Music Feed: Music Fallouts
Infidelity, finger pointing, betrayal, baby mama drama, and legal disputes are just some of the reasons for music's most famous fallouts. We thought they would be together forever. You know what they say though "Nothing Lasts Forever". Here's to believing that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. I have compiled some of music's most famous fallouts.
Ashanti & Irv Gotti
Irv Gotti called out Ashanti over her lack of support for label The Inc Records during their money laundering trial. During a racy Wendy Williams interview, Irv Gotti insinuated that he and Ashanti had a steamy affair. The fallout put a damper on their working relationship. Ashanti's next album, "The Declaration" didn't feature any production or input from Irv Gotti.
Brandy & Rodney Jerkins
Brandy expressed discontent with Rodney Jerkins in a June 2004 Vibe magazine article. In the article Brandy claimed Jerkins had given away their trademark sound. Brandy's next album, "Afrodisiac" sans-Jerkins was her least successful album to date.
Amerie & Rich Harrison
Perhaps Amerie's overbearing and controlling attitude put a damper on her relationship with Rich Harrison. Harrison fronted Amerie's first two albums. He was noticeably absent from Amerie's "Because I Love It" album which wasn't released in the US.
Kelis & The Neptunes
Kelis called out The Neptunes shortly before the release of her album, "Tasty" in King magazine. The singer claimed that the superproducers "hated her". Kelis' next album, "Kelis Was Here" was her first album without The Neptunes.
Ginuwine & Timbaland
Ginuwine called out Timbaland when the producer abandoned the singer for pop acts Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. The two have expressed interest in working together again. It has yet to happen.
Missy Elliott & Timbaland
Missy Elliott still works with Timbaland. Her last few albums have seen less input or production from Timbaland. It is clear that the chemistry that was once there is somewhat strained. Blame Missy's need to break free[from Timbaland]and work with other producers such as The Neptunes.
Foxy Brown & Jay-Z
They were the 90s rap version of Bonnie & Clyde. When Foxy Brown's "Chyna Doll" album failed, Jay-Z bailed. Hurt and devastated, Foxy and Jay-Z later rejoined forces on Foxy's ill-fated "Black Roses" album which has yet to be released.
Toni Braxton & Babyface
By the mid 90s Toni Braxton was a global superstar. Unfortunately Toni Braxton was having trouble balancing her checkbook. When the singer claimed bankruptcy, she sued LaFace Records and Babyface. Luckily these two kissed and made up for her "The Heat" album. When Toni Braxton left LaFace Records behind, she left Babyface there too.
Mary J Blige & P Diddy
Puffy is responsible for giving Mary J Blige the title of "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul". He was responsible for many of Blige's early hits. Mary J Blige grew jealous of Puffy's relationship with Faith Evans and kicked him to the curb. The pair reunited 9 years later to lukewarm album sales.
Faith Evans & P Diddy
Like Mary J Blige, Puffy worked very close with Faith Evans in the beginning of her career. Puffy's desire to become an artist his self put a damper on the Bad Boy artists. One by one artists including Faith cut ties with Puffy and fled labels.
112 & P Diddy
Puffy was becoming an even bigger star than some of his own acts. By this time acts such as 112 wanted their piece of the pie. After having success with Bad Boy, the group jumped ship to Def Jam Records before disbanding 2 years later.
I hope you enjoyed this special "Music Feed". Before you know it I would have cooked up another. Thanks everyone for your continued support!
