Kelly Rowland To Release New Single

During her stint at New York's coveted Fashion Week festivities; Kelly Rowland got more than enough camera time to promote her new single, "Motivation". The singer will be shooting a video for the new single in L.A. The new album will hopefully follow suit. If you recall last year, Kelly Rowland was supposed to release a new album but basically started from scratch. I read that the album may also be called, "Motivation" but we will see.

Carl Thomas is returning to the spotlight with a new album, "Conquer" to be released in stores and online this June. The singer just inked a deal with Verve Music Group; which is also the current label for Avant. The singer describes his upcoming album as a homage to his first album; "Emotional" which went platinum. The album will feature production from Mario Winans, Mike City, Rico Love, and Bryan Michael-Cox.

Jennifer Lopez will release her new album, "Love?" on March 29. The album features the first hit single, "On The Floor" featuring Pitbull. The album recently leaked out awhile ago so I'm not sure if the album has or will be modified due to the leak. The album faces stiff competition as it will be released the same day as Britney Spears' "Femme Fatale", Snoop Dogg's "Doggumentary", and Wiz Khalifa's "Rolling Papers". Should be interesting?

Jim Jones Releases Capo Album Cover

Jim Jones will release his new album on April 5. I'm not even sure the name of his current single right now(just being honest). I do now that Jim Jones will be appearing in a new VH1 reality show; "Love & Hip Hop". I'm not sure when the show will air. I assume that after VH1's current Sunday lineup ends; "Love & Hip Hop" will air. If you haven't heard of the show; it starts Swizz Beats' ex-wife; Mashonda, former G-Unit singer; Olivia, Fabolous Baby Mama as well as Jim Jones' Baby Mama.

Music Feed: Babyface Duets

We all know Babyface for his many compositions he has wrote and produced over the years whether it be for Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, or Brandy. A successful artist in his own right; Babyface would see many of his own solo output compete with his productions for other artists.

Over the years Babyface has partnered up with some rather fashionable and exquisite singers and brought us some rather memorable if not classic songs you can check out below:

Love Saw It, Karyn White Featuring Babyface
I know I'm not the only one who remembers this song from Karyn White's 1989 debut album. It definitely is one of the stand out songs on that album and the song was later sampled by Da Brat on a track called; "We Ready" from her "Unrestricted" album released back in 2000.

Slow Jams, Babyface Featuring Tamia
Quincy Jones was grooming Tamia to be one of our many divas like Whitney Houston back in the day and she got the privilege to not only work with someone as extraordinary as Quincy Jones but also Babyface.

Love Makes Things Happen, Pebbles Featuring Babyface
Just a day or two ago I featured this very video on the site as a Throwback Video. The song appeared on one of Pebbles' albums but I'd be lying to you if you asked me which one. I mean after all Pebbles' albums weren't as memorable as many of her singles. Sorry! Love Pebbles though!

Give U My Heart, Babyface Featuring Toni Braxton
Before Toni Braxton became a worldwide phenomenon; she appeared alongside Babyface for this single which was lifted from the "Boomerang" soundtrack which starred Eddie Murphy. Remember that?

There you have it; a few duets that feature Babyface and like I said they are all quite memorable or classic if you dare call them that.

Wiz Khalifa Unveils Rolling Papers Album Cover

He has been ruling radio with his #1 smash, "Black & Yellow" and taking over with "Roll Up"; I think that's the name of the song. I just had a brain freeze. Well anyway that song is produced by Stargate(worked with Ne-Yo) and the video features Cassie. Check out Wiz Khalifa's new album in stores and online on March 29.

Brandy Essence Magazine Interview

Brandy appeared at an Essence luncheon honoring actresses Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Viola Davis. Brandy talks about what Essence magazine means to her and what's new for her.

Music Biz:
Nicki Minaj Speaks On Trust Issues
Nicki Minaj struggles to trust people and no longer knows who her friends are. Nicki Minaj no longer knows who her friends are. The 26-year-old rapper has started to doubt the motives of her pals since finding fame and has no idea who she can or can’t trust anymore.
She said: “I’m not a trusting person. I think it’s because I’ve had to deal with so many people letting me down.”I’ve lost my peace of mind. I no longer know who’s my friend or my enemy. I don’t know if they’re calling me because they like me or because they want a photo op, and that’s not a good feeling. I’m always second-guessing everyone, trying to figure out, ‘Who is this person, and what do they want from me?’ ”
The ‘Massive Attack’ singer explained one of the reasons why she struggles to trust her friends was she was recently invited to a pal’s house, only for three strangers to come in and ask her to sign their CDs. She told BlackBook magazine: “I wasn’t expecting that from one my closest friends.”
Despite her frustration, Nicki insists she is still happy to be famous, though she has learned to appreciate that being valued for her work is more important than being recognized.
She said: “I’ve always wanted fame. But when I achieved fame, I started realising that it wasn’t as important as being great at what you do, or being critically acclaimed. Still, I never wish I wasn’t famous.”
Remy Ma Denied Appeal
Remy Ma's appeal of her conviction was rejected by a Court of Appeals today (February 24th).

Remy Ma was convicted of shooting her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph in July of 2007, during an argument over $3,000.

The rapper was sentenced to eight years in prison for criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the Associated Press, a court rejected Remy Ma's argument that jurors were not properly informed before the guilty verdict was rendered.

Remy Ma, who is serving her prison time at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, is slated to be released in 2013

Nicki Minaj Done With Collabos

At least for the next two years that is. Of course there is an exception to every rule as Nicki might or might not collaborate with Britney Spears and whatever big name comes calling for example; Beyonce.

Some people think Nicki is getting a little big headed with a comment like that but celebrities say the darnest things sometimes. Nicki's collaborations is where she shines to most people and I think her comments were based on her not just being a collabos type artist. I mean I don't think so anymore. She has proven herself as a solo act in the last few months with her debut album.

Foxy Brown has spoken out against Lil' Kim's tirade against Nicki Minaj and she feels Kim should just focus on putting out "great music". I can agree with this. As far as Foxy she dodged rumors that she was thrown out of a fashion party and spoke on her oft-delayed album, "Black Roses". Foxy stated the album would be a double album(the first by a female rapper) and one side will feature hardcore Hip Hop and the other will feature Dancehall(which has become Foxy's stock in trade over the years). Foxy hopes to have the album out by August or September.

I guess that sounds reasonable instead of her saying the album will be out next month when we all know it wouldn't be. Foxy Brown's "Black Roses" album is much like Dr. Dre's "Detox" album with the ever changing release dates.

I was on twitter Friday night and Rihanna and Ciara were involved in a "twitter beef". I'm not sure of the exact origin but the singers were trading disses back and forth. I believe since then the two singers reportedly patched things up.

Throwback Video: Pebbles Featuring Babyface - Love Makes Things Happen

I stumbled upon this video and it brought back a lot of memories from watching The Box! Remember that channel?

It got me thinking about Babyface and his various collaborative efforts with females. I smell an upcoming post coming dedicated to that.

Chris Brown's Restraining Order Lifted

Things just keep getting better for Chris Brown. His restraining order involving Rihanna has been lifted. You can read more about that below. In addition to that you can check out the tracklisting of his new album and Aretha Franklin speaks out on Fantasia's decision to skip the Grammy's! Check it out!

In a downtown Los Angeles court on Tuesday, a judge altered the restraining order imposed upon the singer following his brutal beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna after a 2009 pre-Grammy Awards party.

The restraining order has been replaced by a "level one order." Brown, who was in court with his attorney Mark Geragos, is now allowed to be around Rihanna, provided he abides by certain conditions.

"I'm approving the order," Judge Patricia Schnegg told Brown, according to Radar Online. "You can't annoy, molest, or conduct surveillance of the person on the order."

Rihanna was not present in the courtroom, but her lawyer, Donald Etra, was. "I have spoken with my client, and she does not object to it being modified to a level one order," he said.

It's been just over two years since the assault, which resulted in Brown being ordered to stay at least 50 feet away from Rihanna. Brown pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to five years probation and more than 1400 hours of "labor-oriented service."

In November, Schnegg praised Brown for his progress since his initial sentencing. "Of all probationers I've ever had, and I've had thousands of probationers, no one has ever done a better or more consistent job than you have," the judge said at a progress hearing, and on Tuesday, she spoke positively of Brown's participation in domestic violence counseling.

Aretha Franklin Speaks On Fantasia's Grammy Boycott!
“I was sorry to hear that Fantasia was upset because she did not get the opportunity to participate in my GRAMMY Tribute this year. I recall that in the past, Fantasia participated in both my MusicCares Person of the Year Tribute and my United Negro College Fund Tribute. Fantasia is still young in the business and although we all love and appreciate her she must understand that in this business of show business she will not always get to participate in everything she would like to participate in. I’m sure it was not an intentional omission. I will see Fantasia over the summer here in Detroit.”

Throwback Video: Brownstone - If You Love Me

I remember when my mother bought this cassette single(remember those) and she would play it so much that it used to get on my nerves; she did that a lot with countless other songs. Some I would like instantly while others I grew to like overtime and this is one of those I think.

If you recall Brownstone was signed to Michael Jackson's MJJ Music Group imprint which was through Sony Records.

Producer Spotlight: Chink Santana

It's been awhile since I did a Producer Spotlight feature and you might of got the impression I ran out of producers to feature; not exactly true. I just have to sit and think about who I haven't featured yet. So I just happen to pop open an issue of Billboard magazine and I read a story on Keyshia Cole and her new single, "Take Me Away" which was produced by today's Producer Spotlight; Chink Santana.

The famed producer was born Andre Parker and hails from Washington D.C. He was apart of a rap group which caught the attention of Irv Gotti before he brought he to work for The Inc. Together the two would collaborate on a number of high profile albums and singles most notably from artists under The Inc. moniker. Check out some of his discography below:

  • Happy, Baby, Rock With U, Rain On Me - Ashanti
  • Me & My Boyfriend, Toni Braxton
  • Feelin' You, Hustler, Lloyd
  • Situations, Take Me Away - Keyshia Cole
  • Judgment Day, Put Your Gun Away - Ms. Dynamite
  • Thug Lovin', Mesmerize - Ja Rule
  • Emotionless, I Know - Jim Jones
  • Tha Comeback, Lil' J

Jennifer Hudson Where You At Video Preview

It's funny because I was with my friend and this song came on the radio. We both said that we didn't like the song. A little after the song had been on; my friend started singing along. I said "I thought you didn't like this". She said "Well I keep hearing it on the radio"; that's what happens. When you hear certain songs over and over you start to like them and now I kind of like this.

Jennifer Hudson's "I Remember Me" album will be in stores and online March 22.

Music Biz:
Jill Scott Settles Lawsuit With Label

We may see an album from Jill Scott really soon. The Soul/R&B diva and her long time record label have settled their lawsuit over their recording agreement.

In the suit, Hidden Beach Records wanted unspecified damages for the money lost when Scott allegedly failed to fulfill her release obligations but Scott countersued, claiming Hidden Beach broke promises made to her.

In court papers filed with Judge Ruth A. Kwan, lawyers for Hidden Beach state that the case was resolved but all terms were kept private.

Scott’s last official studio release was 2007's Grammy nominated Gold certified album The Real Thin. Since then, she portrayed Big Mama Thornton in the film "Hounddog," had a prominent role in Tyler Perry's feature film, Why Did I Get Married? and the lead role of the HBO series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Scott was recently added to the 2011 Essence Music Festival roster.

Kanye West All Of The Lights Music Video

I wasn't a big fan of Kanye's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" album but "All Of The Lights" is easily one of my favorite songs from that album. It doesn't make it any better that the song is constantly played when I'm listening to the radio which made me like it anymore.

Nice video overall and its what we'd come to expect from both; Kanye & Hype Williams. I was just thinking because my friend said Rihanna is always in some swimsuit or barely dressed; I see now but I'm not complaining. I like it!

Sometimes if other message boards I frequently visit post a video up; I'll include it here if its something I really like. I like Brandy's "Full Moon" song as well as the album and I remember my friend and I were pretty crazy about it at one time.

I'll be glad once Brandy does decide to return to music. I think I'm over her and her reality TV stints. I mean it is good for her because its put her back out in the spotlight but now its time to concentrate on the music.

Alicia Keys To Release New Album This Year

Producer Krucial Keys has revealed that Alicia Keys is back in the studio and plans to release a new album this year. If you know Alicia Keys and how she puts out albums; its likely to be released during the holidays. Alicia's last album, "The Element Of Freedom" went platinum but was underwhelming in sales due to some of the bad press she received from dating and marrying Swizz Beats. Despite that she still churned a respectable hit single such as the #1, "Un-Thinkable(I'm Ready)".

Those anticipating Lloyd's new album, "King Of Hearts" will have to wait a little longer. The album will now be released on April 19. The album features the new single, "Cupid" as well as the hit single, "Lay It Down".

Keri Hilson is releasing "One Night Stand" as the next single from her album, "No Boys Allowed". The song features Chris Brown and a video is currently in the works.

I see Keri and her team are playing it smart by releasing the single with Chris Brown especially since he's ruling the charts right now.

Music Biz:
Monica Plans Second Wedding!

Yes Monica tied the knot secretly last year but I guess this will be the one for public consumption!
Nothing says Valentine’s Day at E! Online like some celebrity wedding scoop. R&B singer Monica and L.A. Lakers player Shannon Brown are getting married again this summer—to each other.

Huh? Keep reading for the walk-down-the-aisle details…

“Our first wedding was in our home, but we’re going to do it again so that our family can enjoy it,” Monica told me yesterday at the Grammys.

The two announced last month that they quietly tied the knot in November after getting engaged the month before.

“We’re going to go all out and have a good time,” Monica said. “I’m Southern and he’s from Chicago. I’m very close to my mom and my family, but I’m also very close to my in-laws, so we just want to have one big party.”

Location?

“I think we’re going to do it here or in Europe,” Monica said. “We’re going to have to decide over the next week. But you know, what we did was we it with each other, for each other and committed our lives to one another, so we didn’t really need anybody else there.”

As for a wedding dress, Monica’s thinking something from her Grammys designer, Stephane Roland: “I want to talk to them and see if they make gowns because I wasn’t something really edgy and really fun.”
Ne-Yo Disses Use Of Auto-Tune
Didn't Jay-Z do this too? Read below for the full story!
Ne-Yo recently spoke out regarding the overuse of Auto-Tune, the vocoder-like vocal effect popularized by artists like Akon and T-Pain. The 'Beautiful Monster' singer explained that the audio processor should be used to support singers by assisting their tired vocal chords during extended recording sessions, not as an actual "sound," becuase it obscures their natural singing voice.

"You don't want to blow your throat out trying to do the same note a thousand times, so you sing it a few good times and you let the Auto-Tune catch whatever notes fall out," Ne-Yo explained. "It was not meant to be wings. You were not supposed to strap it on your back and jump out the building, that is not what Auto-Tune was meant to be."

The singer/songwriter, whose production team Stargate, scored one of 2010's biggest hits with Wiz Khalifa's 'Black and Yellow,' continued to call Auto-Tune's saturated use in hip-hop "wack," saying artists who employ the effect as a signature sound like "robots."

"If you using it for what it's meant for, cool, fine and good," Ne-Yo continued. "I feel like the best singers do... Not 'I can't sing at all so let's just turn Auto-tune all the way up so that I sound like Willie the robot,' that's wack! That's terrible, it takes all the character outta your voice and you become a robot. You hear it on the radio and you go 'who is that?' and you have no idea because everybody sounds the same. If you're a singer, sing!"

Ne-Yo is currently hard at work on his highly-anticipated fifth album, which does not yet have a release date. He will also star in two forthcoming films, 'Red Tails' and 'Battle: Los Angeles,' both scheduled for summer 2011 release.

Rihanna To Tour With Cee-Lo

Rihanna is embarking on her "Loud" tour which is named after her recently released album which is nearing platinum status if it hasn't already. Look out for those dates to see if the shows are coming to a city near you.

My friend and I were talking about Rihanna last night and how many albums she's put out thus far which I believe is stands at five. Her newest single, "S&M" recently hit the Top 10 making it her 18th Top Ten hit which puts her in fourth place behind Whitney(23), Janet and Mariah(27), and Madonna(32..I believe). Punch Rihanna!

I just read that Beyonce is one song away from completing her fourth album. There hasn't been much revealed about Beyonce's new album but I know her fans are thirsty for it. Last I read Beyonce's new album would be out in September. Producer Sean Garrett is attached to the project and has already spoke about it.

In other Beyonce news there have been rumors that her and Jay-Z are breaking up! Take that with a grain of salt! It's not everyday we hear that their marriage is in trouble but we do hear that Beyonce is pregnant every few months.

Lil' Kim went on record to confront those who have poked fun at the sales of her latest mixtape, "Black Friday". According to Kim's people, the mixtape has sold in access of 113K units. A lot of people are finding Kim's findings ludicrous. Who knows at this point? I mean I really don't care but she has a lot of people talking right now.

Kim also spoke about the views for her video for "Black Friday" which at presstime stand at 2.5 million and Kim wondered why no questions that but questions the sales of her mixtape? Good point!

I remember City High had a lot of buzz upon their release. They were even compared to The Fugees due in part to their affiliation with Wyclef Jean who appears in the "Caramel" video.

Fantasia Mad About Aretha Franklin Grammy Tribute

I was just reading that Fantasia was upset that she didn't get asked to take part in the Aretha Franklin tribute at this year's Grammy's. Fantasia looks up to Aretha very much and I think I would of liked to see her up there, but there will be other chances. For the singers they had pay tribute to her; I thought they all did a pretty good job and that was my personal highlight of the show and basically the only thing I watched anyway.

Monica has decided against a second season of her BET reality show; "Still Standing". The show which also served as the title of her most recent album helped Monica thrust back into the spotlight. Her "Still Standing" album went gold and spawned two hit singles. Currently the singer is working on her new album, "New Life" in time for a release this summer. Looking forward to it!

Lloyd just released his third single, "Cupid" from his upcoming album, "King Of Hearts" in stores and online this March(if I'm not mistaken). "Cupid" is being billed as his third single but I was thinking this was the second. Who knows?

Dr. Dre Upset At 50 Cent

50 Cent has upset the Doctor. In a series of tweets, the G-Unit rapper revealed that the super-producer is not happy with him after he decided to launch his own line of headphones.

The music mogul introduced his Sleek by 50 Cent wireless headphones last month, going up against Dre’s popular Beats by Dr. Dre. “Jimmy iovine and dre mad at me cause I’m doing sleek by 50,” he tweeted. “I guess I’m not going to be on detox Lol.”

He continued, “I’m a little hurt jimmy and dre feel like that but f*ck it. I’m focused I got a surprise for everybody this go round.”

The outspoken hip-hop star has supposedly addressed the situation in his music. “Would you faint if I told you I just wrote a verse about jimmy and dre. Oh my god this is hard. This shit gonna kill,” he said. “Em gonna have a heart attack when he hear this sh*t damn lol.”

50 was not pleased when Dre launched his headphones and didn’t include him and Eminem. “I don’t get it when they did there deal I didn’t get upset. Now I’m mad they didn’t put me or EM in that deal. F*ck this sh*t I QUIT,” he said before laughing it off. “Okok I’m done talkin bout jimmy n dre, I love them, they hate me, so what?…f*ck it. Lol.”

The-Dream To Release New Album

The-Dream is pulling out all the stops. The singer-songwriter, who has worked with everyone from Mariah Carey to Kim Kardashian, is reaching out to an all-star roster for his next album, which he plans to pack with more guest stars than ever before.

Previously called Love Affair, the fourth installemt in his Love series will now be titled The Love, IV, he tells MTV News.

“This album is gonna have more features, which is unique for me, ’cause I usually don’t carry a lot of features,” he says of the follow-up to last year’s Love King. “I’m calling it out now. I’m cashing in my chips. I’m gonna try to get everybody, Wayne, [Kanye], Jay, Drake, Mary, anybody that I’ve worked with or [loaned] a hand to, I’m trying to get on my album.”

Though The-Dream previously announced that he wanted the album out by August, he has set a tentative June 7 date. In addition to working with his partner Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, he also plans to hit the studio with producers Polow Da Don, Carlos McKinney, and possibly Dr. Dre.

Marsha Ambrosius Solo Album Pushed Back A Week

To March 1. Since the beginning Marsha's album has been plagued by numerous pushbacks. I mean it happens. It doesn't surprise me. I like Marsha and her voice. I just read someone saying she sounds like a cat in heat! I can't say I'm all that excited about her album, "Late Nights & Early Mornings" but I definitely will be giving it a listen.

The album contains the two singles, "Far Away" with his its semi-controversial video(YouTube it if you haven't seen it) and "Hope She Cheats On You(With A Basketball Player).

Lil' Kim's ghostwriter has apparently got fired for all the wack lyrics he's been submitting to her. Angry and upset he took to his twitter account and aired her out in typical fired ghostwriter fashion. He claims to have been writing for her for the last three years. Sad!

Well hopefully Kim starts back writing or employs some better ghostwriters. I'm still surprised she didn't write the "La Bella Mafia" album.

El DeBarge has re-entered rehab. The singer has been in and out of rehab over the years or should I say he's battled a public drug problem. The singer recently released his album, "Second Chance" which features the Top 20 R&B hit; "Lay With You" featuring Faith Evans.

Lil' Kim Black Friday Mixtape Cover

Yesterday Lil' Kim released her mixtape, "Black Friday" named after the dis track to Nicki Minaj. Instead of the mixtape being free; the mixtape is available for purchase via Lil' Kim's website I assume. I'm not sure of an address; Google it!

A few tracks had leaked out; some in full and some in snippet form including "Clap Clap" and "Warning", a dis to Nicki Minaj(again) over Nicki's own, "Did It On 'Em".

I feel like this whole mixtape has been a disaster in the making. Upon the release of the mixtape, Lil' Kim fired her ghostwriter who took to twitter and exposed Kim. Talk about a Black Friday!

I started to think that Faith Evans gave up on her "Something About Faith" album which yielded the Top 40 R&B hit, "Gone Already". But apparently she has not and I guess that's a good thing.

I definitely didn't like the "Something About Faith" album but I will say I like this video and the video made me like this song more.

Sean Garrett is making another attempt at a solo career and we all will have to see how this turns out. The producer is signed to Roc Nation/Columbia Records which will release his album this summer. Sean Garrett's first album didn't see a release here in the states even though he had a hit single with "Grippin" featuring Ludacris.

I do like "Feel Love" and the video is okay I guess.

Ciara Speaks On Record Label Rumors

Ciara finally addresses the rumors of her being dropped from Jive. Read below to see what she says! I guess this came from her fansite or twitter or one of the social networking sites. Last I read her fansite was closed down but I'm not sure how accurate that info is.

To my fans:
This week the net has been a buzz of the rumor that I have been dropped from my label. At this point that rumor is false.. It is true that I have asked and I pray that my label will release me. I have had some great times and success with my label, but sometimes like all great things, its at that point where I feel we don't share the same views on who I am as a artist. The past two albums have been very frustrating for me. At times there were songs I chose to lead a project and I was ignored! This project, I even tried to get Gimmie Dat started I spent tens of thousands of my own money only to hear the radio pds tell me my label didn't want the song played. I even spent more than one hundred thousand dollars out of my pocket on the video to bring my vision to it and still no label support. I do understand that some labels are not financially supporting their artists and I have become one of them. You, my fans, know that I strive to do my best to deliver to my you the best songs and creative vision I possibly can. I'm dedicated to my music, performance and to my fans! I've tried to be a team player with the label only to have compromised what I truly believed.. And was not given the right opportunity to promote and inform my fans of the release of this album..I have so much of me as a artist I still want to give to the world and my fans. A release would allow me to go be creative with people who care and understand me as a artist. In a short time, I will be able to bring to you a new music energy and a visual excitement! Thank you so much for standing by me through the good, bad, and the confusion. I love you all.

Chris Brown may of went home empty handed at the Grammy's; which I heard he was pretty upset about but personally what he was nominated for didn't deserve Grammy's. Sorry! Well maybe "Dueces" but that's it! Anyway Chris finally releases the cover for his new album which will be in stores either March 22 or March 29. I say that because it keeps switching. Music Biz:
Musiq To Release New Album

Musiq Soulchild is putting the finishing touches on his next album, "MUSIQINTHEMAGIQ," with a planned release date of May 3.

"It's recorded. It's done," the singer tells Billboard.com. "We just need to take the actual songs and mix those and put the project together. I'm ultimately going to pick, like, 12 (songs) out of 50 or so that we have."

Musiq says the sound of the album, his follow-up to 2008's "Onmyradio," is still being determined. "It's a lot of songs floating around in so many different directions," he explains. "Ultimately I just know that I"m going to maintain the soulful, positive energy that I"ve had on all my other projects. There's definitely a lot of hip-hop elements, classic soul elements, R&B elements. There's a gospel and bluesy tone, a little jazz and I even take a more classical approach with some of the arrangements as far as the structure of the songs."

Lyrically, meanwhile, Musiq says the new songs "are talking about relationships, taking a realistic approach rather than more fantastical things people do. I'd rather talk about things that go on everyday, things people can identify with."

Musiq has already released the first single from the album, "Anything," which features Swizz Beatz and was produced by Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis. "It's a feel-good record," Musiq says. "It's real high-energy, uptempo. People really respond well to those kinds of records. It's a song Jerry Wonda had, and I thought it was pretty cool. The label seemed to like it. We're all collectively attempting to push things into a slightly new direction -- more of a crossover, more of a pop appeal. But I definitely always contribute my soulful element, my personal vibe."

Musiq hasn't lined up any additional guests for the album but notes that "anything is subject to change between now and the release of the album. A lot can change in the mixing process."

While he's doing that, Musiq -- whose "Sobeautiful" is featured on "The Love EP," Atlantic/Elektra's digital Valentine's Day release -- is planning to play sporadic shows, starting Feb. 12 in Detroit. "I always like to reintroduce myself because, in a way, it kind of keeps me in a fresh perspective," he says. "It keeps me from getting jaded and from whatever negative attributes come with doing what you do for a long time. It keeps that hunger and that urgency, and the people feel it, too. When I come out on stage, I'm approaching them like, 'Yo, I'm back! Let's have a good time!' as opposed to, 'Yeah, you already know who it is...' "

Before "MUSIQINTHEMAGIQ" drops, Musiq will appear as a guest on the track "Yummy, I Got The Munchies" for the new Bootsy Collins album, "Tha Funk Capitol of the World," which comes out April 26.

Game Sued Over Jewelry Bill

Weeks after spending $40,000 on his free mixtape Purp & Patron, rapper Game is being sued for allegedly failing to pay for expensive custom jewelry he commissioned over three years ago. According to TMZ an L.A. judge handed the order down last week demanding Game settle his balance with jewelry company Lemmerman’s Inc. stat.

In the original complaint Game ordered the following list of jewelry pieces from 2007-2008:

- a 14K white gold 36″ chain with white stones for $15,000
- a 14K yellow gold 36″ chain with yellow stones for $15,000
- a diamond stud for $4,000
- a 14K white gold 5-row bracelet for $17,500
- a 14K yellow gold 5-row bracelet for $17,500
- two other gold “pieces” for $30,000

The overdue debt has accrued almost a thousand dollars in interest. There has been no response from Game’s camp at press time.
T.I., MTV Sued Over Dead Body
The relatives of a dead man whose body was filmed in Atlanta by rapper T.I. have sued the artist, complaining that the airing of the corpse on television was disrespectful and done without their consent.

The suit, filed by the family of Joseph Williams, contends that his father, Joseph Williams Sr., and other relatives suffered mental distress after footage of his body was shown in a February 2009 episode of the MTV reality show "T.I's Road to Redemption."

A funeral home employee made a false statement, "stating that the parents didn't know what happened to their son," says the lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday in Fulton County State Court.

The Haugabrooks Funeral Home on Auburn Avenue near downtown Atlanta is listed among the defendants. The company was paid to cremate the body, the suit says. A representative was not immediately available for comment Friday. Neither was T.I., whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr. He is in a federal prison in Arkansas on weapons convictions, with a scheduled release date in September.

The premise of the reality show was to scare youths into leading crime-free lives.

In the first episode, entitled "You Are Responsible For Your Own Actions," Harris shows a young man a corpse at Haugabrooks. A mortician says the man was a "hustler" and says the man's parents don't know how he really died. The face of the dead man is out of focus in the video that was available online at MTV's website Friday.

The lawsuit contends that Harris, the funeral home, MTV and the others involved in the making of the video "carelessly mishandled" the body "for financial gain and publicity." It seeks unspecified damages for mental pain and suffering and emotional distress.

Music Biz:
Trey Songz Sued For Bottoms Up Song

Looks like R&B sensation Trey Songz may end up feeling the wrath of the law. News broke earlier today that the singer and his label Atlantic Records were recently named in an $18 million lawsuit over one of his most popular hit singles "Bottoms Up."

According to AllHipHop.com, Derrick Price, Doc Mob Records and iHip Hop Music are currently suing Songz, his label and producer Kane Beatz over the Nicki Minaj-featured track. Reports indicate that Doc Mob had hired producer Tony Scales to produce the original copyrighted track for his Doc Mob imprint. The track, which was recorded in Derrick Price's home studio, eventually ended up in the hands of producer Kane Beatz, who added elements to the song.

The plaintiffs have stated that although Kane Beatz did contribute to the final version of the song, the original producer Tony Scales was not credited to any capacity with its production on Trey Songz's album Passion, Pain and Pleasure. They also said that Atlantic Records and their artist allegedly ignored a series of cease-and-desist letters that they had sent prior to the suit.

Yet Songz, Kane Beatz and Atlantic Records aren't the only parties mentioned in the suit. The trio of plaitiffs is also suing Trey Songz's manager Gee Robertson and Kodak, who used the song in an advertising campaign featuring the popular singer.
I notice a lot of these lawsuits regarding songs don't happen unless a song is successful. You never hear about someone getting sued over a song you never heard of.

Keri Hilson Working On Third Album

Keri Hilson is wasting no time getting to work on her third album. You can read more about that below as well as stories on The-Dream's new album and Fantasia's latest movie role!

Keri Hilson released her sophomore album No Boys Allowed only a few short months ago, but the wheels are already turning for a follow-up. The sexy singer revealed that she’s about to commence work on her as-yet-untitled third LP, with plans to hit the studio with producer Polow Da Don next month.

“I’m actually recording, going back into the studio in March just to see what happens with Polow Da Don,” Miss Keri exclusively told Rap-Up.com. “I’ve given it some thought, but I’m definitely not going to rush it. I never want to be in that position, so there’s no date or anything. I’m going pretty deep on the second album, anyway.”

The songstress plans to see No Boys Allowed through until the end, with a tour slated for April and hopes of taking Jessie J and Miguel on the road. But with features on her sophomore album including Kanye West, J. Cole, Rick Ross and more, she isn’t counting out big collabos for album number three.

“Bruno Mars and I have talked about it,” she said of her potential duets, name-checking another singer on her wish list. “Cee Lo is one that I would like to have happen.”

The singer-songwriter is currently promoting her latest album, which spawned the singles “Pretty Girl Rock” and “Breaking Point.” For her next single, she’s leaning toward “One Night Stand” featuring Chris Brown, though she hopes that the John Legend-penned “All the Boys” will eventually become a single.

The-Dream To Release New Album
The-Dream might have claimed that last year’s Love King would be his final album, but it ain’t over yet. Last night at the premiere of Justin Bieber’s 3D documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, the singer-songwriter revealed that his fourth album is in the works and should arrive by late summer.

“Everybody’s calling for an album now, so I should have one out by August,” he told Quddus on the purple carpet.

The “Baby” hitmaker is also burning with Bieber fever, sharing that he’s working on the teen idol’s next album alongside Danja, Kevin Cossom, and Kanye West. “We’ve actually been working on the next record, so I’ve been writing, just to get ready,” he said.

And while Biebs has experimented with his sound lately by remixing “Runaway Love” with Kanye and Raekwon, The-Dream plans to continue pushing the envelope. “I can’t give away that,” he teased of the pop star’s new material. “Somewhere between like Fergie and Jesus, somewhere in between there. If I can get away with edgy, I would love it.”
Fantasia To Play Mahalia Jackson In New Film
American Idol alum and erstwhile VH1 reality-show star Fantasia Barrino has added another line to her resume today.

The season three winner is slated to appear in a feature-film adaptation of the 1993 book Got to Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel, which recounts the life of the late American gospel singer, a civil rights activist who was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The CAA-repped Barrino, who's biggest post-Idol gig to date was playing Celie in the Broadway version of The Color Purple, will portray Jackson on her journey from abject poverty in New Orleans to her rise as a global figure in gospel and early supporter of Martin Luther King, Jr. The singer died in 1972 at the age of 60.

The 26-year-old performer also played herself in the 2006 Lifetime biopic Life Is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story, which was based on her 2005 autobiography.
The film will be directed by Euzhan Palcy (A Dry White Season) from a script by Jim Evering, and goes into production in April in Pittsburgh and Chicago for a December release.

Throwback Video: Tamia - Imagination

Tamia won listeners over with her first hit single, "You Put A Move On My Heart" from Quincy Jones' "Q's Jook Joint" album. When it came time to release her self titled debut album in 1998, she hooked up with Jermaine Dupri who produced her first single, "Imagination". It's not particularly a favorite of mine but it gets the job done. Much better was her second single, "So Into You" which was remade by Fabolous & Ashanti and Tamia a few years ago.

I read that Tamia will be releasing a new album sometimes this year. If that is true this will be her first new album in six years. Her last album was 2006's "Between Friends".

Wale Signs To Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group Imprint

There's been a lot of chatter about Wale signing to Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group imprint and the news has finally been confirmed via twitter. Wale is still being managed by Roc Nation. The emcee released his critically acclaimed album, "Attention Deficit" in 2009 and since then has released some critically acclaimed mixtapes as well.

Aretha Franklin has revealed that she is considering Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson to portray her in her biopic. The diva had handpicked Halle Berry who turned the role down saying "she can't sing". I think Halle just wasn't interested in playing Aretha.

Aretha will be honored at this year's Grammy's by Christina Aguilera, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, and Florence Welch.

I read that Ciara might be dropped by Jive Records. I also read that it might not be true so take it with a grain of salt. Then again it wouldn't be shocking given the poor reception of her newest album, "Basic Instinct" and the last, "Fantasy Ride". None of this has been confirmed of denied so we shall see or hear.

Chris Brown Pushes Album Back

UrbanBridgez.com first broke news about Chris Brown‘s new album “F.A.M.E. (Fans Are My Everything)” being released on March 22nd! Now we can confirm that the album is being pushed back a week to March 29th, Sony/BMG confirms exclusively to UrbanBridgez.com! Chris and his team are still selecting songs to be included on the final release as well as the deluxe edition.

The album will feature Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Busta Rhymes, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and more! “F.A.M.E.” is already off to a great start on the Billboard charts with the singles “Yeah 3X,” and “Look At Me Now” featuring Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes. ‘Beautiful People‘ is the new single from the album produced by Benny Benassi. Chris will start the Australian leg of his new tour in April!

Chris teased fans this week by leaking a viral video snippet for one of the songs that will be included on “F.A.M.E,” for the balled “Up to You.” Make sure to catch Chris Brown when he makes his debut on Saturday Night Live along with Russell Brand a week from today on February 12th!

Chris Brown was recently named #1 in our “Top 10 Artists To Watch Out For in 2011!”
http://urbanbridgez.com/ubgblog/2011/02/05/ub-exclusive-chris-browns-f-a-m-e-pushed-back-a-week-to-march-29th/

R&B music and their accompanying albums are good for being pushed back whether its one week or not. Things are so strategic when it comes to releasing R&B albums as it should be. I just feel like the labels need to take that gamble of releasing the album while that hit single is peaking. Don't wait until that single has fallen off the charts and then release the album; your only setting yourselves up for failure.

I think in Chris Brown's case he will be okay cause he has multiple singles out right now and that's a thing I'm seeing a lot too. Personally Chris Brown is becoming a little overexposed to me but that's just my opinion.

Lloyd Pushes Album Back
Lloyd is taking a little longer to lay his album down in stores. The R&B crooner’s latest has been delayed by a month.

King of Hearts, the fourth LP from the New Orleans-born singer, is now set to arrive on April 19, Rap-Up.com has learned. Previously scheduled for a March 22 date, the Zone 4/Interscope release will include the singles “Lay It Down” and 50 Cent-assisted “Let’s Get It In,” along with production by Polow Da Don.

A compilation of remixes to “Lay It Down” will be available at digital retailers on February 15, containing remixes from R. Kelly, Young Jeezy, Patti LaBelle, and B.o.B.

Young Goldie just wrapped his European “King of Hearts” tour and will join Trey Songz on a four-date “Love Faces” trek in the U.S. beginning February 11 in New York City.

Chris Brown To Appear On Saturday Night Live

On February 12, Chris Brown will be the musical guest on NBC's "SNL". Make sure you look out for that! Some people on a message board I was visiting wasn't too happy with Chris being on there for some reason. I don't know why though. I mean Chris is popular again and has a lot of hits right now and that's what "SNL" wants. Can you blame them?

Kelly Price has pushed her new album back a week to April 5. Kelly Price's new album, "Kelly" features the new single, "Not My Daddy" featuring Stokely of Mint Condition. The new album will also featured "Tired" which was nominated for a Grammy! Be on the lookout for the new album!

Bobby V. will release, "Rock Wit'cha" as his next single and third off his new album, "Fly On The Wall" which will be in stores March 22. The song just happens to be a remake of Bobby Brown's song. I haven't heard this yet but unlike Omarion's cover of Jodeci's "Come & Talk To Me", I could bet Bobby V.'s remake of "Rock Wit'cha" is 10 times better.

Even as his latest album, "Passion, Pain & Pleasure," continues to churn out singles -- including the latest, "Love Faces" -- Trey Songz is hatching plans for its successor.

"I want to release an album this year," the Atlanta-based R&B singer tells Billboard.com. "We're starting in the studio now. I'm always thinking about music. I'm in the studio whenever I can be. I'm not pressed or in a rush to make an album right now, but I always have a need to make music."

Songz isn't making any predictions about what kind of direction his fifth studio set will take, however. "No, not right now. I'm feeling very creative, though, so it may be something I've never done before. There's always a certain amount of pressure there, but I like that. With every album, I definitely want to grow my audience as well as myself."

That's certainly been happening with "Passion, Pain & Pleasure," which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in September (No. 1 R&B) and has sold 662,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album also scored a Top 10 hit with "Bottoms Up" as well as an R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart-topper with "Can We Be Friends."

"I think it's definitely been a gradual build to where we are right now," says Songz, whose first album came out in 2005. "I've worked very hard to get where I am...I've been blessed to have a lot of hits within the last two, three years, so I went from being a song you hear on the radio to being an artist you hear on the radio."

Rihanna's S&M Video Banned In 11 Countries

I saw the video and I don't think it's that serious, I mean really I've seen worse things. But whatever. I never really understand what constitutes a network to ban a video anyway. I mean most reasons they list for banning a video are usually pretty stupid anyway. Like when BET banned Ciara's "Ride" video, that was the dumbest thing ever.

It's not like this will hurt Rihanna by any means. This just makes people want to see the video even more. Read more about Rihanna's new racy video as well as stories on Eminem's wedding gift to Elton John and Juelz Santana's bout with drug charges.

She may be bad, but Rihanna's apparently a little too perfectly good at it. The singer's newfound "bad girl" image has recently gotten her into a bit of trouble, as a growing number of countries have banned her racy new video for her song "S&M," and two major media outlets are taking its content into serious consideration.

According to NME.com, the recently released video - which features simulated sex with a blow-up doll and Rihanna leading popular gossip blogger Perez Hilton around on a dog leash - has been banned in 11 different countries. In addition, the UK's BBC Radio 1 refuses to play the song before 7 PM due to its explicit lyrical content.

Yet "S&M" isn't just taking the heat from abroad. YouTube has flagged the video as inappropriate for viewers under the age of 18. MTV was reportedly considering re-editing the video for broadcast, although reps from the network have since gone on the record saying that the rumor was untrue.

Rihanna fired back via Twitter earlier today, saying that the video's content is no more controversial than that in the video to her 2007 single "Umbrella," which featured the singer nude in silver body paint. She has also posted the video in its original form on her website.
Eminem Sends Naughty Gift To Elton John
Sobriety may have forced Eminem to take a closer look at life, but he hasn’t lost his sense of humor. The hip-hop superstar gave his friend Elton John a raunchy gift for his civil union to his partner.

The rock legend, who helped the Detroit rapper beat his drug addiction, had a good laugh after receiving Em’s gift. “He’s got a great sense of humor. When David [Furnish] and I had our civil partnership, he sent us a present,” Elton tells Rolling Stone. “In a case, on velvet cushions, were two diamond cock rings. So there’s a homophobe for you [laughs].”

Sir Elton, who performed with Slim Shady at the 2001 Grammys, says the two share a special relationship and even call each other by naughty names. “We have such a laugh. We call each other cunts. I ask him how he’s doing and tell him how proud I am of him.”

The 63-year-old icon couldn’t be happier for the new and improved Em. “I love him. I don’t see much of Marshall, but we speak a lot. He’s really worked very hard as [sobriety], and it’s changed him so much. I just saw a picture of him in a magazine, and he looks like a 17-year-old boy. I’m so happy for him.”
Juelz Santana To Fight Drug Charges
Fresh off his drug and weapons arrest yesterday afternoon, Juelz Santana is out on bail and already talking about the incident. The Dipset rapper called into Hot 97’s Angie Martinez to clarify his legal situation and proclaim his innocence.

The 28-year-old MC, who was arrested after two fully-loaded 9mm handguns and 17 bags of marijuana were found in his New Jersey studio, confirmed that he was just released on $125,000 bail. “I’m a free man out on bail,” said the Harlemite. “I’m just doing my regular thing, I’m still me. It’s just an unfortunate situation, got caught up.”

Santana explained that there was some janky business on the police’s behalf. “They raided my studio, said things was going on. The charges was just kind of crazy,” he told Angie. “For one, I wasn’t even in my studio when they raided. They raided my studio, they found whatever they want to say they found, and they just put a bunch of charges on me.”

When he turned himself in, he was ready to be freed on bail, but the cops alleged that the snowstorm was to blame for his delayed release. “They had a warrant out for my arrest since last week,” he continued. “I had just turned myself in and I was supposed to be out right there because he had the bail money already on standby for whatever, but once I get in there, they’re like, ‘Oh, the computers is down because of the ice storms and all that.’ I’m like, ‘Wow.’”

Maintaining his innocence, Juelz assured listeners that he wasn’t going to take this lying down. “I’m definitely going to be fighting this, because like I said, they didn’t catch me with nothing. My studio is a place where a bunch of people come in and out. They put me out as selling dime bags of weed. That’s a joke!” he exclaimed. “I wasn’t even there. Never in the case of history would you find Juelz selling no dime bags of marijuana.”
