Miguel's Adorn Reigns Atop Of R&B/Hip Hop Airply For 20 Weeks

That's 20 weeks and counting....

A look at other songs to rule Billboard radio charts for at least 20 frames, as well as what makes Miguel's smash so durable.
Miguel's "Adorn" joins an elite group of hits to have led a Billboard airplay ranking for a whopping 20 weeks or more, as his smooth ballad tops R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay for a 20th frame this week.

While the track is the first to log 20 weeks or more atop R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, a select set of songs have reached the milestone on other Nielsen BDS-based Billboard radio airplay tallies (dating to the early '90s advent of BDS' electronically-monitored data).

How has Miguel managed a first on an R&B radio chart? The R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay reporting panel is a mixture of mainstream and adult R&B stations, a benefit for him, as, according to radio programmers, his appeal is wide-ranging. "Miguel is one of those rare artists who's able to bridge the gap between 25-34 and 25-54-year-old listeners," says Skip Dillard, operations manager at adult R&B WBLS New York. "His appeal to both mainstream and adult R&B was solidified with his first hit, [2010's] 'All I Want Is You.' Now, 'Adorn' is his second single to be big for us."

Dillard isn't too surprised about the RCA singer's rise, considering the station's investment in him from the start. "Miguel was an early find for us due to his participation in a free summer concert series we produced just after he signed his record deal. He's a unique and talented artist."

"The ladies just can't get enough of Miguel's silky voice over a song with lyrics that are truly sensual," echoes Jeff Anderson, OM of mainstream R&B/hip-hop WCDX Richmond, Va., which has played "Adorn" more than 2,000 times. "Ask any female aged 18-34 about Miguel and they almost lose it.

"Some artists only come around once in awhile that truly make an emotional connection with the audience. Miguel is one of those artists."
