BET Awards Recap
So last night was the 2011 BET Awards and it went like any normal live awards shows telecast. There were a few surprises, some minor bleeps, and some pretty good performances. I'm going to break down the award show based on my own personal moments; the good; the bad; and the plain ugly.
The show opened with Mary J. Blige dressed in a white catsuit and a blond ponytail looking really good! She performed a medley of her hits including; "You Bring Me Joy", "Mary Jane(All Night Long" and she even performed her new single; "Til It's Over" featuring Jadakiss. The live version of that song sounded good so I can only imagine how the studio version will sound.
Mary really did her thing including a brief dance step before bringing out Anita Baker performing; "Caught Up In The Rapture". "Rapture" was the song Mary J. Blige recorded that landed her a record deal. So what better way to pay homage to the star and the said song by briefly serenading and performing with her; Anita Baker.
Chris Brown performed a medley of hits as well; "She Ain't You", "Look At Me Now" with Busta Rhymes" and "Rock Paper Scissors". Typical Chris Brown performance but he was definitely gyrating. Chris won the R&B artist award as well as the Viewer's Choice. At first it was mentioned that Rihanna and Drake won due to a flub by viewer Tiffany Green. Green got a lot of bad press and a lot of followers through twitter and even became a Trending Topic. At press time she still is a Trending Topic which is good and bad.
Rick Ross performed a medley of hits solo wise and alongside others including Alicia Keys(who paid tribute to her 10 year old album; "Songs In A Minor"); Lil' Wayne; etc.
Old school singers Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal performed their hit; "Saturday Love" which took a lot of people by surprise and had the crowd on their feet. I couldn't quite pin the issue with O'Neal. He acted drunk or if he just had a stroke. Cherrelle looked really good and worked the crowd.
Kelly Rowland performed; "Motivation" which was a highlight for many but people were taken back because she lip synced. She did a brief medley of the remix with Trey Songz which ended with him kissing her on her neck and going under the stage. Prior to Kelly's performance; Trey took his shirt and performed; "Love Faces" and "Unusual" all the while experiencing his voice cracking by hitting some not so popular notes.
Beyonce performed via satellite her singles; "Best I Never Had" and "End Of Time" and brought the house down overseas. We couldn't see the reaction in the crowd at the BET Awards though.
I know I'm missing some things but these are the highlights for the most part. If you haven't seen the awards I'm sure BET will be playing it around the clock over and over and over and over and over and over again! Seriously!
Here is more of the breakdown at the 2011 BET Awards.
