The Daily Roundup: Kanye Flashes Light
Ashanti - The Way That I Love You
I like the Ashanti video and the concept behind it. I had no idea the video would be out so soon.
Kanye West - Flashing Lights
All this time I was thinking this video was out but how I never saw it or heard much about it. The video is just alright but the concept is pretty weird. I do give him kudos for being different though.
I was watching E! and they were doing their Grammy recap. One of the hosts made mention that this year's Grammy telecast ratings were low. You definitely wouldn't think so after all the talk and controversy that has surrounded this otherwise supposed traditional ceremony. From Nas & Kelis adorning "Nigger" gear to singer Natalie Cole calling out Amy Winehouse, the Grammy Awards continues to be a hot topic nearly 3 days after its telecast. Who could forget the shocking body language between Rihanna & Jay-Z when they won "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration" for the monster hit, "Umbrella". Now the latest controversy to arise from the
Grammy's is a blunder from the Grammy writers and Beyonce that has legendary diva Aretha Franklin upset. During Beyonce's introductory performance saluting the many successful Black female singers (including Aretha), Beyonce referred to idol Tina Turner as "The Queen". Aretha took offense because for years she has been known as "The Queen (of soul)" but Beyonce never said "The Queen of Soul" just "The Queen". I think Aretha was simply being a diva. Aretha was being a diva all night which explains why Mary J. Blige didn't perform "Never Gonna Break My Faith" with her.
Network CW has cancelled the long-running black sitcom "Girlfriends" which stars actress Tracee Ellis Ross. The show ran for 9 seasons and is/was the #1 show in Black households. "Girlfriends" lost a lot of its viewership when favorite cast member, Jill Marie Jones left the show to pursue other acting opportunities. The cancellation of "Girlfriends" came rather sudden and without notice from the network. This is isn't the first time this happened. In 1985 after a 11-year run TV show "The Jeffersons" cast member Sherman Hemsley didn't find out from CBS the show was getting cancelled. He read it in the newspaper. Ouch!
