Album Review: Keyshia Cole - Woman To Woman

Woman To Woman finds Keyshia Cole tapping into her beginnings as a pained songstress; though the singer is not exactly in a pained place as of now. She is happily married but realizing that some of her fans are still stuck; she is happy to go back and experience some of the uglier parts of her past.

Woman To Woman opens up with the monster hit that is Enough Of No Love featuring Lil' Wayne. The album's third single Zero features Meek Mill who has a brief verse which we could of done without. Not discrediting Meek Mill but his verse just seemed out of place and Keyshia seemed like she was perfectly capable of carrying this song all by her lonesome. Again I think Meek Mill was just added on because of his name and he is popular right now. I'm just saying.

Missing Me is pretty forgettable. Trust & Believe; the album's second single is a winner and the video is probably one of thee best videos released this year. It's one of those videos where the video actually matches the song. We don't get that much these days so its welcome addition to the videos of today! Get It Right is typical Keyshia.

The title track Woman To Woman featuring Ashanti is a winner and one of the album's highlights. The song was originally supposed to feature Brandy but for whatever reason Brandy didn't appear on the final version. We may of never imagined Keyshia Cole on a record with Brandy let alone Ashanti. Interestingly enough Ashanti and Keyshia Cole compliment each other. Wonderland featuring Elijah Blake is a nice little cut! I Choose You has a nice throwback feel which Keyshia exploiting her vocals to fine effect.

Stubborn is nice. Hey Sexy produced by The Dream is another highlight. It was poised to be the album's second single but was ditched in favor of Trust & Believe. Next Move featuring Robin Thicke is nice. Robin Thicke is on background vocals and doesn't share a verse on the song. Signature is the album's closer and its probably my least favorite of the album's 12 songs on the Standard version.

With her collaborators in tow; Keyshia Cole remains the star of the show. In no way shape or form is she weighed down by any of her collaborators. This explains why some of the collaborative efforts are short and may leave some of the listeners wanting more.

All in all Woman To Woman is a return to form for Keyshia Cole who struggled with her last album. Here; she doesn't miss a beat and this album is sure to have a successful run.

Miss shirley brown's influence still holds so strong today. The woman 2 woman title has been used so much in recent years and with these latest rnb stars musical efforts...song choices and styles...like j hud and fantasia then keyshia and ashanti. I wish she had come up with another name for the album. but i am a big shirley brown fan so i appreciate her influence being so strong
