Plies Gets No Love, Janet Gets Disciplined
Can you imagine Usher's "Love In This Club" Part 2 with Mariah Carey and Plies in place of Beyonce and Lil' Wayne? Do you think it would of sounded better? Do you prefer the current remix version? Well anyway Plies revealed that he got a call from Usher to appear on the "LITC" remix. Unfortunately his verses didn't make the cut and were in favor traded for Lil' Wayne's verses. Meanwhile Plies new album, "Defnition Of Real" will be in stores June 10. The album is preceded by first single, "Bust It Baby Part 2" featuring Ne-Yo. The second single is "Please Excuse My Hands" featuring Jamie Foxx & Dream. Elsewhere on the album collaborations include J. Holiday, Keyshia Cole, and Trey Songz. Plies is readying his next album, "The Realest" for a December 16 release. Why so many albums in such a short span of time? No one knows. It would be nice if we got more albums from artists who take years to release albums i.e. Brandy.
Wonder why we didn't get any more singles....well videos from Janet's "Discipline" album? Well it turns out her and the label have not seen eye to eye on the single choices. Since Janet and the label disagreed with the single choices, Island Def Jam stopped all promotion on the album. To date the album has sold a disappointing 392K copies. With the upcoming tour maybe album sales will pick up a little but who's to say. If you recall, Janet and her team released a couple of records after "Feedback". There was a video for "Rock With U" and "Luv" was sent to radio. The single, "Can't Be Good" was also released but none of the other singles took off like "Feedback". "Discipline" definitely had a lot of single potentials but this is yet another album gone to waste. Meanwhile Janet's upcoming weight-loss book, "Me" will be released this November just in time for the holiday season.
Radio shock jock Wendy Williams is getting her own daytime talk show titled, "The Wendy Williams Show" will air on FOX Detroit, New York, L.A. and Dallas networks starting July 14 - August 22. The show will appear as a limited engagement mainly to see if the show picks up another viewers in hopes of adding more syndicates and a full seasons worth of episodes. Good luck to Wendy! I think I will be watching.
Monica will debut her new reality show, "The Single: Monica" in August. The show is just like any other reality show. It will follow Monica as she juggles motherhood and her career. The show will premiere on Peachtree TV which is an Atlanta based channel (I believe). The show is through Turner Network, the same company behind such networks as CNN, TBS, and TNT. I will post more information on the show as it becomes available.
Missy Elliott appears on the latest issue of Billboard magazine. The 5-time Grammy winner will release her new album, "Block Party" this August. If you recall Missy's album was titled, "FANomenal" but she later changed it. I think "Block Party" is a much better title and now I'm somewhat excited to see what Missy has cooked up for us this time.
Amerie is no longer signed to Columbia Records! There were rumors awhile back stating the singer has jumped ship to Def Jam though its been unconfirmed. Amerie released 3 albums on Columbia: "All I Have", "Touch", and "Because I Love It". Amerie recently revealed that she is working on a new album.
Diddy is going back to being called Puff Daddy. I don't know what's with the various change in stage names. Meanwhile Diddy........I mean Puff Daddy will release a new album in December 2008. And just when we thought "Press Play" would be his last album, he lied to us!
