Album Spotlight: Toni Braxton - The Heat
It wasn't very long when I featured another Toni Braxton album; 'Secrets' here but Toni's music catalog is so consistent; it warrants her; her second album spotlight feature.Toni Braxton had a few rough years after the success of 'Secrets'. She would file bankruptcy and had a huge falling out with LaFace Records. For a time it was looking like Toni would never get it together. But you can't count anyone out.
Released in the fall of 2000; Toni Braxton released 'The Heat' to much fanfare and the hit single; 'He Wasn't Man Enough' which featured Robin Givens in the video. Toni obviously had a lot to get off her chest about men as her second single; 'Just Be A Man About It' featured Dr. Dre. Talk about a comeback!
I just like the feel of the record. The title track 'The Heat' is full of summery energy and is very catchy. 'Gimme Some' is another favorite of mine and it features Left Eye. 'Speaking In Tongues' is another song I like and a perfect slow jam written by Toni herself.
This goes down as another solid album by Toni Braxton. You definitely should check it out if you haven't already.
