Blast From The Past - Sparkle

Remember her? Sparkle's self-titled debut album went platinum off the strength of her one and only hit, "Be Careful" featuring R. Kelly. Hailing for Chicago, Sparkle born Stephanie Edwards sang backup from another R. Kelly protege the late singer, Aaliyah. On how she got her name, Kelly saw the snowflakes on her face when coming in from the snow and named her Sparkle. While "Be Careful" was Sparkle's only hit, singles and videos were released for "Time To Move On" and "What About". Rumors started to emerge regarding Sparkle and her relationship with Kelly since much wasn't known about her at time. People assumed Kelly was dating Sparkle and personally had placed a gag order on the singer prior to her short success. The relationship between Sparkle and Kelly eventually dissolved when the two couldn't agree on how Sparkle's second album would be received. Sparkle eventually jumped ship to Motown Records and worked exclusively with producer/writer Steve Huff (worked with Avant) on her second album, "Told Ya So". The album produced a minor R&B hit with "It's A Fact" but ultimately the album bombed. Supposedly feeling resentment towards R. Kelly, Sparkle launched an attack on the singer when she claimed the singer had an affair with her niece (who reportedly starred in R. Kelly's infamous sextape). Kelly insisted that Sparkle just had an axe to grind and simply wanted to get even for promotional gain. Regardless of Sparkle's small level of success, I still bump her debut album to this day.
