Music Feed: Remakes, Cover Songs, & Renditions

For a time; specifically in the late 90s a lot of artists were covering songs left and right. It was pretty overwhelming at one point. There have been some great remakes and some not so great. Some songs you just don't touch. And if you dare cover a song; you better do the original justice or make it your own. Those are the rules! Follow them!

Check out this list of songs that have been remade over the years.

Endless Love, Diana Ross & Lionel Richie
Remade by Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey
This song is considered a classic and people are very sensitive about artists remaking classics but you can't go wrong with Luther and Mariah.

If Only You Knew, Patti Labelle
Remade by KeKe Wyatt
You'd be a fool to remake a Patti Labelle song and not possess the powerful pipes that Ms. Labelle possesses? Well in KeKe Wyatt's case she can and has pulled of a classic Patti Labelle song and it goes down as a favorite among many.

I'm Goin' Down, Rose Royce
Remade by Mary J. Blige
Over the years Mary J. Blige has covered many songs and each song she takes on; she clearly makes it her own. If your not familiar with Rose Royce they performed the song, 'Car Wash' which was also the title of the 70s hit film starring the late Richard Pryor.

I Feel For You, Prince
Remade by Chaka Khan
You have to be really knowledgeable of music to know this song is a remake. Most would assume that Chaka was the original artist for this song but she is not. When Prince made the song; it wasn't a hit and it was much slower in tempo.

The Beautiful Ones, Prince
Remade by Mariah Carey & Dru Hill
I could of done a separate post on all the Prince songs remade over the years and I just might. Mariah covered this song on her 1997 'Butterfly' album and it is one of my favorites.

Love Don't Live Here Anymore, Rose Royce
Remade by Faith Evans & Mary J. Blige
If you were to buy or hear Faith Evan's debut album now; you might just hear her on vocal duty for 'Love...' since Mary J. Blige asked to have her vocals removed after a fallout with Faith and Diddy. This song has also been covered by Madonna and a slew of other artists who just won't register in my head right now.
