Music News: India Arie Goes Universal
Another one bites the dust. India.Arie has left UniversalMotown Records for simply Universal Records. The singer no longer wanted to work under head Sylvia Rhone, who the singer had creative differences with. Arie felt her last album, "Testimony" was not promoted properly. It is no longer surprising to learn an artist is unhappy with their label, let alone their boss. Sylvia Rhone has a reputation for being "difficult" and shelving and/or delaying albums. During her Elektra Records tenure she shelved/delayed albums from Nicole Wray, Gina Thompson, and Lil' Mo. Most recently Mya's "Liberation" album was shelved which was through UniversalMotown Records. Something in the milk ain't clean.
Heather Headley best known for her hit, "I Wish I Wasn't" has left her label RCA Records. The singer will release her next album on EMI Gospel. The untitled album will feature appearances from Smokie Norful, Kierra Sheard, and The Clark Sisters.
