Pop's Good Girl goes hard!

2006 has been quite a year for Christina Milian. Early 2006 saw the breakup of Christina and Nick Cannon. The couple had been together for over two years. They starred in the film, Love Don't Cost A Thing where they met and started dating. Nick was the envy of many men around the world for bagging Christina. Mid 2006 saw the nasty breakup between Christina and Nick. The story goes that Christina had been snooping around in Nick's sidekick. She discovered some phone numbers and text messages from an unknown female. Christina later stated in an interview that the said female was in the entertainment business but declined to reveal her identity. The one clue Christina provided was that the female was not that famous but known. How could you Nick? That was the question many wanted to ask. The whole breakup created a buzz around Christina's upcoming album, So Amazin'. This was the album that was set to take Christina to the next level. She was half way there when she released the assertive first single, Say I featuring Young Jeezy. Many questioned the song's lyrical content saying it wasn't believable. Why? Christina has never been thought to be hood. She is pop! Not hood. Nonetheless the song was hot and went to #13R&B/#21 Pop on the Billboard charts. The single became Christina's second biggest single thus far. With Say I climbing the charts, Christina went into full gear. The album was shipping GOLD (500,000), magazine layouts were set, and TV appearances were announced.

So Amazin' was originally set to be released on April 25th, but was pushed to May 16th. It just so happened that another upcoming songbird, Rihanna was set to release her album on the same day (April 25th). Christina and Rihanna were also labelmates and both vying for the pop crowd. Christina vying more for the R&B crowd this time around obviously. What hurt Christina was her album being leaked a whole month before it's initial release. By the time the album debut in mid May, the album tanked. It debuted at dismal #11 Pop with 55K sold. Not the projection Def Jam/Island had hoped for. The second single, Gonna Tell Everybody was being readied for release to boost album sales. After dismal sales of the album contined, Def Jam dropped Christina ending their nearly 10 year working relationship. Many were surprised but not surprised by the drop. Christina released three albums through Def Jam/Island. None of them were stellar sellers. It was certainly no surprise to me! Christina again made the headlines. Everything from Christina not getting along with L.A. Reid (Def Jam CEO) to her boyfriend's (Dre) involvement in the record were speculation to her getting dropped. Christina began making the rounds again to discuss the seperation. Christina said it was just time for her to move on and her and the label didn't agree. The real reason was she couldn't sell any records! That's the honest truth!

Christina said she's close to signing a new recording deal. We shall be hearing new music from her by next year she said courtesy of her myspace page some time ago. By the time August arrived Christina had a film to promote. It was the remake of the Japanese horror thriller, Pulse. The movie debuted making $8 million dollars and went on to gross nearly 20 million dollars as of September.

2006 was truly an interesting year for Christina Milian. More people definitely know who she is now with all the various rumors. What does the future hold for Christina Milian? Who knows. Will she ever have a hit record? Maybe. Will she continue acting? The girl has to pay her bills.
