MySpace Profile Showcase - Interview - Seanmichael Rodgers

Seanmichael Rodgers has his hands full literally. In between being a CEO of a very successful university and managing an up and coming group, ****(4 Stars), Seanmichael Rodgers found time in his busy schedule to talk exclusively with Cigna's Sounds & Views. It is a very candid look into Seanmichael's life as we know it and then some. You ready?

Interview Date: 5/30/07

1. Tell everyone what is the inspiration behind Harlem Boy University?
The trend of artist coming and going at such a rapid pace.

2. Harlem Boy University sounds like a college, what is the meaning behind the name?
We are a team of professors, and the artists that enroll are students. We are based in Harlem.

3. So you say your a CEO? Explain to us all what a CEO is and what role does a CEO serve?
I execute the daily duties of visionary, take no for an answer from everyone, oversee the financial obligations of the coursework, solicit sponsorships, recruit the best team possible, assess the potential, and progression of every artist.

4. Describe your work ethic?
Until the job gets done, we work. We don't socialize, we don't befriend, we work. We don't go to the industry parties to mingle, we work. We don't wait around for the deal, we create the demand. We don't desire to be famous, we get the work done.

5. You have a group out! What can you tell us about this group? And how are they different from other groups?
****, pronounced 4Stars is a male pop/R&B group. The name defines who they are as well as the high quality of everything they do. They are the first graduates of HBU. They made their debut on Myspace on June 1st with 4,000 fans anticipating their faces, music, and video footage.

6. Has your group undergone a "Making The Band" type regime? And would you refer to yourself as a Diddy like CEO?
It's been worse for them and its been better. We at HBU have not chosen to recreate what Diddy has done. We have our own formula that consists of courses in Music Business, Red Carpet Etiquette, Music Theory, Recording 101, Production 101, Songwriting 101, Choreography 101, Knowing your It Factor, and many other courses. Each yearlong student has a customized regime that will strengthen their weaknesses as well as balance the strengths of each group member or in a soloist, perfect it. Unlike Diddy, I am not an artist. And that certainly plays a role in his development of acts. I certainly have my own style.

7. What big names have you worked with?
Toni Braxton, Fergie, Tyrese, Coko from SWV, 3LW, and many more.

8. How do you feel about music in its current state? And where do you see it in 5 years?
I predict the rise of R&B to new heights with only two diamond albums during that time and both of them being R&B acts. I predict in 5 years, Ciara & Rihanna will give off the same heat as Brandy and Monica. I predict Jay-Z would have left Def Jam and G-Unit will be an afterthought.

9. Any last thoughts you wish to leave the readers with?
What one believes, one becomes. What one speaks, one becomes. So speak and think your destiny.
