Kelly Rowland Speaks On New Album!

BCBG is an abbreviation of the French phrase “bon chic, bon genre,” which translates to “good style, good attitude.” Kelly Rowland embodied both attributes as she rocked the BCBGMAXAZRIA front row this morning in a pale yellow and grey minidress, accessorized with copper highlights in her new ‘do.

Rowland–who first won fame as a member of the singing group Destiny’s Child–describes her personal style as “always combining chic and street together, like my favorite piece in the collection today, that had all those beautiful lines cut into it.”

Max Azria, who also designs Herve Leger and MAXAZRIA, told us backstage that what distinguishes BCBG from his other collections is that it is “younger.” The show, which began with “Be My Lady,” was a return to the feminine, with flowing, diaphanous dresses in silks and chiffons, primarily in a palette of whites, creams, and dove grays with occasional splashes of orange. They were accompanied by strappy high sandals, sleek ponytails and sheer makeup.

Rowland has just started work in the recording studio with Jermaine Dupri on her third solo album. We asked her what we can expect.

Rowland said that her collaborators on the album include Rico Love, Tricky Stewart and The-Dream. “I’ve been working with very talented producers and writers. I’m very excited about this record.”

Rowland said that she is beginning to write some of the new songs, because “I believe it’s very important for artists to express their individual points of view. Nobody can tell your story better than you can and I have so much to say.”

Rowland said that the themes of her new songs include “challenges and survival. I feel that there’s a need for another female anthem and I want to do it.”

Petey Pablo Arrested!

Rapper, Petey Pablo, was arrested Saturday morning at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

According to warrants and an airport spokeswoman, security found a gun in his luggage. Airport spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin says the 37-year-old was arrested around 6:00am after a Smith & Wesson 639 was found in his carry-on.

Pablo, whose real name is Moses Barrett III, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm.

According to a Wake County magistrate, Pablo was trying to catch a flight to Los Angeles for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. He posted $50,000 bond and gave the jailers some of his CDs before he left, according to jail officials.

His first court appearance is Monday.

Pablo lives in Knightdale, northeast of Raleigh. In 1993 he was arrested in Raleigh on armed robbery charges and sentenced to 14 years.

He is best known for his hit songs "Raise Up" and "Freek-a-Leek."

Aretha Franklin Wants Halle Berry In Biopic!

Aretha Franklin wants Halle Berry to show her some R-E-S-P-E-C-T and sign on to portray a younger version of the Queen of Soul in an upcoming biopic.

The 68-year-old singing legend sent out a press release this week revealing her choices for Hollywood stars to play top roles in a planned film about her life and career.

Besides Berry, Franklin says she wants another Academy Award winner – Denzel Washington – to play her father, the late C.L. Franklin, a prominent Baptist minister and civil rights leader in Detroit.

Her wish list also includes Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard as Motown star Smokey Robinson.

The movie, for which Franklin says she'll be reviewing the script next week, will be based on her autobiography, "Aretha: From These Roots," a best-seller a decade ago.

Messages seeking comment were left by The Associated Press on Friday for representatives of Berry, Washington and Howard.

In her release, Franklin says the actors in question are "enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to take on these roles, subject to further negotiation."
