Just Like Her

It's 3:45 a.m. and I can't sleep. I go to work in the morning. I usually get up around 8:30 a.m. and is out the house an hour later. I fell asleep earlier watching The Grudge, and now I'm not sleepy right now. I decided to continue with my Beyonce rant this week. This time I decided to profile female R&B singers who are always compared to Beyonce.

  • Christina Milian - A sexy makeover (including blond hair and a sexy video) turned Milian into an overnight sex symbol. Milian has stated in the past that she has not set out to mimic Beyonce. Maybe it is just the people around her. It doesn't help when every female R&B singer uses the same hair, make-up, and stylist. No wonder why so many of them are so similar.
  • Amerie - Producer Rich Harrison has worked extensively with both Amerie and Beyonce. At times both women seem to mimic each other in some fashion. Beyonce can often sound like Amerie on songs. Amerie can prance around scantily clad in videos a la Beyonce.
  • Mary J. Blige - One look at her "Breakthrough" album insert and you will see the startling Beyonce-like makeover. Complete with blond hair and all. Even though Mary is responsible for the blond look. Beyonce definitely brought it back.
  • Mariah Carey - The Emancipation of Mimi album cover. Mariah defended the album cover after it was initially released. She said it was no way inspired by Beyonce. Strangely enough the team responsible for doing Beyonce's "Dangerously In Love" album photo shoot did Mariah's. Who's fooling who here?
  • Ashanti - Ashanti and Beyonce were neck in neck in '03. Beyonce eventually came out on top. Ashanti was styled very similar to Beyonce. Who could forget them wearing the same white dress? (in videos and photo shoots) I don't think Ashanti wants to be Beyonce. I think it is the people around her who style her to be. That's the case with many artists anyway.
  • Kelis - When everyone goes left, Kelis goes right. Certainly there is no need to compare these two. Strangely enough they are always compared. The common factor is their sexy styles and relationships with Hip-Hop legends.

Rule of thumb: if you have to use lotion after you shower in fear of looking ashey, blonde hair is "not" for you. Now that's honey, bronze, autum sunrise, etc. It looks awful.
