The Neptunes Greatest Hits

They are my favorite producers. I will say I haven't been much impressed with some of their productions over the last few months. With the recent announcement that they are working with Brandy, I am overwhelmed with excitement. I decide to look back at The Neptunes and some of their 'greatest hits'.

Milkshake by Kelis
I remember reading an article about Pharrell saying that Kelis had this really hot record and it was called "Milkshake". I later found out that this top 3 Pop single was originally for Britney Spears. "Milkshake" helped Kelis' album, "Tasty" go gold in the US becoming her first hit album in the states.

I'm A Slave 4 U by Britney Spears
The lead single from her "In The Zone" album saw Britney Spears moaning and panting in this steamy hot video. The song was introduced to us via the MTV VMAs where Brit has become notorious for her stage performances.

Moneymaker by Ludacris featuring Pharrell
This rich, dazzling production starred Ludacris obsessing over women and their 'moneymakers'. Pharrell was featured on the chorus(of course). Pharrell would explain later that the feature of him on hooks was merely coincidental. Artists would hear Pharrell on a demo version of a sample track and liked him on it so, they'd keep him on there.

Drop It Like It's Hot by Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell
The sound effects on this track recall the sound of popcorn popping or a sound someone would make with their mouth. This title track later became a catch phrase and caught some controversy when Lil' Wayne accused Snoop of stealing his phrase, 'drop it like it's hot'.

Shake Ya Ass by Mystikal
Though he wasn't featured in the credits, Pharrell could be heard singing the pre-chorus. An agressive vocal performance by Mystikal, and a hard hitting beat made this song irresistible to the the clubs.

Hot In Herre by Nelly
A summer hit right out of the box! Nelly cashed in by creating his own take on the English language with 'herre'.

U Don't Have To Call by Usher
By 2001 The Neptunes were on and popping and Usher wanted a piece of the action. 'Call' was a kiss-off to a woman who had no time for a man let alone Usher. His celebrity status didn't seem to matter.

Boy there are so many 'greatest hits' in the Neptunes catalog that I will more than likely to a follow-up to this post.
