Pullin On Her Hair" featuring Rick Ross. Previously the single; "Kickin & Screamin" leaked out and it is lingering on the lower echelon of the R&B charts. Make sure you look out for both songs and the upcoming album when it hits stores.

Drake is wasting no time flooding the airwaves with more and more music to ensure his debut album; "Thank Me Later" is a hit! The singer/rapper just released the video to his second single; "Find Your Love" which is a personal favorite of mine. Now the singer/rapper is releasing "Miss Me" featuring Lil' Wayne as his third single on June 1. Drake's debut album will be in stores June 15. The Game Pushes Back New Album!

The release of rapper The Game’s fourth studio album The R.E.D.
Album has been pushed back a week.

The album was originally scheduled to
be released on June 29, but will now hit store shelves on July 6.

Game’s
latest project will now arrive in stores the same day as Big Boi’s upcoming solo
album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.

That leaves two
major releases still set for June 29th: Diddy’s forthcoming album Last Train To
Paris and Paul Wall’s project Heart of A Champion.

Game’s latest single
“Ain’t No Doubt About It” will be available for purchase on iTunes starting on
Tuesday, May 18.

R.E.D. features collaborations with Gucci Mane,
Timberland, Jim Jones, Nate Dogg, Jadakiss, Akon, Justin Timberlake and
Pharrell, as well as production from Dr. Dre, Pharrell, Cool & Dre, Boi-1da,
Jim Jonsin and The Neptunes.

The album, which is co-executive produced
by Pharrell and Dr. Dre, will be released on the Aftermath/Star Trak imprint
label of Interscope Records.

Jae Millz Arrested!

While details are sketchy, the rapper sent out a tweet revealing
that he was held in the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx.

“This woman really
just called the cops on me... But u in MY house,” the rapper wrote shortly
before tweeting: “I'm gettin arrested!”

A source told AllHipHop.com that
Jae Millz was involved in some sort of domestic dispute, although he listed
another reason for the bust on Twitter.

“Its real weird how I got
arrested 4 havin an illegal substance, but 80% of da holdin cell was in there
cuz of chicks,” Jae Millz tweeted.

Today (May 19th), Jae Millz is slated
to shoot a video for the first song off of his upcoming mixtape He Still Nasty,
which will be released May 26th.

Mashonda Files Lawsuit Against Swizz Beats!

Swizz Beatz’ former wife Mashonda Dean filed a lawsuit against the
superstar producer in Manhattan Supreme Court, claiming he already owes her
$334,000 in missed payments.

The lawsuit was filed amidst reports that
singer Alicia Keys is pregnant with Swizz’ child.

Mashonda’s lawyer
called the missed payments “troubling” because Swizz allegedly bought Alicia
Keys a seven-carat engagement ring.

Additionally, the new couple are
expected to move into a $14.5 million penthouse in New York City.

"I so
much wanted both of us to get on with our lives and maintain our respect for one
another, but he now shows that his priorities and sense of responsibility are
screwed up," R&B singer Mashonda told The New York Post.

Swizz Beatz
denied that he owed Mashonda the money and said that he agreed to pay more than
the judge and even his lawyers recommended.

"I gave over what the judge
was recommending to give. I gave her $700,000 upfront, because I thought
$200,000 wasn't enough for what she wanted to do. I still get spit in my face
for it," Swizz said.

Swizz lashed out at his ex-wife, claiming that he
was frustrated over Mashonda’s use of the media as their divorce played out.

"I've been taking blows and punches the whole time. It's like here we go
again," he said. "She's very fortunate. She's sitting here complaining about
things people would love to have. You've got a new house, you've got everything
you need . . . buying $10,000 bags and stuff like that. Now instead of focusing
on work I have to spend time on this foolishness. Enough is enough already."

Swizz Beatz and Mashonda are due back in court in June.

Monica Switches Singles!

I been a little out of the loop here but I'll try and act as if I never missed a beat here. I read yesterday that Monica has switched singles for her second single. There are rumors floating around regarding Lil' Kim being signed to Roc Nation. Roc Nation was spearheaded by Jay-Z and he is supposed to executive produce Kim's upcoming album. That's like a big smack in the face to Foxy huh?

Fantasia To Appear On VH1's Behind The Music!

Fantasia is readying a new album this year and what better way to kick start it with a "Behind The Scenes" episode. As if we didn't already know everything about Fantasia. What else will be revealed? I mean Fantasia's life has pretty much been an open book. We can also look for the second season of Fantasia's reality show; "Fantasia: For Real" as well.

"American Idol" the television show may have the summer and fall off, but a couple of its alumni will get airtime in the coming months as subjects for the popular VH1 series "Behind the Music."The new season begins June 7 with scheduled episodes focusing on Courtney Love, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez. Season 3's Jennifer Hudson is also on the summer slate.

Then, in the fall, Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino will get a starring "BTM" turn. No date yet for when "BTM" will air, but probably in time for the new season of "Fantasia for Real," her VH1 reality show that was recently picked up for a second season. Its January 2010 premiere was the network's highest-rated show, with 2.3 million viewers. Season 2 was announced to be returning in summer/fall 2010.

John Legend Wrapping Up New Album!

John Legend is a pretty lucky guy. He sang the national anthem at the World Series and joined Stevie Wonder onstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anniversary concert last fall — on the same day.

The piano-playing crooner will follow those achievements with the release of his next album, Wake Up Sessions, with the Roots. According to Legend, he’s been a fan of the Philadelphia band since his college days, when he was a student at the University of Pennsylvania.

“We’re, like, 99 percent done. We’ve done all the recording, and now we’re mixing half the album, and it’s coming out in September,” the singer told MTV News. “I’m very excited about it. It’s gonna be a very interesting, very cool album. And like I said, I’m a big fan of the Roots. I’m excited to be able to put out an album with the Roots. This is a group I’ve been following since I was a kid at UPenn. I would go to open mics and watch them host the open mics, wishing I could be onstage with them, and now I’m in the studio with them making this album, and it’s pretty exciting.”

Legend and the Roots joined forces last month to perform at a 40th-anniversary Earth Day event. Wake Up Sessions is the follow-up to Legend’s 2008 album, Evolver, which featured the Andre 3000-assisted “Green Light.”

T.I. To Appear On Larry King Live!

T.I. will face his fans, naysayers and pundits when he appears on Larry King Live this Thursday, May 13.

Confirmed Tuesday, May 11, the interview will be the "I"m Back" and Grammy Award winning rapper's first major chat-session since serving over six months behind bars on weapons charges.

T.I. joins embattled stars Chris Brown, Hulk Hogan and Carrie Prejean, who have each appeared on Larry King Live over the last twelve months.

Sources say T.I. will discuss what it was like behind bars and what life was like going from winning numerous awards for his hit album "Paper Trail" to facing a judge.

T.I.'s interview with Larry King Live airs on CNN Thursday, March 13 at 9pm.

After three years together and a newborn child; Bobby Brown popped the question to his girlfriend on Monday, May 10. This will be the second marriage for Bobby Brown. I don't even have to say who he was married to before. Bobby recently wrapped up his stint on "Celebrity Fit Club".

Do you all remember Latavia from the original line up for Destiny's Child? Well the singer has been pretty low key over the years and rumors have circulated regarding her financial status as well as her work status. Whatever the case may be Latavia apparently had a tell all book in the works which was set to expose the Knowles family. Now according to the singer on her twitter page the book has been blocked! No surprise there right? I mean most people are already aware of the sheisty behavior exhibited by Mathew Knowles(Beyonce's father) so if she was set to reveal even more; then this has all the makings of being a New York Times Bestseller.

Kelly Price will release her new album; "Kelly" on August 3. The album's first single will be "Tired" which should be released very soon or if it is released now; I've yet to hear it. Kelly was also in talks to be apart of a group with Tamia and Deborah Cox. I'm not sure of the status of that now but personally I think they should all just concentrate on their own perspective solo albums.

Artist Spotlight: Jazzy

Before thrusting into the spotlight as a solo artist; R&B/Pop singer Jazzy was part of the songwriting duo; The Write Chix. Their big break came in 2007 when they worked with Chris Brown. Her work with Chris Brown led to a background vocalist stint for Melanie Fiona on Kanye Wests' "Glow In The Dark" tour.

Now Jazzy has released her new mixtape; "Beauty And The Beat" which features appearances and drops from Kandi[of "The Real Housewives Of Atlanta"], Eric Roberson[from the song "Dealing"] and Melanie Fiona just to name a few.

Brian McKnight Leaves Radio Hosting Gig!

Brian McKnight’s three-year-old morning radio show in Los Angeles has come to an end. The R&B singer is scheduled to announce his departure from KTWV-FM “The Wave” during his 6-9 air shift this morning, reports the LA Times.

McKnight’s busy schedule, which forces him to prerecord some segments for KTWV, played a part in the station’s decision to let him go, according to the Times. The multi-platinum R&B star has also hosted his own TV show, a syndicated radio show, still performs live and is writing a book. Station managers now prefer a live and local host in the time slot.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time the last three years. I love the one-on-one with the fans,” McKnight told The Times, but “it seemed like a good time to get out.”

Friday will be McKnight’s last day. Taking over on Monday (May 17) will be Kim Amidon, who for 22 years co-hosted mornings at adult-contemporary station KOST-FM (103.5), until the station replaced her in November 2007. She’ll join co-host and producer Pat Prescott, who has been on mornings at KTWV, better known as “The Wave,” since 2001.

Although listeners might miss McKnight, Prescott said she’s certain they can understand his scheduling constraints.

“I really feel fortunate to have had these three years working with Brian,” she said. “This is the first radio show he ever did, and he took to it so naturally.”

Kelis Talks Lady GaGa & Rihanna Comparisons!

Rihanna and Lady Gaga have taken the fashion world by storm with their bold sense of style, but before them was Kelis. While the “Bossy” singer’s influence on today’s female pop stars remains a hot topic of conversation, Kelis is sounding off to Rap-Up.com about her impact on music’s leading ladies.

When asked whether she had heard the Internet chatter comparing her style to that of Rihanna and Lady Gaga’s, Kelis responded, “Yeah. I tried not to see, but it’s noticeable.”

Although it may ruffle her fans’ feathers, the “Acapella” songstress says she’s flattered by the comparisons and attributes the similarities to her peers’ ages. “They’re really young. What else are they supposed to do?”

Kelis explains that this is not the first time an artist has been accused of “swagger jacking.” Borrowing fashion and recycling trends has occurred many times before her. “I’ve been around for a long time and that’s what artists do; we take from each other and we recycle,” she states. “And quite frankly, it may not even be them. It might be stylists that have been around as long as I have and are like, ‘Hey, let’s recycle this on these younger artists.’”

But she shrugs off the controversy. “I’m not offended by it. I don’t really have much feeling about it, honestly. It just keeps me on my toes and allows me to continue moving forward, so it’s cool. I really don’t see it as a bad thing. I guess it means I’m on the right track.”

While she has no beef with her fellow fashionistas, you won’t find her listening to their music on her iPod. “I can’t say that I do. I’m familiar with it, like I know it. I don’t live in a hole. If I’m at a party and they play it, I enjoy it. I get it.”

Kelis’ new album Flesh Tone arrives in the U.K. on May 17 and July 6 in the U.S.

I don't think Lady GaGa so much borrows from Kelis but Rihanna was a pretty obvious follower with the short cut and some of her image.

Throwback Video: Whitney Houston - It's Not Right But Its Okay

Blame my friend for this. We went out to eat earlier today and she played this on her iPhone today. It took me back 12 years ago when this song was released. Whitney's "My Love Is Your Love" album was the first Whitney Houston album I owned thanks primarily to this song and it being so hip. This song was produced by Rodney Jerkins and became one of Whitney's biggest hit of the late 90s. Check it out!



Listening to this song you can tell it comes from a real place. By this point Whitney and Bobby's marriage was played out in the tabloids and rumors of Bobby's infidelity definitely inspired this song.

Nicki Minaj Chooses Your Love As Second Single!

The wildly popular; "Your Love" which leaked in its unmastered form three months ago has gotten the green light for the new Nicki Minaj single. The song recently debuted at #97 on the R&B charts and this week it sits at #100. A video for the song is said to be shot really soon. Make sure you be on the look out for that.

Lil' Kim has been pretty quiet on the music front give or take a few appearances here and there. Now I have learned that the rapper has signed with Violator Management(home of Mariah Carey and 50 Cent among others) to help resurrect her career.

R.I.P to legend Lena Horne. The legend died yesterday. She was 92 years old and she was one of the first black women to play before an all white band. Lena Horne was definitely before my time and a lot of peoples. I do remember when she guest starred on "The Cosby Show".
